We loved the set up and casual vibe of the place. You order your food first - they had some Mexican Vegan options!!! Then, they have a full bar, with some great, local beers on tap! Being a former bartender myself, we always sit at the bar...Their happy hour prices are insane! The cooks and bartender were exceptional and extremely helpful! This place was so good, we went to another location in downtown Denver for dinner, the next night and it was just as good - Highly recommend this place! 👍👍
Very tasty fast casual Mexican. Similar style to someplace like Chipotle, more flavorful but slightly smaller portion of a burrito bowl than you would get at Chipotle. Bowl comes with free chips or tortilla on the side which is a plus!
The guys behind the counter were just the best. Friendly, efficient, competent and upbeat/fun. The food was excellent and the prices competitive. Completely enjoyed a late evening casual dinner after a Denver Zoo Lights outing. Well done gentlemen!!
Awesome place 😎 so glad it was the first stop on my journey 😀 happy hour till 8pm and the best burrito bowl I've had ever!
After years of walking past - usually because the line was so long - I finally decided to hit Illegal Pete's. A pretty good burrito, certainly by Colorado standards. Compared to other similar options, food was better, service was better, and atmosphere better, so yeah, I suppose I'd go back. Still not going to wait 10 minutes plus though for a burrito.

This place gets a thumbs up from me. I still enjoy their burritos, I feel like they've kept the quality of the ingredients up over the years, my fish burrito didn't disappoint. AND the cashier noticed (guessed) that we were headed to a Ball Arena concert and gave us a free beer with each ticket. What a way to make my night! Bartender was helpful trying to get me a draft that was close to my preference. I'll be back for concerts, that's for sure.
Went in for my first time. Was amazing customer service. Asked about a first responders and they were very accommodating to me. 10/10 huge burritos
Favorite spot to grab a drink and some food in downtown Denver. The prices are fantastic, the service so good and you can eat here late!! For sure hit this place up if you're craving good food and a good time.
Caleb is amazing here! I come to this place every time I visit Denver and the food hits the spot every time. 😀
Great Steak Burrito $11, just 2 blocks away from Train & Bus...
Classic place for a happy hour margs and burritos. The fish is so good and under rated, I recommend it with cabbage and fish sauce! Staff was super friendly (as usual) bartender was efficient, kind and gave us our space
Found out this is a NEW location as of two years ago…they were on the other block. Food was good and the Rooster Roast after dinner about Pete was funny!
Went on a business trip to Denver and stumbled upon this place while looking for lunch. The line was insanely long and was well worth it. I had a Mexican coke barbacola burrito and they definitely stuffed it. The meat was juicy and tasty, but what made me write a review is the fact that they mix the burrito ingredients together so you don't get pockets and every bite has every ingredient. To me it's what puts them over Chipotle and other burrito places. Can't go wrong here.
Always a great experience coming here. Food is great, service is fast and friendly. This is a staple lunch spot - you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommend if you are vegetarian or vegan!
Visited after office hours during a weekday a subway style ordering and the employees were very friendly.
Ordered the Baja Fish tacos as I was mainly craving for tacos. They were freshly prepared onflour tortilla and the pico di gallo was also very tasty. A solid 4/5
Delicious food with fresh ingredients and served in great portions. We really enjoyed the burrito bowls we got as well as the queso and chips. Additionally, it is very inexpensive! Out of all the "chipotle"-style concepts we have tried, this ranks at the top of the list for us. The vibe is also very cool and hip, especially given its location in LoDo. Definitely give this place a try if you are a fan of chipotle - Illegal Pete's is better!
I had the barbaco burrito which was super tasty and very reasonably priced. It was so good I went back the following two days to have another burrito and a barbaco quesadilla. I definitely recommend eating at illegal Pete's if you like Mexican food.
Did Illegal Pete’s LoDo location become my new favorite in the Denver area!? I think so!
Roxy, the new Manager at this location, completely rules! She made my experience more than incredible with her attentiveness and kindness. Morgan, the bartender, hooked it up with a delicious margarita, and now I’m one happy and well fed individual.
Whether you’re passing through, catching the train, or live locally, be sure to stop by this Illegal Pete’s location as it’s hand downs the most welcoming of them all!
