Delightful. Knowledgable and enthusiastic staff, great food, and enjoyable atmosphere. Couldn't have asked for a better date spot.
Took Too Long to Find. How have I missed this for however many years I've lived here? I guess b/c I am cheap, and this place certainly isn't. But, somebody else was paying tonight so I took advantage.
Nice atmosphere but a bit loud. Attentive waiter. The mussels and fried oysters were good, but I'm just not a big fan of those in general. I had the soup du jour which was a light vegetable soup with pesto. Excellent flavor, but served a bit less than hot. I'd order it again certainly (by the way, all comments are assuming someone else is paying).
The salmon on a bed of mushroom-risotto was amongst the best tasting pieces of fish I have ever had, a true delight to the palate, and a large filet which is sometimes sadly overlooked at some fancy places. Unfortunately, the waiter recommended medium-rare, which was just a little too undercooked for my tastebuds for salmon (for tuna it would have been perfect). My wife's shrimp and grits were definitely in the top 2 that we've ever had, thanks partly to the creative addition of goat cheese lumps. I probably will have a craving for those soon.
I'm told by those who had either the tuna special or the filet mignon that they were both excellent as well. The spicy sausage soup was very good, but less spicy than expected. Overall, we enjoyed the meal greatly and once we've saved up the dough, will go back promptly.
5-19 update: went back and glad I did. Swordfish was very good with a corn-peach salsa, but the lemon-spinach risotto was spectacular, definitely the best risotto I've ever had the pleasure of tasting.
Delightful! Lovely atmosphere, delicious dishes, EXTENSIVE wine selection in all price ranges - would definitely recommend for a special night out
I enjoyed the wine and atmosphere. The seats were uncomfortable and I'd say the food was mediocre. I had the lamb while my wife had the filet. Neither were exciting.
Always good. This is a rock solid restaurant with a great fairly priced wine list. They also serve wine at the proper temperature which is a big deal. I have eaten here five or ten times over the past 5 years and I have never been disappointed. If you are local or from out of town this place delivers. If you are staying at Marriott then you would be crazy to go anywhere else. I am picky as heck so for me to even write a review let alone a good one you can believe it. One of if not the best restaurants in Columbia.
Outstanding!. My wife had dinner here with her friends several years ago, but it was my first time. We decided we wanted something different from our usual (French cuisine on Gervais or Greene...) for our anniversary. The restaurant is in a great old building across the street from the Marriott, and for downtown parking is pretty good, a parking garage is half a block away. Some reviews have remarked on noise, but we came early and found it quiet and conducive to easy conversation. Our server, Monica, was eager to please and, although new, was generally knowledgeable. Her wine recommendations were very good. We had the Barbera to start, and the Cab for the entree--both were delicious.
The starter bread was average, the pepper in the olive oil could have used a bit more bite. Our salads (Mixed Greens and Caesar) were very good, the Caesar had just the right touch of anchovy. We saw someone with the roasted beet salad, which looked yummy, but decided to save room. My wife's beef filet was excellent, I almost wished I had chosen that entree, but my lamb shank was very good and filling. We finished with the Chocolate Caramel Cake, again excellent.
Overall the experience was outstanding, we will definitely come again. My wife said she felt like all the staff really cared that she had a good time.
Fine job. Visited HSV with wife for date night. Everything was excellent. Both ordered filet and ceaser salad and they wre both great. Service was good although waiter was sat 3 tables at same time, little slow getting started but otherwise she did fine job. Once again good service, good food is all I ask for. Keep up good work
Wonderful!. My boyfriend and I just came back from dinner and we both agree that it was fantastic. I love the setting & atmosphere, the service was great, and the food was absolutely wonderful. The server (Stephen) was very friendly, funny, and efficient. The boyfriend had the flatiron (amazing) and I had the salmon (also great). We can't wait to come back.
This was an excellent choice. Cozy little dining room. The scallops were done perfectly. Very attentive wait staff. Would highly recommend.
Great wine selection. Foie Gras was amazing. Lamb shank... Spectacular. Far and away the best restaurant in Columbia.
Worth it!. Another great restaurant in Columbia - extensive wine list, helpful wait staff, and savory food. Also a great sit outside.
Great food the wine list is extensive. Have lived in Columbia many years, this is a jem.
Great place. Hampton Street Vineyard has been a local Columbia favorite for years now.
Interesting place (1/2 underground), great area to sit outside, always good service, and a ever changing menu make this a must-try.
Very Good Food - Outside Dining a Plus!. My husband and I ate here yesterday with his band while we were in Columbia. It was a beautiful early evening so we opted to eat outside. Tables were so-so (wrought iron patio style) but the host was quick to pull two together, adjust umbrellas, whatever it took to make us happy. Bread was served with olive oil and spices for dipping (bread was okay). We started with the goat cheese salad - it was also just okay with not quite enough goat cheese, mesclun greens with a port vinaigrette, red onions and a few slivers of pear. A little overdressed, the greens were a bit soggy. Our main course was very tasty however - the filet was perfectly cooked and accompanied by some garlic whipped potatos and a very nice broiled cauliflower. Other diners had the chicken breast stuffed with brie and spinach (very nice) and the pork tenderloin, which was enormous, and apparently also very good from the way it disappeared. Wine list was quite good, it would have been nice to have a cocktail list for some of our ladies who desired a martini! Our waiter was excellent. Eating outside definitely enhanced the experience, so if you have a chance, go for the sidewalk!
