Yes, there's The Stretch and yes, you ate there a lot, often under the influence, in college. But while they cover their diner bases with top-notch pancakes, donuts, burgers and shakes, The Broadway Diner is sneaky good as a legit, adult restaurant too. They probably have the best lineup of sandwiches in town - especially the Coop and the Plucky Ducc. The lunch specials will surprise you. They serve local eggs upon request (but at no additional cost). The place, of course, is chock full of personality.

We loved the Broadway diner! Passing through from Kansas to St Louis, we were excited to find this place for lunch. Between the three of us, we had the cheeseburger, chocolate shake, beef and cheddar ... all were delicious! Old school style , great service, quaint , cozy and packed! Awesome!

Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. Not one bad thing on the menu but my favorite like most people is the world famous Stretch! Gordo of course.

The brisket sandwich with mac n cheese was DELICIOUS. The atmosphere is inviting, super cute 50's diner with the sweetest old lady who takes your order. I loved it!!

I asked Google for a 24 hour diner and picked the one lone entry that wasn't a chain. OMG... The Plucky Ducc (grilled chicken philly with bacon jam), wet fries with cheddar, and the blueberry custard pie. All with a healthy tip for less than $20?!?!?! Now I see why the place was half full with college kids at 10:30pm - cheap and extremely good!

Aside from a lack of space, this is one of Columbia's best kept secrets! The low prices are typical of a college-town diner, but the food is made-to-order and quite excellent. The loaded hash browns are the best thing here by far, and the flapjacks are melt-in-your-mouth soft. If you need a breakfast fix before a Mizzou football game, this is your place!

This place is a Columbia landmark. Locals don't eat at IHOP, they eat here. It's been owned and run by the same local family since 1989. Consistently good hardy breakfast.

If you ever drunkenly stumble into this temple of culinary wonder be sure to order the bacon cheeseburger with an egg on top. It will literally change your life. The fries? Also to die for, add some ranch and you're set. Service is quick and very friendly, cheap food definitely worth the price. Be sure to tip well!

S-T-R-E-T-C-H. The Stretch. What more is there? I remember before they moved, when I was in college and after the bars closed, heading for this place. You had better get there early or yo will not find a seat. It is a Diner. So you will get friendly with your neighbor. The food is always good, the staff friendly and it has that atmosphere for making memories. A good friend I hadn't seen in 30 years came through town and I took him there and I remember sitting there talking, drinking coffee and each having a Stretch. But like I said-go early or on an off time or you won't find a seat. Either wait or come back. The Stretch is worth it!

This is certainly a real diner. Order a "Stretch" it's layered - hashbrowns, eggs, chili, shredded cheese, onions, and peppers. Pour on the ketchup and hot sauce and go to town!

Healthy Alternatives. I like them, because unlike most diners, they offer turkey sausage which is a lot healthier than regular ones.

This is the perfect American diner. There is one big, visible flattop grill churning out breakfast and lunch simultaneously while creating heavenly smells. You can watch the cook at work, and the skill is evident. The service is friendly and attentive. Everything down to the tiny details of the decor, the tables, the bar and stools, the milkshake machine, the little jelly packets, and the hot silver syrup container brought to each customer is perfect and deeply authentic. Tabasco and Frank's Red hot sauce grace every table in large bottles. The meat and eggs are sourced from local farms, in a miraculously unpretentious and affordable way, and you can taste the quality in the bacon and eggs. The biscuits and gravy are good too, a rarity from any restaurant anywhere. Good ingredients are prepared simply and humbly at this magical place, which also serves homemade pies and gooey butter cake. Only a fool wouldn't buy some pie before leaving here. This place deserves a Michelin star and landmark status. It is a rare beast in a time when Americans descend in politically divided droves upon satanic corporate facades like Cracker Barrel and Texas Roadhouse, and unwelcoming bourgeois hipster vegan avocado bruncheries selling "okay colonizer" stickers for 5 bucks a pop. If there is a line, just wait in it. Trust me. Relax and enjoy a true experience in the kind of place you worry might be vanishing from this world. Order too much food and eat yourself sick, and then eat some pie too. Bring your real friends and loved ones here. Be kind America. There is hope for us yet.

I ate something that was really tasty and that was a combination of ingredients that I have never seen before. I am a 71 year old Chef who loves unique food so that right there was a very pleasant surprise. Plus the service was diner perfect.

A staple of the Columbia dining scene. No matter the hour, it's reliable and the food is so dang good! Not to mention, the owner gives way more than he receives. FREE daily meals given out to those from our community in need, regular fundraisers for charity and an encouraging word from their social media each and every day. You'll feel good about the great meal you receive, but even better knowing you're supporting a place that pays it forward to all. Don't miss this place!
