This place was recommended by Patty at Rose and Thistle Bed and Breakfast. It was without a doubt one of the best meals I have ever had. We started with the calamari which was delicious, salad came next. It was a great salad dressing and the beef tenderloin was probably the best I have ever had. It was so worth spending my birthday there. We even got to meet the owner/chef Mel.
I can't wait to go back.

M husband and I Just ordered two blackened chicken sandwiches.. let me tell you..... Sooooooooo amazing. We have eaten at Mel's alot.. This sandwich is rediculously amazing.. compliments to the chef for making top quality food. We are so happy to have you guys so close to home.. you have been superb and always welcoming. The brunch we had after my wedding was amazing. This is one of the best places to eat in coop. So if your just visiting it's a must and we'll if your a local you know it a must. Thanks guys.
Our food was excellent - chicken parmesan for me and sirloin for my husband. There homemade marinara was amazing! Service was great from the hostess you the waiter staff. The owner was walking around talking to the guests, making it all a great atmosphere. Highly recommend going!
We have been to Mel’s for lunch and loved it but this was our first dinner there. We come up from NJ often as we have a home in nearby Sharon Springs we rent over Airbnb and use ourselves. This weekend we brought another couple with us and decided to have dinner here before doing the Cooperstown Candlelight Ghost Tour. The waitress was extremely cheerful and even let us taste the wine and beer choices before ordering. All 4 of us loved our meals and were impressed with the variety, preparation and appearance of each dish. I had the butternut squash soup and shrimp scampi over angel hair pasta. The others ordered New England clam chowder, burgers, pesto fries and the salmon over quinoa. If we didn’t have to leave for the tour we would have ordered dessert for sure. I spied a slice of cake at a nearby table that looked awesome. We will definitely be back!
My boyfriend and I ate at Mel’s this past weekend and we enjoyed every single thing! We made reservations for Saturday night and got right to our table. Water was immediately served and our waitress was very prompt and sweet. We got the shrimp cocktail and a cup of the New England Clam chowder for appetizers and both were so delicious! My boyfriend had an end cut of the prime rib (which he’s never able to get) and it was cooked to perfection, he dipped it in a horseradish dip and it was so decadent! I enjoyed the lobster Mac n cheese. We enjoyed every aspect of our visit to Mel’s and when we venture back to Cooperstown we will definitely be going back!!
Really nice place to go when visiting Cooperstown! The chef/owner came out to ask everyone how everyone’s food was... great service... will definitely be back!
OMG!!! If you go here you must get the scallops -appetizer and the lobster risotto!!! Major you!

We really enjoyed the food here!! Our server was really great...attentive to our needs and a step ahead. We will be eating here whenever we are in Cooperstown.
Great food. Excellent wait staff (Rebecca). Coffee was extremely good. My wifes drink was very well made.
Food was excellent. Staff was very friendly and attentive. I had dinner here on a Saturday evening at 7:00 and goodness was it prime time. Good thing reservations were made. My one complaint was the noise. It was extremely loud. Definitely not a place to go when it is busy and you're trying to have a nice quiet dinner.
We had reservations at another establishment but decided to dine here at last minute and so glad we did. Service was top notch, our server Sean was very friendly. Nice vibe and the food just delicious. I ordered the beet risotto with shrimp and my husband had the porterhouse veal special. We also had the caprese shrimp for app. I highly recommend Mel’s!
This is a great spot for food and drinks on the tiny strip that is downtown Cooperstown. Having just spent a week in a rough and tumble camp barracks with thirteen 12 year olds, perhaps my expectations were a bit low, but I was really blown away by the quality of the food and drinks here.
It's definitely a place that is above a country town caffe! Cute corner with fast service and nice food. The food was both tasteful and appealing. Don't leave without trying their clam showder!
Mel's was absolutely amazing. Our dinner and cocktails were great. There is a casual vibe but a more upscale menu, which seems to fit Cooperstown perfectly. We will definitely go back!

Do not overlook this little gem! You have to try it! We visited the Baseball Hall of Fame and while walking to Sam’s Pizzeria across the street, we were immediately deterred by a young girl smoking a cigarette and singing outside of the pizzeria and blocking the door. We walked down to the corner and remembered the reviews of Mel’s we’re pretty good. So glad we were deterred! Ambiance was so pretty, our server was so attentive, and the food was fantastic! We ordered the fried mozzarella and the sauce was delicious. Crispy fry on the mozzarella, too. The clam chowder was also amazing in flavor, consistency and the clams were plentiful, big and tender! Potatoes were big also! My son got the children’s macaroni and cheese which was still a large portion! We also loved that it was house made and not packaged Kraft. I ordered the adult macaroni & cheese, also so tasty and rich! My husband got the burger special. Probably the best beer cheese we’ve ever had and the burger was cooked perfectly. We live in Texas or else we’d make this spot a weekly thing!
First visit to Cooperstown NY in 40 years. Chose Mel's since it was very close to our rental. Food and service was outstanding! Had the curry chicken and the wife the baked haddock. Well prepared, served reasonably promptly considering peak dining hour. Had a minor mixup with the gift cards we used to pay for the meal, but the manager understood and made it right in the end. Went back the following night for our final meal in COOPERSTOWN. I highly recommend Mel's to anyone looking for a great reasonably priced meal. Kudos Mel's!!
Highly recommend this restaurant! The food is fantastic. The service was great. If you do plan to visit from out of town as we did, I do suggest making a reservation. Luckily our wait was under 30 minutes. But even if you do need to wait, the town is small enough to walk around a bit and return as we did.
We were visiting the Hall of Fame and stopped here for lunch. We had a party of 10 and they figured out how to accommodate us even though it was busy and we were a large party. The service was good and the food was good as well. They were able to accommodate my daughters dairy allergy which was great. They have a good variety of food for everyone such as salads, sandwiches, burgers, etc. I thought the prices were also reasonable.
Service was excellent and the food was very good. The pesto garlic fries were the best! I wish we had Crabbies ginger beer in GA! Yum!!
What a great little restaurant! We day at the bar and had dinner; the bartender was wonderful. My husband's filet was cooked perfectly, and I had a delicious baked haddock. Definitely recommend stopping here if you're in Cooperstown!
Great service and delicious food! Ordered the rosemary shrimp, which was amazing. My daughter got the clique six salmon, which was also very flavorful! Definitely enjoyed our visit!
Busy place in Cooperstown. One of the" fine dining" options in town. Lunch and dinner. Good quality food. Attentive service but can be slow when they're busy. Well stocked bar. Good place to eat if you want some thing other than bar, food, pizza, ice cream, etc

A valiant attempt at fine dining. Service was great, food was pretty good. Most of our dishes came out on the bland side and were overcooked. Given the price point of the entrées, I would say it was a good value overall.
American fare at reasonable prices. The food, especially the burgers and salads were excellent. There is outdoor seating, but on a warm, uncrowded summer evening, it was closed. Staff was attentive and food was delivered hot. Good value, but nothing special.
A HUGE thank you to Mel’s and MacKenzie for catering our wedding. The food was absolutely incredible! We received so many compliments from our guests, and for the past month my husband and I have reminisced about how good the food was. Not only was everything phenomenal, but MacKenzie and the staff helped us throughout the night with cleanup and various extra tasks. MacKenzie even came the day before to give my husband and I recommendations and help with setup of the reception space. We truly can’t thank Mel’s enough for catering our wedding, we are so grateful to them for everything. They were affordable, easy, and delicious. They were also very accommodating of our dietary restrictions and helpful in choosing the right food. Mel’s did such a fantastic job, you really can’t ask for more!
Came in late, no reservation, but they were able to seat us, a group of five, in about five minutes. Place was crowded for a Thursday night, so u may want to make reservations. Restaurant has one room with bar and high tables, and a second room for dining. My buddy amd I ordered the Pesto Shrimp and Ravioli with roasted tomatoes and spinach. It was delicious. Surprised it didn't come with bread and butter for dipping, but still tasty. Others ordered the steak with rice and stringbeans and were very happy with the meal.
Wait staff did an amazing job covering both rooms including several groups of 8-10 people. Overall, a wonderful experience. Totally recommend.
