Great food, service, and atmosphere. Ate here 2 days in a row while visiting Columbus for several days. True traditional tasty Chinese fare complete with jasmine tea, chopsticks, and fortune cookies. Thai options available and excellent. Great place to have a relaxing meal with colleague, friend, or family. Peaceful music. Comfortable setting.
Very vegetarian friendly. Happy to convert any meat or seafood dish to vegetarian. Eggplant dishes awesome! Soups and dumplings dumplings delicious! Scallop, shrimp, and calamari dishes also great. Perfect preparation. See photos!
It's a formal dining setup with skillfully prepared dishes, but it doesn't offer traditional Chinese cuisine. I was hoping for authentic Hunan flavors, and this restaurant doesn't quite match those expectations.
Awesome. I got rid of onions and peppers cuz I hate those. I love carrots and pineapple 🍍. Love the sauce right thickness not runny and very sweet and yummy 🤤
First time trying food from here. Take out order. The inside of restaurant is gorgeous and clean. Staff that I interacted with was very friendly. I ordered black pepper steak with added bean sprouts and crab rangoon. They also gave me a pint of free fried rice since it was my first time at their restaurant.
The food was delicious and the beef very tender. I prefer sweet crab rangoon which it wasn’t, but that’s ok. When my health is better I am definitely going to go back and eat a meal at the restaurant, until then it’ll be on my list for take out or delivery (if available).

The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, with etched glass, detailed art, and mirrors. The fish tank is a big plus!
The food was the best Chinese I’ve ever had. My boyfriend and I got the Szechuan and Sesame chicken. So tender and flavorful!
I will definitely be giving them more business in the future!
Although not my favorite of the many excellent Asian Restaurants in the area, at this level it’s more a matter of personal taste. I do like my food a bit spicier, but this is an outstanding restaurant.
When restaurants open in 1987 like the human lion and they are still serving today it’s almost always bc they are exceptional. The Hunan lion is most definite exceptional. Same owners all these years and they care A LOT about their biz and it shows. If ur this far reading I’ll just say this. IF you eat at the HL and ur being honest I really think you will say, “this is the best Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to.” Outside of perhaps China which I don’t see many Americans visiting in the near future. Well at least we have the Hunan Lion on Bethel:))
Best Chinese food.... My family and I drive over an hour for this one of a kind experience. They need to hurry up and open back up 😊
Has been our go-to place for the best Chinese dishes in Central Ohio since the 80's, first starting at Hunan House, now as Hunan Lion on Bethel. Owners Jason & Allison are amazing hosts, and now brother Joey has joined them.....making the food and experience even better! (Not that we thought that could be possible).
Shawn (server) is a consummate professional that is one of the best in Columbus. We'd go every week if my waistline could afford it!
Absolutely love this place! Everything about Hunan Lion is top notch and exudes class. Beautiful dining room adds to the experience. The spicy Sesame Noodles are addictive.
Ordered the Wonton soup and Hunan combination as well as the General Tso Chicken. All was delicious and came out quickly.
Sign on door as well as internet hours say they are open til 9. They close at 830.
Will definitely be back to try something new.

One of the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Definitely make a reservation for busier holidays. Food is all around great! Staff is wonderful too!
My condo community held their monthly dinner at the Hunan Lion and it is always excellent as expected.
We had a large party and were seated at a great table in the cocktail lounge.
The food is always an excellent quality and the service was amazing. They have an excellent menu with amazing choices and variety and the cost is reasonable.
Our server handled this large party of people with ease. At the end of the meal we all applauded her!!

It was quick and easy to get in. The food was good, the service was good. The decor was a little dated, but clean. It struck me as a place where a lot of older people eat. Had General Tso’s and Pineapple Chicken. Both were hot, well prepared and big portions.
