A really nice & peaceful place & fun atmosphere. I was by myself & felt completely comfortable. Friendly staff & Brittany, my waitress, was attentive & so nice. The food was absolutely wonderful & homemade! Try the Bavarian pretzels, pot roast, potato pancakes & bread pudding. Prices are reasonably good. It had been awhile since I was there & it was a pleasure to come back & will come again very soon!
West Park is a very old neighborhood. Genes Place , formerly known as Perkins Pancake House could have been called The Meeting House. Growing up there was as close to heaven as you can get here on earth. I visit family and friends twice a year. We meet at Genes Place. Friendly service, delicious food, and ambience. The the wall of fame theme is continued even in the menu...I'll have a Jack Benny please. I hope it never closes. Such good memories I have.

Amazing atmosphere, excellent food, awesome waitress, Laurie.... if we weren't just visiting Cleveland, we WOULD be regulars! We always try and find locally owned restaurants in towns we visit, and we've had many adventures, but this place stands out and is our new favorite!!! Thank you Gene's for filling our bellies and souls with fantastic food and unforgettable experience!

Passing through Cleveland from New York - this place felt just like home. Found Gene's on Yelp and was excited to try it based on the good reviews. So far we've been twice to Gene's and we haven't been disappointed. I ordered the skillet breakfast the first day and loved the eggs over easy and potatoes. My husband ordered the corn beef hash and eggs meal, where the eggs were perfectly cooked and nice and hot. Coffee was hot and a medium strength, not too weak and not too strong. The staff was always around for a refill on coffee and the food came out quickly and hot! Second visit my husband had an omelette with green peppers, potatoes and cheddar cheese. The omelette was fluffy and a nice bright yellow and he got a side of pancakes that came with almost every meal. The pancakes were fluffy, on the thin side, but still nice and filling. Definitely would get an order of pancakes next time we are in Cleveland. My husband and I wanted to leave this review because it's rare for us to find a place we would return to in a city we've never lived in. We will definitely be back Cleveland. Thanks for the awesome meals!

Fantastic place! I usually visit for breakfast and it's always great, the French toasts are absolutely amazing, made with French bread. Very friendly staff and speedy service with good prices! Nick is the best waiter ever!
Food was good, had a chicken salad and muffin, service was also good!

Delicious! Breakfast is great, pot roast is insanely tender and flavorful. Never had a bad meal here and the atmosphere is a classic friendly diner type. Nicest waitresses in the world. But if you're not a fan of inexpensive diner food/home cooking style food, this is not the place for you. Try Pier W (also delicious but totally different class of dining)

Today, I want to share with you the other diner experience that we recently had in the West Park neighborhood of Cleveland. A Sunday morning brought us to Gene's Place to Dine . Upon entering, we were greeted by two things...this guy... ...and popcorn. Genius. I was loving it already. Another very large place, so we had no wait and plenty of different dining spaces to choose from. We were directed to the back left room, and it was a really funky space with plenty to look at. I don't really stray too much from my classic diner plate of eggs, toast, and bacon...but every once in a while, I have a craving for French Toast. That usually happens when I see the words "Texas Toast" or "thick-cut" on the menu. Gene's listed it as thick-cut, so I had to go for it. With two eggs ( cooked your way ) and a side of meat ( bacon, for me ), this plate of food hit the spot. No complaints here. Also, I loved our server's Gene's t-shirt. It said something like "You have to eat anyway, and we could use the money." We got a good chuckle out of that one. Gene's, I'd visit again! I've only ever had breakfasts at Gene's Place, but it's always delicious and the prices are great. The service is top notch with friendly and fast staff. Menu selection is big so there is something to please everyone. Consistently delicious!

Gene's Place to Dine was such a cute simple diner we stopped at for Breakfast on Rocky River Drive in Cleveland Ohio. It is located on the corner of a plaza, and it does not look big... until you are inside there is a good amount of room! Very homey feeling. The staff was very kind, the food was good. I got Steak & Eggs with Pancakes on the side. We also order the Corn Beef and Hash. That was very good too! Pricing was very good too.

This place provides an atmosphere of pure nostalgia. The only recurrent them is "old". It was pretty neat seeing old magazine covers and prices of items during that Era.
The service was amazing. I've never had someone check on us so much and if you actually needed something, he had it for you right away.
I ordered French Toast and bacon. The bacon was good and perfectly crisp. Listen...it's nothing to write home about but solid! The French Toast was bland. All I tasted was the egg they threw on top of it. Seriously, that's all I tasted. No butter or cinnamon sugar...nothing but egg. I ate the bacon instantly so it's not in the pic 🤦🏽♀️
Tried the Gene Kelly option of their sandwich list, and it was terrific!! Also loved the Old Hollywood theme, and the customer service. You will feel at home.
AMAZING FOOD & SERVICE, Laurie was one of the best servers I've ever had!!! The pancakes were delicious, the French was PERFECT, the bacon was cooked literally to perfection. When I'm in Cleveland again I'll definitely coming back!!
It's everything people say it is. Don't miss out on the pancakes. The omelettes are fantastic. They use really good cheddar cheese. I wish it was a little closer but worth the drive.

This was our first time at this restaurant and we had such a wonderful time. Kathy was our waitress and she was so kind and welcoming to both of us. Great spot. Dropped some family off at the airport and looked for a place somewhat nearby to get breakfast. Good atmosphere, food, and people.
I've been going to Gene's Place my entire life and I've never had anything but 5 Star service! Any time of the day you go there will always be great service and even better food. My personal favorite has to be the strawberry crepes with a side of home fries, but their lunch and dinner menu foods are just as great! Would definitely recommend this to other people as a great local restaurant in West Park.
Burger was good, fries were pretty good, my waiter was very kind. I love the old school stuff on the walls and the old school music that plays. Also, it isn't very loud like many restaurants are, which is amazing. 5/5 stars from me.
I just love the environment of this place and the service is amazing. They are so friendly. They guy server (sorry forgot the name) he is amazing. The food is always on point. You need to try the French toasts they are amazing.
It is a wonderful throwback restaurant .I personally go with the porky pig and pancakes ,has been a solid place for breakfast for the past 25 years for my family. Just a FYI it can get a little pricey but unfortunately that is a sign of the times.
The food is as good as home made and consistent. Most of the waiting staf is friendly. The woman at the old woman at the register is always there, and she never smiles and makes it her personal mission to be grumpy. Maybe she is in chronic pain. Her sour attitude is the only negative part of the Gene's Place experience. I've been eating there for over 30 years.

Today my waitress Margie tossed my salad and roll at me. Notice my tipped butter and roll barely staying on the table. My side of dressing spilled into the salad. But she gave service with "smile".
Our daughter took us there for breakfast. The corned beef hash was delicious. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Also, it is way bigger inside than you would think.
We stopped here for a late breakfast while in the city and we loved it! Such a homey comfortable vibe, and the food was delicious
