I admit I didn't know Sonny's was even there until maybe six months ago, but once I discovered it and started following them on Instagram, I became quite preoccupied with going. As in I actually felt like I *needed* to. It compelled me, like a moth to a flame, or a ginormous electron magnet. Or a siren singing sweet songs, luring sailors to their peril. Okay. Maybe not that last one, but you get the point. Had to go. Just had to.
Sad story: despite the allure, we kept talking ourselves out of going, because for some reason we were thinking it was very pricey and we're on a ridiculously tight budget at the moment. So, no Sonny's for us. *sigh* Sad face. Boo hoo. All that.
Misguided belief that it was cost-prohibitive and aforementioned tight budget aside, I decided last night that enough was enough. It was just flipping time. It was a good week for me financially. We deserved it. We *needed it*. So away we went.
And guess what? Not expensive at all! Not for what we got. The menu is somewhat small but quite thoughtfully curated; the food manages to be interesting and different - maybe even a little bit adventurous - without going in the direction of just plain weird or pretentious. And I actually appreciate it that they don't have a ten-page menu. I think it's best to do only as much as you can do well - and they're totally nailing that.
BTW: we had two appetizers, two entrees, two cocktails, and two beers for under $75. That's way less than we would have spent for comparable deliciousness anywhere else. This isn't the dollar menu at McDonald's, folks.
The portions were not skimpy, but also not totally shameful like the 15-pound plates of mediocrity and unlimited breadsticks you can get for $8.99 at any number of local chain restaurants. It was just enough food. And it was really *good* food. I left feeling content, not like I was about to pop. That's how food is supposed to be. Oh, Sonny's sources a ton of their ingredients locally too, which is also how food is supposed to be. Do you know how hard it is to find a grass-fed burger? Let alone one that came from a few towns over? So: good food, not too expensive, well-portioned, local. Win, win, win, win.
Throw in an eclectic cocktail menu and good selection of beers; friendly wait- and kitchen staff who were clearly happy and working very well together; and the somehow simultaneously edgy yet charming and cozy (but not cramped) space itself, and I have my new favorite local place to eat. Dover needed something like this. I feel lucky that we got it and Portsmouth didn't. Neener neener neener!

Ok I am gluten free foodie, I love taste and good quality as having food allergies can be a challenge. This place was so awesome tonight for mine and my husband 9 years anniversary I can say short menu but prices low to the amazing quality/quantity of food you get from here. Plus want different flavor...don't be afraid to try different food combinations I had pumpkin spice devilish egg tonight too ummm ok odd to think but actually very good
Rating as a bar, not a restaurant as I have never eaten here. Our server was awesome and made our night even more fun; she was fantastic! Not a huge beer selection, but a great list of choices for everyone. Definitely will be back!
A great place to connect with other free-spirited individuals and a very comforting, positive, and lively atmosphere. The crowd and the employees make this place feel like a safe haven. I'm really glad I finally experienced this place, and I almost can't imagine going anywhere else for drinks and karaoke in Dover after finding this hidden gem.
This Restaurant is very unique! The food is great, the bartenders are exceptional. Try a “Life Elixir”...so good. Thank you Annalise. The staff and owner want to ensure you have the best possible experience. We will go back again and again.
The bathrooms smell super good. The food is excellent. The cocktails are creative. The PBR Comes in the Can � and the servers are the best!! ����

I have loved Sonny's pretty much since I discovered it a couple years back. Excellent food, excellent tap beer menu and excellent service. Best bar in Dover in my book.
Definitely expensive, but SO worth it. This bar has great, top-quality drinks. Their Smoked Manhattan's are seriously so good and I get them every time. I've only had a burger there so far, but even that and the fries were great. The menu looks awesome, so I plan to explore it more in the future!
Excellent service, food, and beer! One of the best places Dover has to offer in my opinion.

A favorite for date night for me and my husband! Great food, comfort food with a twist. Cocktails and beers always unique and delicious! Atmosphere fun, cool stuff on the TV like Bob Ross or some old silent movie. Sometimes live music! We love coming here when we get a chance. I literally have dreams about the food from Sonny's haha 😂
Started with the hush puppies, shared with a friend. They were super delicious! Then the pot belly, with sticky rice, and kimchi came out, aaahhhh-maaaa-zing!! The waitstaff was superb as well!! Definitely going back again, for sure!
Great staff- excellent service- and Yummy southern classic starters!! Turned around our Friday night evening!!
The food is fabulous, the staff is accommodating and eager to please, the cocktails are unique and delicious, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting! Not to mention the owners are super cool! -Looking forward to more evenings at this great place!!

Had dinner there tonight and everything was outstanding. The salted caramel mousse for dessert was unbelievable. Rich dark dark chocolate with the salt was perfection.
My husband and I went to Sonny's for brunch this morning. Not only was the staff amazing... So was the food. I would definitely recommend the grits. They make their own ketchup which is fantastical. We had fun building our own Bloody Mary's. The atmosphere was perfect and we will surely be going back.
Have been to brunch, dinner and happy hour. I'm in love with the veggie burger and tofu scramble as well as the pineapple habanero margaritas- oh and the fresh made ginger beer! Love how fresh/local homemade everything is and super cute sweet staff:)

Excellent food; not your typical bar food. The chef knows what's going on. Awesome house-made concoctions (mixed drinks) and flavorings. Service is always pleasant and reasonable. Definitely one of my top go-to bar/restaurants in Dover.

We had an amazing breakfast today! The food was outstanding, and I love that they source from local farms.
Superbly made cocktails, great environment and hands down one of the best burgers I've ever had. Alan Benton's bacon, 'nuff said.

Cocktail menu was great. Truffle fries were delicious. Short rib was tasty. Cobb salad was ok---chicken was a little off. Service was wonderful. We'll be back!
One of my favorite eaterys and go to places in dover for amazing cocktails! We go every couple of weeks and are never disappointed, the quality of the food never disappoints. They change up the menu and their new offerings are always inventive and super tasty, however my go to is the sonnys burger which I think is the best burger in dover, possibly the seacoast. Love the atmosphere and staff and I can't recommend sonnys enough!
Love it! Great waitstaff, food and happy hour can’t be beat!! One caveat though, the metal stools remind me of my high school biology classroom..🤦🏻 and are about as comfortable…
The burgers here are where it’s at. The drink list is long and inspired. They tend to be out of random things once in a while but it’s worth the trip for brunch or dinner for sure.

Went here for brunch, I would advise making a reservation for brunch but we got lucky and got a seat right when they opened at 10am. Food was amazing, cornbread served in a cast iron pan with a pepper jam. I had the chicken and biscuits with sausage gravy which was fantastic. The sausage gravy was perfect. My wife had the Monte Cristo eggs Benedict and was also great. Can't wait to go back and check out the bar area.
Early dinner - a beet burger and fish & chips. Yummy seasoned French fries. Everything was delicious. The service is friendly and on the mellow side (but prompt). Lovely place to eat out in downtown Dover.
