Love the food at Valters. He is a great guy and the schnitzel is awesome. I have been numerous times and always good food and service! Even went with a party of 15 and it went fantastic
Great German food! We went to the German village while in Columbus, since we love German food and we were not disappointed. After reading some more reviews, I think we got lucky that Schmidt's had a huge wait. I can't imagine why it's so much more popular than Valter's. We both loved our food and our drinks. The service was amazing and we didn't have to wait for a table. If you want great German food, this is the place to go!
Side note, it gets great reviews everywhere else - not sure how the rating is so low here. The food, drinks, and service were top notch.
These are a few of my favorite things: The Matterhorn, French Onion Soup, Jagermeister Wings, Belgian Waffle, Beer Cheese Soup, Original Reuben. Try these with their Kolsh or Pilsner, top it off with their chocolate dome dessert (not the real name). Never had a bad (or even mediocre) meal there. If you're visiting Columbus, it's a must. If you live in Columbus, consider yourself lucky to always have Valter's.
Absolutely loved Valter's. The staff was welcoming. the menu was concise but offered varied options. Brunch here is particularly my favorite as the corned beef hash is phenomenal. Also, as a soccer fan they're always able to put my Premier League game of choice (Arsenal) on at the bar.
Love Valters. Great breakfast. Great bloodies. Great service. Great atmosphere. The menu is varied, the portions are spot-on. Everything we have tried has been simply amazing. A true gem!
Had a wonderful brunch at Valter's. The place was very busy, so service was a bit slow, but the food was superb! I look forward to returning.
Three of us went for Sunday breakfast and had a great experience. Very attentive service. Blueberry pancakes were very good a little crispy on the edges just the way I like. Real maple syrup added in the kitchen not on the table so a little more syrup would have been nice. Didn't ask for more, but I assume they would have brought more if requested. I ordered a bratwurst on the side my sister a weiswurst on the side and both were very good too. Different from what we have had before. My niece had the breakfast skillet which came in a cast iron skillet. She requested some mustard and was brought a German mustard "Lowensenf" which we now want to find for our own refrigerator. Three types of sausage, eggs , cheese, peppers, onion, and potatoes although my niece "deleted" the peppers and onions. Large mugs of strong, good coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. Now we will have to go back and try the lunch or dinner to try the entrees and sandwiches which looked so tasty and interesting. We had a positive experience and will be back.
Since our first visit, we’ve been back with family for more brunch. The building is the old German Heritage House on High Street at the western edge of German Village, a block from Schiller Park. (Brunch and then a stroll in the park is highly recommended.)
First visit. The pork Schnitzel & spaetzle was absolutely delicious! The cheese & truffle ravioli was awesome! Our server was attentive, knew the menu, & helped us make a decision for dinner.
This is my favorite place in German village. German Comfort food in an old school atmosphere. Valter takes a lot of pride in this place, it shows. Brunch was served in piping hot iron skillets and was amazing! Thanks Brandon, great service and we will be back 100%.
Walked here after having engagement photos taken in Schiller Park. Saw the reviews and wanted to enjoy some authentic German food. Valter's did not disappoint. Immediately upon walking in, I could tell that it was a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. All the employees were very sociable and nice. Our server, who was also bartending, was very prompt and kept us taken care of from the get-go. We ordered a Bavarian Pretzel, the Jägerschnitzel, and the Pork Schnitzel. The pretzel was a good size, soft but with a nice crust, and the dipping sauces tasted great. The entrees came out quickly and were hot and fresh. Both tasted great, lots of flavor and cooked right. The crust was not soggy, nor was it burnt, and the meat wasn't chewy or fatty. I was also impressed by the portion sizes. They were large, and I felt like my money was very well spent.
I think what most surprised me was seeing Valter himself walking about the restaurant, and just as we were finished paying, he came to our table and greeted us, and chatted for a moment. As we went out the door, they even handed us a complementary bottle of wine, which we were not at all expecting but happily accepted.
Can't recommend Valter's enough. Definitely go out and support this local restaurant.
My husband Greg and I are huge fans of Valters at the Maennerchor! We discovered Valters on Facebook on a Sunday years ago when a picture of a German fried bologna sandwich showed up on our feed and we agreed “we have to have that!” We went that day and have been loyal “guests” (as the owner Valter will say) ever since. Now that we’ve moved to Florida, when we come back to Columbus a trip to Valters is a must!!
My husband orders French onion soup everywhere we travel and I can assure you that Valters is the very best. In fact he’s ruined us. His French onion soup is the standard by which all others pale in comparison. He uses bone marrow and drippings from his prime rib - the flavor is so deep and delicious! Nothing compares. We dream about it from Florida. Another favorite is the Rhein Trio (although we substitute the weisswurst with Polish bratwurst) and his homemade mustard and sauerkraut is spot on with flavor! This trip we shared Valters pork, schnitzel, and homemade spatzel. The pork is tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside and so well seasoned! This is one on my favorites!!!
Valter is a passionate and excellent chef and he always makes his rounds at his restaurant to make sure everything is great. He’s such a warm soul. You need to experience his cooking, it’s quite the treat! GO NOW!! ❤️
SPECTACULAR! The pretzel was fresh, soft and decadent and the mustard is to die for. We did not have a reservation, but they made room for us. We were checked on by 3 different people to assure we had everything we needed and that it was to our liking. The only regret is we couldn't stay for dinner!
Really a great place! It was a little pricey, but it was really good. We sat outside and it was perfect weather. The service was really good. I had the hangover special. It was a good amount of food but not overly too much. My wife had the french toast with fruit which was made with baguette bread instead of normal bread. It was really good! We also tried the lemon cheesecake which was alright. The style they have is almost gelatinous and springy, which really isn't for me. Tried the cream puffs as well which were really good! Definitely will be back though, thanks guys!
Are you from Europe or have European origins? Have you ever wanted a taste of genuine, authentic German food? Well look no further. This place isn't like some tourist trap filled with sterotypypical decorative props or Lederhosen on the walls. This place was founded and built from the ground up with heart and soul from a real German. The food, like the Schnitzel, is exactly what you'd get overseas with no bells or whistles.
Highly recommended. 👌
Amazing food, great atmosphere and amazing service! Shout out to Lauren for being so friendly! Honestly such a wonderful place to take your family or go on a date!
My partner and I went on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. Everything was absolutely phenomenal. There was a bit of a wait on the food but, considering they make everything in house I would say it was well worth the wait. Our waitress was extremely helpful and attentive as well. Overall great experience and we will be back!
Love the pork shank and the lamb here! We sat out on the patio and it was a lovely atmosphere. The interior is cozy and comfortable as well. Service is very friendly as well.
