Ok. So I love BBQ. I have gone to some iconic places known for BBQ in Kansas City. Including the likes of Joe's BBQ, Jack Stacks, Arthur Bryant's, and Q39. I have also eaten at some lesser know but well regarded BBQ places in Jefferson City like Sweet Smoke and Lutz's. Suffice it to say I was eager to try something different so my girlfriend and I went to Buckinghams.
The decor was nice with lots of large natural wood booths. The staff was very friendly and the smell of Barbecued pork lingered in the air upon entering. The whole thing presented a kind of mouthwatering setup for our hungry pallette's. I felt we were in for the special BBQ treat.
We ordered the BBQ Nachos to start. I would describe the Nachos as pulled BBQ with baked beans, jalapeños and what I think was queso cheese. The BBQ was sweet and when combined with the sweet baked beans and starchy nacho chips it left and overall underwhelming flavor that needed to be balanced out with a spice or something tangy. Luckily the jalapeños and the home made salsa?? And( Whatever it was it was a flavorful higlight) provided the needed punch.
For the main course I ordered the 1/2 stack of Baby Back Ribs, with sweet potato fries and baked beans. My girlfriend ordered the BBQ salad (a risky choice but she went for it anyway because of a previous experience). My order came with a roll and pickles. Upon receiving the food we sampled it with the two sauces provided on the table "mild" and "spicy". The ribs had the similar sweet taste that the Nachos had but I'm sad to say that they lacked real flavor and they were served warm. Pouring the two sauces on them didn't help elevate the flavor. I was disappointed but my partner liked them. The roll and pickles were sn unnecessary add-on in my opinion.
She poured mild sauce and what I think was the house dressing on her salad. She said it was good, but I've seen her go in on a salad and usually there is nothing left. This time 1/2 of it was still on the plate. No doggy bags.
For a place whose marquee dish is its BBQ I find it to regrettably not be up to par.

Had a nice lunch. Staff was friendly. Meat could have used a little more flavor.

It’s pretty good bbq. The service has always been great. The vibe is fun and folksie. The play some fun blues music in the background and you can sample all kinds of different sauces from around the world.
John Gately
Not Texas BBQ. But it will do in a pinch. Baked beans were good.

First off, this is the first time writing a review. After going to this place I felt compelled to let everyone know the truth. We ordered the brisket sandwich, and a combo plate with pulled pork and brisket. This was the WORST prepared smoked anything I ever had the misfortune of putting in my mouth. The brisket tasted like it was made in the oven last week and just reheated today. Had absolutely no flavor but old meat. The pulled pork was just as bad as the brisket. After a bite of each, there was no way either of us was going to eat anymore of it. The sides tasted like it was prepackaged from a grocery store. There was a smoking pit out back, but I’m thinking that was just a lure to make people think it’s actual pit smoked BBQ. I wouldn’t waste your time or money going to this place. One star review is way to much of a compliment to give this place.

I travel a bit for work and eat at local BBQ restaurants frequently in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kansas, Texas and Missouri...this is by far my least favorite. First off I didn’t order fries, I tried a few and they are weak. The coleslaw was okay at best. Both the fries and slaw aren’t made in house. The hot link wasn’t spicy at all and had no smoke flavor whatsoever. The brisket was atrocious! Beef had no flavor, and the only time you slice brisket this thin is when it’s not cooked properly, you’re trying to hide how tough and stringy it is, however you can’t. The brisket was tough and stringy even sliced that thin. The meat at Arby’s while sliced thin is at least tender and somehow actually tastes better than this BBQ. I’m thinking this entire meal is heat and serve. Definitely not going back.

Maybe I’m not a BBQ fan? Take this with a grain of salt.
Food came out insanely fast, maybe a little too fast, yknow? Nothing was screaming hot either. I felt like the pulled pork and turkey sandwich was very dry. Mac n cheese is your typical restaurant mac n cheese ( a no go). Smoke pit beans were good! And their house made BBQ sauces mild and spicy were both excellent.
Everyone else in my party really enjoyed it and said they’d come back again!

I visited Buckingham BBQ last night. The service was great and the food was great. Be aware if you order BEEF BRISKET, THERE IS A $3 UP CHARGE…. It is $3 extra if it is a sandwich or the platters… If you order pork, turkey or ham there isn’t a extra charge. This is most likely due to the hacking of the meat suppliers, hopefully it goes back to the old price when the meat is in better supply. Here is my plater with beef, turkey and ham along with beans and potato salad…. $18.99 for what you see in the photo…

Glad I'm not the owner... the handful of negative reviews would make me angry! I've been enjoying their food for almost 20 years... Growing up in KC I have high standards for BBQ and this place nails it every time. Ham and brisket are always well trimmed (no fat to speak of) service is always fast. Beans and coleslaw are the best I've ever found... And if you are in the mood for a change the Pit Salad with half turkey and half ham is to DIE for...
Tom Fluharty
This place only gets a 3 for the service staff alone. They was great, as for the brisket sandwich I would not of even thought it was cooked in a smoker. Zero smoke ring or smokey flavor. Might as well cook it in a oven. Not good BBQ.
Amy Basnett
The ribs were burned and tasteless. Not a hint of smoke to be found . I'm a huge baked bean fan and these were cold and not very good. The Texas toothpicks were very good as was the coleslaw . The wait staff left a lot to be desired. . I do not feel like it was worth the drive or the price.

Had the 3 meat sample platter, loved everything. Parents had the half slab of ribs and,d they were the best ribs I've ever had.

If Buckinghams food wasn't actually good, I would also give this restaurant a 0. I talked with Mark, the owner, on the phone to place our catering order. He was very rude, and as a pregnant woman, almost had me in tears as I was inquiring about the menu. I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he was having a bad day, until he delivered our order. He was extremely rude when setting up the food and did not make any effort to be thankful or appreciative for our business. I am a huge supporter of local businesses, but would highly recommend to not use Buckinghams if you would like to be treated as a general customer. It's too bad that this tasty restaurant has such a poor mannered owner. We will never do business with them again.

It was my first time eating there and I will definitely be going back. I got the brisket sandwich and it was excellent! The coleslaw was really good also. Very good service as well. My waitress was very friendly and took very good care of me.
Elizabeth Mabry
Food was cold, meat tasted terrible, brisket looked like store bought roast beef. Only good thing was the waitress. She was very sweet but the food was awful.
Jacob Vanover
Staff was nice a performed as expected but yt? He food was horrible I'm from Texas and this bbq was a joke
Fred Seaman
Really great food in an old fashioned BBQ smokehouse atmosphere, with a friendly wait staff, full bar, and excellent menu selection.
The proprietor has great stories.
My favorite place.
Mark Fields
Good food and fast friendly service. Their horseradish cole slaw is a unique side dish that perfectly complements the barbecue.
Jamie M. Long
Always a good meal. And being able to get the smoked meats home for our lunches this week is spot on!
Bradley Hardin
When back in Class Columbia it's either tacos or turkey, turkey won last night. Their smoked turkey is the best!
Janet Wehmeyer Taylor
My favorite BBQ place! Love their pulled pork and sweet potato fries -- mmmm!
Duane Wallace
The brisket was sliced extremely thin which is a sign that it wasn't cooked to the right temperature and to compensate for tenderness they slice it roast beef sandwich thin. The ribs were ok at best. The sides were decent as far as sides go. I wouldn't spend the money or go out of my way to eat there though.
Brittany Lange
I would give this place 0 stars if possible. The employees and owner are extremely unprofessional and rude. I used to love this place, but after today I won't be going back.
Steve Thomas
Your visit could not be better if your server is from Marshall Texas.
Leonard E. Vierling
Good food, fast service and clean. I highly recommend the horseradish cole slaw.
Melanie S Stidham-Paige
My favorite place to eat the meat is smoked to perfection, I love the pit salad, and the coleslaw. In my opinion it is definitely the best BBQ in columbia.
Duane Wallace
It was good, not great. The proportions were good sized so go hungry. I thought the brisket was a it dry and not a ton of flavor (although my wife really enjoyed it, but it want the best we have ever had). The brisket was sliced paper thin which is typical for dry and not tender brisket cuts. Most brisket is cut to 1/4 inch slices on the flat and a little thicker on the point and should pull apart with minimal effort. The cheat is to cut it very thin so it has the appearance of tender. We are from TX where brisket is king, so I was disappointed on the brisket. The ribs were pretty good. They were smaller than what I was expecting, but they had good flavor. They were a little dry also, but they had good flavor. They had a bit of the "tug" which was nice. The sides were very good and rolls were good. I would go back again, but probably not get brisket.
Kiti
Hard to please from Kc. As bbq goes we are from Kansas City so well.... In Columbia they are definitely the best. We ate here all the time. The staff was really nice. But it is no Bate City. I do recommend them. And will eat there when we get back. But I missed our bbq from KC.

Not really kid friendly. It was a busy night and the kids weren't doing well with waiting so we decided to go through the drive thru instead. But they don't offer the kids meals at the drive thru! Why not I already order two adult meals and just one kid meal. Disappointing service and no reason offered.
Miranda
We came to this restaurant while visiting family in town and as barbecue lovers. There was a wait and our two young children started to get restless after about ten minutes. We spoke to the host and instead of continuing to wait we said we'd just head through the drive through. When we had first arrived the host was unsure of a wait time estimate and we had already been waiting for ten minutes when we decided to drive through. We loaded up the kids and pulled to the drive through, ordered, and then after asking us preferences on the kids meal the person came back on the intercom and we were told after our order was placed that kids meals weren't available through the drive through. The person asked if we wanted to get a regular instead. No we don't!! Our four year old and two year old in the car with us eat a fraction of even the kids meal portion and paying adult price for adult portions is ridiculous, expensive, and wasteful.

We weren't ordering tons of kids meals with no kids in the car or anything shady. We had two in the car with us! Not family friendly and not very knowledgeable of your host to say "hope you enjoy your meal" as we told him we were going through drive through with no mention that kids meals were now out of the question.

DOES NOT DELIVER. Still great food though
Kristian Hellwege
Badly Overrated. I've heard tales of this being a good spot for ribs and burnt ends. That is a terrible lie. The sauce is way too sweet, the ribs have no texture and almost no flavor to the meat, and i have never once gotten a hot link there that wasn't overcooked but then cold when i got it. Even if you're desperate for barbeque, i cannot recommend this place. The food is simply not good.
Robin
Love this place! Never bad experience, very friendly staff! I highly recommend it for BBQ
Kyle
Bettet BBQ in Town Elswhere. Buckingham's isnt bad, but there are quite a few other options that are better in Columbia for BBQ. I feel like they worry more about drowning their meat in sauces instead of properly smoking the meat for superb flavor.

Not bad for a catering job, but if you wanted a great barbecue experience, go elsewhere.
Klhaskamp
Great place to eat. My family and I have been eating at Buckinghams since it started on the business loop. I have never had a bad experience of any kind while eating here. Staff is more than friendly and the owner always make sure everything is running smooth. I personally like this place for the food and atmosphere! Very family friendly! Will always be a FAN of Buckinghams!

Raging Angry Owner. Just had lunch at Buckinghams here in Columbia, MO, November 10, 2012, my friend(her first visit here) had one quarter of her chicken left and was on her phone, the waitress didn't ask to remove her plate, took it and when we complained the Rude Owner came out and asked what happened and said, you had a napkin on your plate...he then verbally got Loud and Rude saying: WELL I GUESS I HAVE TO COOK UPA WHOLE NEW PIECE OF CHICKEN!! So much for me ever coming back!! He turned around and went into the kitchen... He came back to the table in about a minute and even got more rude accusing her of lying about saying her napkin was not over the chicken...I told him that "this is the worst customer service ever, I come through about 1-2 times every other week, and I am never coming back, I will make sure everyone I know hears about this"...BTW HE NEVER IDENTIFIED HIMSELF...I was so shocked!! Holy Moly.

Bland. Where's the smoked flavor?. I was not impressed. I had the BBQ salad topped with pulled pork and turkey. I'm a BBQ snob though.
Greenlight
Good but not the best BBQ. It's an OK choice for BBQ in this town but I would never be my first choice. I had the pulled pork sandwich, smoked sweet potato, and coleslaw. Pulled pork was tender and relatively moist (still needed some sauce though). Had a good smoke ring and some good smoke flavor. Better than Smokin' Chicks, not as good as Rooten Tooten or Shotgun Pete's. The sweet potato was alright, didn't really have a smoky taste, but rather tasted a bit off. Coleslaw was OK too, had a horseradish kick to it but a little too much dressing.
Ran
Use to be Good. After three visits at the south location I tried to talk to Mark to tell him there was no smoke taste in the meat I was being served and tasted bland. He didn't want to hear it. Told me I didn't know what the hell I was talking about. Anyone that knows anything about smoked meats won't come back after the first time. I can make a pork roast at home. Something changed when they moved from the business loop to south of town. I'm glad there are other BBQ restaurants in place or being built in Columbia. Mark's team was good in the past but not anymore. Pass.

Starch City. Limited menu, does not offer a chicken and rib combination platter, does not offer ribs with any combination platter. limited side dish selection all of which are starchy or salty. Makes me miss Sonny's and Grosse Pointe BBQ
MrsG
MrsG. I want to like this place soooo badly but the food just isn't great. It's just ok. That wonderful smell pulls me in and then I'm dissapointed every time by the meat. It just doesn't have any flavor. It sure doesn't taste like it smells. The cole slaw is really good and the beans but sadly the meat is flavorless. I may try again with hopes of it getting better.
Nikki Sanders
Best BBQ in Como. Love this little slice of heaven.
This is how you get your BBQ fix when it's below zero out.
Pepe LeHongry
Great Service. Good sandwich size (I had the Jumbo) THEY USE KC MASTERPIECE (raises roof) Fries are phenomenal. Definitely going back!!!
Rich Marinaccio
Very bland. Doesn't taste like barbeque to me. I do it alot better at home. Meat tends to be dry and with no discernable flavor. Sauces are ok but not great.
SGalla
Best BBQ in CoMo. Small dinning & Patio. Prices are good. Waitstaff is nice but think they need to have a more uniformed look, sometimes I think they just rolled out of bed.
Rob Stagni
Yummy. Sloppy Buck. Need I say more?
Peter Thimmesch
Found a roadside gem serving spicy smoked Andouille sausage, amazing baby back ribs and old blues. Just missing peanut shells on the floor ...
Jessica Keegan
Get the beef with slaw on top, fantastic! :)
Tex
OK, but not great.. The BBQ was OK. The pulled pork was dry, and the beef was thinly sliced. The beans and potato salad were really good though. Their sauces are quite boring, but thankfully they had some Show Me sauce nearby.
Katie Jo
Buckingham's is best when you carry out (make sure you get a sweet potato) and eat it at home with your favorite Kansas City sauce. They can smoke meat and the atmosphere is small and homey.
Cheryl
I was dissapointed - everything was very bland. The only difference between the mild and spicy sauce was sweetness. Nothing was seasoned. It wasn't bad, just boring.
Nathan
I really like this restaraunt! I can't wait to go back. The sauce is delicious and the meat is cooked very well.
Jane
Best cole slaw ever!. Mark's bar-be-que is superb. So is the horseradish cole slaw. Same for the baked beans. Ditto for everything else. I like eating in and sampling all of the different sauces.
Marty Runyan
Always good- the best BBQ in Columbia. Horseradish coleslaw rocks!
Jackie B
Great atmosphere and the food is wonderful. They make a great coleslaw

I came away pretty darn impressed with the overall meal at Buckingham Smokehouse. Even with the sub-par brisket, I can't complain much about anything else regarding Buckingham Smokehouse.
