This is it, the best taco in Pinellas. Everything is fresh and perfect and authentic, any meat you pick is delicious, any way you have it is amazing. Even the chips are great. I can't get enough of this place
Cash only! They barely spea.... Cash only!
They barely speaks English and authentic!!
They make taco tortilla in front of you, and they sell by pound too.
Everything I ate so far is pretty good.
Salsa is yummy!
I recommend to try real Mexican sometime!
Authentic Mexican Food. If you like authentic Mexican food this is the place to go. It is very small with few tables. Not always the cleanest and the employees do speak some English but it is Authentic. You can see them making the tortillas on the grill and the large pots of soup cooking on the stove. We have enjoyed many of the Mexican specialties and dinners. The carne asada tacos are great. If you like authentic this is the place to go.
Decent Authentic Mexican Food, Humble Atmosphere. This is the Mexican hole in the wall kind of restaurant that is sooo hard to find in Tampa. I had the pork (carnitas) tacos and my husband had the chicken tacos. Everything was *reasonably* fresh and as made to order as possible. I found the food was good, not amazing, and the main reason is that the meats were on the dry side and lacking flavor. I have had tacos like these from lunch trucks that one dreams about years later. These were just OK.
The corn tortillas were also a little bland; probably the corn flour they used. The refried beans were just standard; the rice was very good.
I'm nit-picking because I had high expectations from other reviews. Over all, I am glad to have found this place.
The bathroom could use a lot of help but like I said this is a hole in the wall and the patrons were diverse and friendly.
CASH ONLY! Really authentic, delicious food. Tiny place, not the most attractive but food is totally worth it! Must go.
Fantastic Tacos and More. La Cabana del Tio is as much take-out as dine-in. Only about 15-20 people can eat in the tiny dining room. Much of the business is a steady stream of people coming in to take home the delicious tacos produced by three busy people in the little kitchen.
Counter service is friendly, but it helps a lot to speak some Spanish. Prices are very reasonable.
We tried several different tacos and all were wonderful. This is one of the only places where fresh corn tortillas are made on premises. Here you can watch the process. The bistec with onions “special of the day” (from a list of several that doesn’t change) was also very good.
Authentic for sure.. lucky the employee spoke ingles. Saw this place had high ratings for mexican. it's a hole in the wall. not really a sit down restaurant at all. not a huge menu.. they didn't even have burritos or enchiladas. I ordered "quesadillas" which pretty much was a soft taco in my american book. needless to say they tasted real good! I think I was the only one that spoke english.. the bathroom scared me and they only take cash. kinda expensive for a little tiny place too. overall good.. will go back
As others have pointed out this is one of the most authentic Mexican cafes in Clearwater. Modest place but you get to watch them make masa tortillas and cook while you enjoy some awesome tacos Mexican style. Try the tacos al pastor with cilantro, lime and the red sauce.
Tastiest, most authentic tacos in the Clearwater area. Somehow, for reasons I can't comprehend, every route I drive in the Clearwater area takes me down Drew Street.
Ok, who am I kidding....I'm flat out addicted to La Cabana del Tio. If I lived nearby, I'd be here 2-3 times a day. Flat out the best tacos I've found in the Clearwater area. Just the idea of grabbing a couple of tacos carnitas slathered in LCdT's fresh-made salsa is enough to make my knees weak. Seriously folks, I've got it bad. I've eaten here about 2 times a week over the last few months.
I found LCdT by researching every single taqueria around town, and tried them all over a two month period. I thought my search was complete until I somehow stumbled on some excellent reviews for LCdT. They were all right. From the fresh-made tortillas made in front of your eyes by the smiling women, then slapped on the grill to cook, to the huge pots of meat on the stoves, to the fresh chopped cilantro, the lime wedges to squeeze over it all, then covered in LCdT's killer salsa, it's all taco heaven.
The taqueria is in a very small storefront, practically hidden by the laundromat next door. If you blink you might miss it, and I had to turn around several times to find it, and I'm glad I didn't give up. There are about 3 simple booths for 4 diners, and one both for 2. Also a few counter stools if you want to sit close and watch the cooks work. The dining area has always been neat and clean. Also, most every time I've been there it's been quite warm inside. Perhaps they don't run A/C because the exhaust fans over the stove remove so much air out, so much so that the vacuum makes the front door hard to open. Service at the counter and food delivery is usually prompt, depending on the crowds, as everything is made fresh to order.
The tacos are $2, just a bit more than most taquerias around town, but the quality makes them an outstanding value. Side orders of beans and rice will set you back about $5, but they cover a huge platter, and could easily be split by 2-3 people. Caution: They're so good you won't want to share. The beans have tons of fresh flavor, and are seasoned well. I've had 4-5 of the different taco fillings, but the carnitas have become my favorite. But there are enough choices to keep life interesting....in fact the chicken is quite good. The menu has a number of other dishes on it, but I haven't gotten past the tacos yet....hopefully someday I'll get around to checking the rest of the flavors.

In my opinion, between Senor Taco in Pinellas Park and La Cabana del Tio, you can eat the best Mexican on this side of the bay. There's no better, authentic fare to be found in the area, in my opinion. And as good as Taco Bus (the taqueria that seems to get the most attention around Tampa) across the bay can be, I'd choose LCdT hands down, every day.
Best Mexican Food in Clearwater!!!. I admit that my boyfriend and I were hesitant to try any more Mexican food in Clearwater because it's usually just a let-down (i.e. Los Mayas, Carmelitas, etc.) and let me say that this place DID NOT DISAPPOINT! We ordered the salsa and chips, guacamole, Gorditas w/ bistec y cactus, and Pork Carnitas Tacos and Bistec y Cactus Tacos. Wow.....the tacos were authentically served with just cilantro and lime, with their house hot salsa served on the side. The meat was tender and very flavorful. The corn tortillas are made fresh right in front of your face. The guacamole was absolutely heavenly; the flavors of fresh lime, cilantro, garlic and onion (no sour cream or tomato fillers in this one, dude.) pureed into a super creamy consistency that was the perfect pairing to the fresh fried tortilla chips that accompanied it. The Gorditas were unbelievable...crunchy heaven topped with house refried beans, meat of your choice (the bistec y cactus was just amazing) and white Mexican cheese. The place is not really much to look at, however, the atmosphere is not why you'd come here. Don't let that deter you from your enjoyment, though. It's clean and that's all that really matters. The people working there do not know much English but were friendly, kind, and got the food to us fast. Excellent place and I will definitely be making this one of my frequent stops when I want true Mexican food. Loved, loved, loved it.
Awesome, authentic. Get the homemade chips and guacamole for appetizers. Bring cash.
House special quesadillas. This place is awesome. We live close by and eat here all the time. the tortillas are great, all of the food is fresh and super authentic.
They are very good!!!!!!!!!!
Great place to stop and get some great tacos. It's a very unassuming location but prices are reasonable and the food is always hot, fresh and delicious! Good variety for everyone to find something, and they have a drink case to choose different sodas or teas from. Delicious food and has brought me back for years now!
I've been going here for tacos for over 15 years. I can't even begin to say enough good things about the food here. Amaze-balls! I think they are cash only, so be ready for that. The picture is the tacos Americanos. 3 is enough and worth every penny. :)
Food was prepared quick! Their steak tacos are soo good, they were juicy and flavorful. It was delicioso!! 🔥🔥🌮🔥🔥
Looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant?
This is one good one, excellent tacos and tostadas, my carne azada con nopales, rice and beans was a complete meal!
Fare prices and abundant food!
You may order to go too!
I’ve been getting the chicken tacos here for 16 years. Best hot sauce in the entire world and fresh tortillas that they make in front of you.
Some of the best food in the area. While it may be super busy at times, it's worth the wait and I love coming here to eat. Take it from this Mexican, it's amazing and a must try for anyone.
Stopped here while in the area headed to the airport, they were open super early. Got fresh, hot tacos and some kind of pastry with beans and cheese. Noticed a lot of locals going in also.
Favorite authentic taco place around Clearwater area. Homemade tortillas, hot sauce is great and I always get the steak tacos! Amazing.
