Got the catfish po'boy basket. Fantastic sandwich. I was hungry and the portion was great for a hungry guy. Absolutely intend to go back and try some of their other plates.

Ordered the oysters and crawfish. They both were bigger in size than any place I've been so far in the North Texas area. The crawfish were cheaper by the pound as well. Will definitely be going back.

Had to go just because of the name! 😂 Cute little spot, but the flavor of the food was not my cup of tea. It was very busy so don’t just take my word about the food. It was the name for me. 😊

I am instantly a big fan of Hoochies for quality seafood and a relaxing and casual atmosphere. We were close by enjoying some cold brews and searched for a spot to get some dinner. Fortunately we found that Hoochies had great reviews, and they were not lying.
I ordered the shrimp boil which came with a great portion of shrimp, potatoes and a small piece of corn. When you order you can get it regular or spicy, or course I got it spicy. The shrimp were excellent and cooked properly. The seasoning on the shrimp added amazing amounts of flavor that penetrated into the meat, not just sitting on the shell The seasoning made my lips burn and was very satisfying on the heat scale. Beware not to rub your eyes, even if you have washed your hands with soap and water for a while after having this dish.
I also got some oysters and was please with them. You can get them prepared in multiple different ways, but I love them on the half shell over ice. They were shucked very cleanly and were easy to enjoy with a little of the provided cocktail sauce and horseradish. You can order them individually so you can get exactly what you are wanting. It felt like they normally have multiple species of oysters, but it was Blue Point oysters on our mid june visit.
My family order the shrimp tacos and were very pleased with them. The taco is filled with delicious shrimp with cilantro, avocado and a delicious sauce. When you get everything into a single bite it is delicious. It was served with a Spanish style rice that was not tomato based and packed some great flavors.
We found that the staff was very friendly and took good care of you, while all the time moving food out to to tables. They also had plenty of staff working to make sure that things ran smoothly. There was plenty of seating while we were there and the restaurant was clean.

The tacos are sooo good, we tried the shrimp, chicken, fried chicken, & fish. Favorites were the shrimp & fried chicken. Beer was half off during happy hour & tacos were $2 each (Thursday is when we went & possibly they have the same taco deal on Tuesday). I will be returning!

Oysters are extremely easy to mess up. I listen to a few recommendations and jumped right in with the oyster Po boy on my first visit here. I was not disappointed. I loved everything about the sandwich. First off, it was huge. Two people could get full sharing this meal. The bread was a perfect, strong texture while still being soft, the oysters were good-sized & fried to perfection, with just the right amount of sauce. I was delighted. The only things that prevented this from being one of my rare, five-star reviews was that the fries were a bit under done & the tea was not nearly as good as the food. I would definitely drink something else.

Great food, decent prices, amazing service. Food was excellent I got the chicken strips (I know it’s a seafood place) but wanted to try they’re non seafood options. Needless to say the chicken strip are delicious. Great portion size. Seafood options however are amazing doesn’t matter what you order it’ll be pleasant.

Surprisingly good food! We had the boiled shrimp and fish of the day (haddock with butter sauce and capers). The preparation of the fish rivals high-end seafood restaurants. Seriously, so good! Fun, relaxed college atmosphere. Hole in the wall type restaurant that reminds of us our favorite restaurant in Navarre, FL. The girl who took our order and the young man who bussed tables and checked on customers are a great value to this place. I hope management realizes their contribution because they made a star difference in my review.

Fried oyster po' boy was awesome and my wife loved the fried shrimp! The seafood gumbo was the best I've ever had! Highly recommend!!

Small place but good and fast service. The beer was cold and the food hot. Just as good as joe’s and way better than razzoos. We will return for more great food.

Awesome food, fun relaxed atmosphere, great selection of beer! If y’all are into Cajun seafood this is the place for you! Cmon down Chere!!!!
April Maselli
A friendly little spot that really wants you to enjoy the yummy seafood. Cajun catfish was pretty darn good and this hush puppies just a little sweet with a tiny heat!
Lance Snyder
Great food, good beer. Their hush puppies were awesome with a touch of jalapeño flavor, but no heat.
Sara Crowley
Got seafood gumbo, maybe should just call it shrimp gumbo cause that is the only seafood in it. Very cold. Seems like they put mine in bowl 1st them cooked my daughter's. Hers was hot mine extremely cold. Most logical way would have been, cook the one that takes longer then just as it's about done put the gumbo in bowl. I don't know since I'm not a cook

I found them online and rode my motorcycle 2 hours to go try the roasted oysters. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the oysters and the Dungeness crab. It was the best seafood I have had in a very long time.

I am glad we found this place. Friendly people and good food... only complaint is the corn and potatoes are a little too spicy for me. But I'm really there for the shrimp. Yum

Visiting from out of town. I have a gluten intolerance, staff was very accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable. Ordered the fish of the day and it was delicious! The salad dressing was simply amazing!! And no gluten issues!

Decently priced food that is made with care and served efficiently. This is a nice find and a favorite whenever we visit Denton. The walk up concept works well here. Favorites: the gumbo, the blackened catfish and the crawfish etoufee (when available).
Jay
In my opinion the best non-chain restaurant around. It has old school walk up, order and find your seat with some of the best food I've ever had in my life. The service is surprisingly good for a colleged based employment staff. For the money the quality of the food if you're a seafood lover is amazing and for you non-seafood lovers they do have chicken on the menu. Overall I give this place five stars for food service and atmosphere
Les
This place has great food, great service, and average prices for Denton. We have been here multiple times and the service and food are always awesome. We love it!

My wife and I had the Fish Taco plate and a Gumbo. Odd, they charged extra for cornbread. The fish taco was fantastic. 10/10. I liked my wife's Gumbo. It had a great flavour. AAA

The blackened catfish served over salad with Granny Smith apple and the vinaigrette is the best I've ever had. The fish and greens are fresh and the dressing is perfect. Also, the fried shrimp and fries are tasty and crispy. Finally, they have Lone Star on tap. Never disappointed.
Shane Chadwick
Definitely the best place we've eaten in Denton so far. Oysters on the half shell and fried catfish were awesome. Mom will be mad, but they have the best hush puppies I've ever had. Don't miss this little gem of a restaurant.
Nancy
Don't bother!!! Our food came in shifts & instead of fries gave me all hush puppies. They brought the fries, after bringing it to their attention. They were nice but considering the prices I would like to had our meal together. Nothing was done to make it right.
Will not be back & don't recommend.
Aaron Martin
Drove past this place many times and decided to try it out. Glad I did! Really great seafood and friendly staff. It offered a beach like atmosphere that took us miles away to paradise. Would definitely recommend!
John Drewson
The wait for this extremely mediocre food was not worth it. The place is cramped, uncomfortable, and dirty. I have them a second chance and it was worse. If you want average catfish, shrimp and fries, save your money and go to Long John Silver's. Your stomach will still hurt, but you'll save a few bucks.
Susan
Tiny place with good seafood! Cornmeal battered fresh catfish, which was honestly some of the best I've had - not greasy or overcooked. Perfect! The fried oysters were very small, but there were plenty, and they were also tasty and fresh. the fried shrimp were absolutely fabulous - large, butterflied shrimp cooked to perfection. The shrimp cocktail was different, but delightful. The shrimp were small, but fresh and tender, served in a large beer mug with diced avacado, cilantro, onions, and tomatoes, along with your choice of medium or hot sauce. It was a huge portion of shrimp. The french fries were crispy and nicely seasoned. All portions were large, and my family unanimously agreed that we will be returning soon!

Great Food, Fun Atmosphere. Having been part of the food and restaurant culture for the most of our lives, my wife and I are always on the lookout for a truly unique restaurant with great food. And in the seafood category, I believe we've finally found that place right here in our own backyard. Hoochies Oyster House if one of those places where we could eat almost every day. We absolutely love both the food and al fresco dining on the porch.

On our first visit a couple of weeks ago, we began our dinner with a dozen oysters on the half-shell, after which we each had one of their amazing Shrimp Cocktails. The oysters were extremely fresh, plump, and delicious with all of the lime, lemon, horseradish and cocktail sauce your heart and tastebuds desire. The Shrimp Cocktail was served sushi style in an ice cold beer mug--outrageously delicious! We also shared a three item fried Combo Basket with four oysters, three shrimp, a large catfish fillet, and a pile of steak fries. To wash all of this food down we enjoyed on of their ice cold Texas beers.

On our second visit, we decided to pick up a couple of Combo Baskets, and some Rice & Beans, and enjoy them at home in front of our new flat screen TV. Again, the food was absolutely delicious, but I did miss the cold beer.

Hoochies Oyster House is a great place, with great food. Another recent Denton restaurant hit that we will be frequenting often. Thanks John for bringing us this great venu.

Incredible Seafood!. Went to Hoochie's for the first time today, and I have to say it's one of the best seafood places I've ever eaten at. I had a half pound of boiled spicy shrimp and a bowl of red beans and rice. The red beans and rice had a spicy kick and generous amounts of veggies while the shrimp almost looked too good to eat! Will definitely be coming back again for crawfish season....

Honestly, we went in with low expectations, but wanting to try something different. Though smaller than we anticipated, we loved it. It felt like family. No strangers. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was not over battered, not greasy, and tasted good. The fries were crunchy, a must for me. The tartar sauce was excellent as well. The owner, was super pleasant and you can tell he takes pride in his place. He makes sure your food tasted good and even cleans your setting. We will be back. :)

Best shrimp anywhere. Ask for Sam, the owner. Great guy and super friendly.

Cheap beer. Try the Land shark.

Fish tacos and beer battered fried pickles are great.

I truly enjoy the food, music, staff and cold beer! The porch is a great place to kick back and watch the world go by! Delightful!

Shrimp is better at a Chinese buffet. I got the plate of boiled shrimp and it was easily the worst shrimp I have ever had. I knew something was wrong when the server brought the shrimp out in about two minutes. It looked like it had been sitting around for a while and was overcooked to the point that the meat was coming apart and sticking to the shell.

I ordered it "spicy" so it had something that looked like cayenne pepper sprinkled on top (it came off with the shell of course). The shrimp itself tasted like it was just boiled in regular water. The potatoes and corn that came with the meal were also bland and flavorless. If the cooks are using any kind of crab/shrimp boil at all then it is minimal.

I would honestly rather eat ramen noodles than try this meal again. It was one of the worst that I have ever had at a restaurant.

PS. In addition to the terrible food, I heard Hootie and the Blowfish three times while I was there. I couldn't get out fast enough.

They need to go to Frilly's to learn how to cook seafood. Everything was way overcooked, overcornmealed and small orations of everything but the frozen French fries. Also no dining to speak of unless you really like to eat outside amongst the critters in the Texas heat.
Julia
A little spot of sunshine in Texas!. We found this bright little yellow building while carrying heaps of luggage through Denton, Texas. Great location and fit-out, food was delicious (the bean burger was the best vege food I tasted in the South!) and the owner John was super lovely. He even gave us a ride to the airport on his way home! Definitely worth a visit if you're in the hood!
Ryan
Very busy, but very good. Shrimp was excellent and the catfish was really good. Service was quick too. Definitely will come back.
