One of the very few Gyu-tan shops in the LA area! If not, perhaps the only one? The price may scare first timers off but trust me these little pieces of charcoal grilled beef tongue will blow your mind with those aromatic flavor and the perfect texture! I added the curry dish for the heck of it. It was good but I’d honestly just get more grilled tongue if you’d like to spend more money. Very glad that they’re serving Japanese style grilled beef tongue here!
Came here accidentally but turn out to be the right place for the best charcoal grilled beef tongue. The price surprises me because it's expensive for a one-single-personal lunch/ dinner. I was hesitant at first but wanted to treat myself something differently. I was right and the other reviews were right, the beef tongue was flavorful, soft, and looked delectable. It came with white rice, some pickles, wasabi, and warm beef soup.
The first time I tried 1/ Gyutan set 8 pcs
The second time I tried 3/ Tsukasa set (Eat in only)
10 out 10 recommended!
The THICK chewy tender beef tongue here is outstanding! There are many thin pieces that are on the overgrilled side but still pretty good. The price here keeps racking up every time I come so this can only be a treat yoself place now :(
I highly recommend set a and b and add additional pieces. Can’t get enough of it! The rice and soup combo that it comes with for the set is also bomb.
Gyutan Tsukasa is located inside the Japanese grocery store, Mitsuwa. This place offers dine in or take out options as well. Place your order and keep your receipt as you will need this to see the number and to pick up your food.
This place specializes in serving grilled beef tongue, and don't diss it until you try it!! It has a very nice texture, and you can taste the char from the grill. They are open from 11am to 8:30 pm, last order at 8:30pm.
You can get the bento box in a set of 4 or 12 pieces of Gyutan beef, and it comes with rice and gyutan soup.
I opted on the 12 piece with extra rice, and it's so delicious. The soup is very tasty. It kind of reminds me of the Filipino soup called "Nilaga." I can literally eat a big bowl of this soup.
We also ordered Gyutan balls, which come with 3 big balls. This is a must-have, very soft and crunchy at the same time, and it came with furikake and kewpie mayonnaise with teriyaki sauce. This is vary savory and so good.
We also got the Gyutan stew. This one is good. However, it's a little too sweet for my liking.
Every time I come here to Orange County, California, I make sure I come to this place at least once during the trip. It's always worth it.
CHARCOAL FIRE BEEF TONGUE JAPANESE STYLE? OH YES PLEASE! I'm a huge fan of beef tongue, but I'm also very picky about the beef tongue! I don't like the thick cut because the texture usually ends up being chewy, gamy, and have a funny aftertaste. Good thing you are never gonna experience anything like that at Gyatan Tsukasa.
Would recommend to get the Gyutan set (w/ rice and gyutan soup). The gyutan there was just perfect, the flavor was really good and the 3 sides were also on point. I really liked the gyutan soup too, it was light and the beef was so tender. The scallions def added a great flavor to it. The only downside would be the prices. I mean, $21.22 for a set? I just wish we could get more pieces though.
All in all, it was a tasty meal. Probably one of the best gyutan we had in SoCal. Def worth trying!
In my opinion, this place boasts the best of the best beef tongue in SoCal. I've yet to find any other spot that comes close to matching up with the flavors and quality offered here. It's become a go-to for me, and whenever friends come back home here, the immediate question is, "Can we go here?"
The nature of the taste, as the meat grills with a charming charcoal touch, is nothing short of fantastic. The tenderness and flavor profile are perfectly balanced, creating an experience that has the power to light up the whole world in your mouth. Visiting once in a while is a treat, and this place holds a special spot in the hearts (and taste buds) of those who've had the pleasure of savoring its exceptional beef tongue.
PS: the price now is higher than before….yeah……I guess it’s cuz of the inflation……
Best Japanese beef tongue in the entire state. Top quality, super authentic place. Restaurant is in a food court convenient if you want to try other things. Great gyutan soup as well. Nothing to critique.
I am very impressed with this BBQ Beef Tongue restaurant in the Mitsuwa market.
I have never seen a restaurant that specializes in Beef Tongue or like my vato’s say.. Lengua which is my favorite taco.
There was a line as expected and it takes a little bit but they did a great job of cooking my beef tongue which worried me the most because it becomes chewy if you over-cook it.
My plate also came with a beef tongue soup which had pretty nice Chunks of beef tongue so they don’t skimp. The pieces were nicely charred thick cuts that didn’t require any sauce. I would take this platter over a rib eye steak because it’s so tender and delicious. I highly recommend and will definitely return!
What a great addition to the food court!
First time visiting this indoor eatery food court. Interesting interior design with open-space sitting area in the middle of the court and several Japanese eateries dotted the outside circle. I ate at Gyutan Tsukasa and it had a line, but moved quickly. The grilled beef tongue does not disappoint. Definitely worth a visit.
Again, I was amazed to find a Japanese style charcoal grill gyutan (ox tongue) place in a supermarket food court!! Not a comfortable place to sit for long, but the food this place serve is definitely worth going 😆👍😋
