Never judge a book by its cover!! Everything made to order. The owner is very nice!
Simple cheap and very good Thia food!!
We got all our favorites: Thai iced tea, pad see ew and Tom kha gai. Everything was amazing, better than any we've had elsewhere in years! Great prices, too.
I love eating here. I only come once in a while but it's never a disappointment. The chicken curry is delicious and the pad Thai is amazing!
LOVE THIS PLACE!. OK...Since my little brother shared his spicy beef salad with me I have been addicted! I'm a "Med. Pace Picante" sauce kind of girl, so the spicy beef salad my brother ordered was HOT for me, I couldn't get enough! Ever since my introduction to Thai Gem, I have sampled other menu items and have not been disappointed. You can order the spice level you desire, and Wit (the owner) is very helpful. I tried the beef Laab with sticy rice and it is great! I've been sampling Laab all over town and can say that although other places are good, they aren't AS good as Thai Gem.
AMAZING!. We went there last night, it was delicious and the owner explained their cuisine while we waited for their made to order dishes. All four of us ordered different dishes and they were all very tasty. We will definitely be going back very soon!
Good Thai Food. Well having been to this restaurant 3 times I think it is safe to say that I haven't been disappointed. The owner does talk to you and is very proud and open to any questions you may have. If you have children that are open to different types of food then bring them along as well. They have excellent soups for the coming colder months.
Must go. If you are looking for delicious and authentic Thai Food, this is your place. The prices are reasonable and the food is fresh. The owner is personable and was our server. Just don't use a Restaurant.com coupon - he was very upset over his misunderstanding with them and went on and on about it to us.
Went there for the first time 3/6/10. The man working and taking orders was very nice.
The food was fantastic. I had the Pad Thai Combo & My wife had Broccoli beef. While hers was good. Mine was great. We're definitely going back and taking friends next weekend.
Glad we found it
We found this place from urbanspoon. The owner was funny. He pulled up urbanspoon on his computer to show us his ratings. He went on and on about his great food, great prices, and how the top two Thai places are owned by Thais, but the others are owned by Hmong, Lao, etc. Fortunately some other ppl showed up and he was able to spread his hospitality around a little more. Pad Thai was good, green curry was average, homemade peanut sauce was excellent. I never did get my hot oil despite several requests. We'll go back.
Best Thai food in town. We live an hour away and come here for the pad Thai! And the owner always is a great conversationalist! Went to his place on Ashlan and am so happy he moved to Clovis! Best Thai food around!
Excellent pad thai. Definitely worth the drive
Simply one of the best Thai restaurants anywhere. Wit and his wife (the head chef) have taken Thai cusine to a whole new level at this location. This is authentic Thai food, not Laotian or Veitnamese pretending to be Thai. Prices are incredibly low for this quality of food.
Awesome Thai food in Clovis! Fresh food and friendly service. Very affordable too!
Very good and very fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant if you like authentic Thai food!
Thai Gem- Clovis, CA. Wow. First time I ate here. July 31, 2009. I ended up choosing the Orange Chicken. My preference is that the food is steaming hot when it comes and he delivered. That way I know my food is staying hot until it's gone. I recommend trying Thai Gem. My brother had the owner pick something and be creative. I think he had a mixture of Japanese Green Beans? and Chicken. Looked delicious. My cousin had a Curry soup? All in all a quiet and quaint establishment that I highly recommend. You won't be disappointed...

THE BEST THAI for 25++ years now. We have eaten at Wits Thai food when he was on Ashlan and now in Clovis for over 25 years. (Back in the early days he had the best fish and chips before he went THAI) I have eaten over 100 times over the years. I love the PANANG CHICKEN on a sizzling iron plate, the house fried rice with chicken, the red and green curry chicken, and the best BEEF SALAD ever made. His food is the authentic Thai food. Quality ingredients made to order. My wife gets the red curry chicken every time we go. Wit is the perfect host. Try this place now and tell Wit George told you about it...it wont get you anything but the best Thai food in Fresno County.
Thai one on! Amazing FRESH Thai food!. My Wife and I literally stumbled across this restaurant in Clovis (next to Fresno) while heading to Olive Garden, and of course, we skipped OG to try it, and are VERY glad we did! This little restaurant is owned by Native Thai's that stick to real Thai or traditional Thai food, as they know it, and of course, being from Thailand, you know you are getting "the real McCoy"! (some "Thai" Restaurants are not owned or operated by folks from Thailand!)
We had the pleasure of meeting the owner himself, and learned quite a bit about the authentic Thai ways of some dishes, and also his little added touches. The owner, whose name is "Wit", really is serious about FRESH food! My wife is a Vegetarian, and asked for some specific food, and Wit had no problem letting her know, that they can prepare any Vegetarian dish she would like based on food from the menu!
We were very pleased with the restaurant overall, but the food will really surprise you at just how good real, fresh, Thai food can be! :)
We had dinner, drinks, and appetizer for $37! I also want to note, the tempura vegetable appetizer we had was very good, not greasy tasting like I wind up making at home, not sure what the secret is :(
If you want a cool local restaurant, are in the mood for Thai Food, and want the freshest, not to mention best value, in Thai food, this place is for you! You will love the friendly owner, he's a blast, and loves people! :)
We can't wait to go back with our friends and family! :)
A great restaurant. I had the mango salad with some steamed rice. It was tasty and healthy and a great meal.
The Thai Gem is a Fresno treasure. As a Fresno State professor, I have lunch here often. The food is always 100% fresh, creatively prepared and delicately spiced. Most important, it is always delicious. The atmosphere is casual and extremely friendly. It seems like 3/4 of the patrons address the waiter/co-owner by name. It is also very reasonably priced. The best.
Great (cheap) Thai Food. Thai Gem is one the best deals in town. Cheap entrees and pretty decent food. In terms of overall quality, I actually prefer Aroy Thai in northern Clovis or Sweet Ginger in northwest Fresno. If I were eating with friends I'd probably take them to one of those places. I think the curry's more flavorful at those places but you'll also end up paying more. But then again, I only get Panang when I eat at Thai restaurants, so I can't speak for the quality of the pad thai here. The panang here is still pretty good.
But for cheap take-out you can't beat Thai Gem.
Thai Gem and my friend Wit. I have followed my friend Wit to two different locations for Thai food. He's definately worth following for Thai food. I wish him the best of success at his present location on the Southeast corner of Willow and Shaw. The three flavor fish is to die for. The prawns in clay pot are delicious and good for people who would rather have their Thai food not so spicy. If you like you Thai food spicy the basil chicken is great. Thai Gem is one of my favorite restaurants. Milton
Thai Gem. THE best Thai food in Fresno/Clovis!! My favorite dishes include: panang beef, cashew pork, spicy chicken w/ peanut in hot pan, coconut chicken soup, and most of all... peanut sauce made right, from peanuts and spices, NOT peanut butter.
Amazing place.. Family style. Tasty. Authentic. Solid eats. Never get stomachache. Vegetable Pad Thai only so the flavor of the pad thai such as tamarind and fish sauce shine, papaya salad, bbq beef salad, peanut sauce, mango sticky rice... The best combinations of all time without breaking your budget.
Update: years later and they still have the food quality and taste expected and depends on. It explains how this place gather many "regulars" who know the menu in their memories and know the owner by stories.
Depends on the time, rarely, they get overwhelm and service may seems slow, however, it doesn't affect the food taste. They always say: "good things come to those who wait" so just sit back, catch up with your love ones, take some deep breaths because the food will be enjoyable when it comes.
Years later, the quality of food still there, amazing place, wonderful people.
Thai Gem is an awesome restaurant! Superbly cooked food, awesome complexity of flavors, fresh ingredients, awesome atmosphere. Thai Gem is extremely good. Highly recommended!
I love this place. Not only is it authentic, it’s actually REALLY GOOD. The BEST mango sticky rice I’ve ever had!! And the customer service is top notch, they’re so kind :)
My first visit to the Thai Gem was a very pleasant experience. I was warmly greeted by the owner who informed me of the 35yr. family business. Within that time span no one has ever caught food poisoning due to every meal being freshly made and prepared for your satisfaction.
As for me, I ordered Chicken Pad Thai and Soup Coconut Milk which was absolutely delicious (hot & fresh). Without hesitation I highly recommend the homestyle restaurant, Thai Gem.
The food here is amazing, the restaurant is clean and the staff was freindly. It doesn't look like much from the outside and its fairly simple inside but, the food is freshly made and delicious. The prices are ok, but its no wonder why this place has been here for 16 years now.
