This place is the bomb. The staff is super friendly. I ate here multiple times during my trip.
This was our first time coming here. We drove over 2 hours to try the food here. It was extremely busy when, we arrived. We placed our order and was advised we had to wait about an hour or so for the fufu to be prepared for the meals ordered. We left and came back at the given time. They gave us our food and drinks ordered. There is not any indoor seating at this time due to covid-19.
My favorites out everything ordered is the Red-Red and the Red Snapper. I would highly recommend trying those. They have alot of food to try. When, we come back this way. I will definitely call my order in ahead of time.
I just found my best African restaurant in the US so far. Though the pleasant couple who owns this place are Ghanian origin, their Nigerian dishes are so perfect, I haven't seen any better Nigerian dishes in the US. Give the place a try and I can assure you, you won't regret it!!
I had the pleasure of having a late lunch with friends at Asanka Kitchen this afternoon.
We were greeted with a loving smile and warm heart. The atmosphere with full of life and color. The farmstyle tables make it easy to dine family style.
The food is absolutely amazing! The open kitchen design makes you feel like your walking into grandma's kitchen for a plate.
If you can't decide on what to eat, no worries: samples (tasters) and conversation are free.
The meals are more than enough to share or even take home for later.
Very reasonable and you pay at the end of the meal, no rush.
This is a must for anyone that want to experience great African food for the first time or make it your regular spot to enjoy family and make new friends.
I will be back!
***I enjoyed the food and conversation so much, I forgot to take a picture***
This was, hands down, one of the best restaurant experiences I have ever had. As soon as you walk through the door they give you a warm welcome that makes you feel like family. New comers will appreciate the special ritual that takes place when you visit the first time. (Please visit to find out more ;)...you'll be happy you did!) Everything was well seasoned and tasty. The staff treat you like honored guests and I really appreciate the effort they put into making their customers feel happy. If you have not been to this place yet...Please try it!! You will not regret it.
Asanka Kichen is named from the Ghanaian traditional restaurant. All the dishes are full of flavor from the Egusi Soup to Red Red. We had the pleasure of being served by Elizabeth, the owner. Her personality was so infectious. Elizabeth took the time to explain the all of the dishes they offered and in addition, gave samples. We decided to have plantain fufu with Egusi soup and Jollof Rice with fried fish. The Jollof Rice was the center piece of the meal and we devoured the fufu and Egusi soup. The Jollof Rice was so good I had to get some to go, I also ordered the Sobolo juice (hibiscus leaves, pineapple, and ginger). There was a good mixture of the ingredients and not too sweet.
The dining area gives homage to other African countries in a simplistic and colorful manner. It was very friendly, clean and inviting. There are bench tables communal meals if you have a large group.
If we visit or pass through Columbia again, make this your first stop. Thanks again for the family friendly hospitality and great food
It was our first time eating West African cuisine and we absolutely enjoyed it. It is an excellent establishment with very courteous service, good vibe music and an overall great experience with their "Ritual" of food tasting. Wish we weren't leaving the area soon, so we can frequent this hidden gem more often!
We saw all the great reviews and had to try it. We were so impressed that we were given the chance to try 6 or 7 things before we ordered (since it was our first time). We loved everything! I especially loved the goat stew, plus the light soup, peanut soup, spinach stew, tomato stew, akara, the puff puff (like a donut) and we also tried the sobolo (drink) and ginger juice (wow). We simply loved all of it! After trying ALL of that, I ordered the whole mackerel and my husband got the fried chicken. Both came with the tomato stew on rice. We enjoyed both and, although completely stuffed, ordered the grilled pineapple and vanilla ice cream. There was someone playing African music which made it a fun atmosphere. The owners, Elizabeth and Samuel Darko, were incredibly nice and helpful. We're just sorry it took us a year to discover Asanka. We look forward to returning again and again!
