Review The Depot At Doolittles - DuBois

Zachary Steiner
We stopped at the Doolitle Depot on our way from Cleveland to NY. It was a cute little place that is made to look like a train station straight out of yesteryear. There is a small mini golf course that little children might enjoy. There was also a dinosaur museum that was closed when we were there so we were unable to explore it. The old trains that they have there are fascinating, assuming you’re a train fanatic. One of the trains was one that President Franklyn D. Roosevelt was on, and there is a picture of him on that train. One of trains is set up to look like a 50’s diner.

I don't get to go here very often, as I live quite far away. But when work gives me the opportunity to come here, I'm ecstatic! The experience of eating in the decomissioned rail cars is wonderful, and food is quite good. In addition, the whole of the Depot is a delightful spot of weirdness on an otherwise uneventful drive across the state. Seeing the Bigfoot and T-Rex out front really brings a smile to my face!

Hamburgers are delicious, I had the Breakfast Burger. Sundaes are a two person dessert. Rootbeer float was fantastic. Did I mention the Ice Cream is from the Penn State Creamery..... All in all was nice meal. Wish I could have tried the Box Car Brewery, literally a couple of box cars up. Will definitely be stopping back.

We ate at the parlor car for a New Year’s Eve chef tasting menu and it was all delicious! It took 3 hours for dinner so don’t be in a hurry. What a cool experience to eat on a historic train car.

I love his collection of different railcars. I randomly drive down from Buffalo, NY for a mini road trip just to hang out for a dinner. The Boxcar brewery is my favorite. You won't be disappointed. The only thing I wished the owner to do is light up the railroad signals around the property. Thanks for being open New Years Eve.

This is a fascinating place to visit. They're working hard to make it a premier spot. We didn't have time to eat, but the food and atmosphere look good.

The service is mediocre. The food is less than mediocre. I ordered a steak salad. I got six pieces of beef on my salad. The pieces were paper thin and an inch long. I'd be surprised if I had two ounces of meat. This is just one example of the terrible food. Plus, they have paper straws that disintegrate after three sips. They also have a very funky, very cheap artificial sweetener. In total, after about five visits I cannot find anything I like about this place.

Disappointed in the food! I was with a group of 10 adults for lunch on a Thursday. They were given 2 days notice of our group. We were in a historic gentlemen's car that had been beautifully restored. 5 stars for the dining area ambiance. The staff was very friendly. The menu selections looked very nice. Favorites are marked with a star. Our small group enjoyed conversation in the quaint surroundings and waited... The wait for food was longer than normal. A hostess shared with us the history of our car while we waited. I choose one of the recommended favorites, the Crab Po' Boy with macaroni salad as my side. The presentation was good. The food was a 1... a big disappointment! It was difficult to see the existence of crab meat as the dry shreds were overly breaded and deep fried too long. It covered less than half of the bun, but was fine with me as I did not want to eat a thin, dried portion that would have matched the size of the bun. The macaroni salad was bland. I observed the women across the table from me, as she pulled a plastic bread bag closure from her Reuben. (She received a 50% discount on her meal). The gentleman sitting beside me, ordered the Belgium waffle. It was to be 2, but because they only had 1, he was given extra bacon. His one, 3 or 4 inch, Belgium waffle could not be cut with a fork as the entire bottom was hard! The group commented, that he would need to stop on the way home and get something to eat. After the meal, i briefly strolled the beautiful area, enjoyed the displays....and went home to eat a quick bite of something. Will I try it again? Yes, but not more than that unless it is an ice cream cone outside.

very cool place and will be fun to hangout at in the summer. the pizza car was delicious, we will definitely order pizza again.... but the service was TERRIBLE. very unorganized staff whom were very unfriendly and non-helpful. they didn’t have any other “food” items besides the 50s themed fine dinning tonight - probably should be advertised better that you can only order from that menu and not the entire food menu.

This place is amazing! I have nothing bad to say about it. We were meeting up with family, and looking for a mid point. 2 vegetarians from NY and 2 meat eaters from PA, so I called ahead to see if they could accommodate everyone's food preferences. We ate in the Parlor Car, and the food was fantastic! I had the filet, which was perfect. And, my family members said it was the best veggie burger they had ever tasted! After dinner, we stopped by the Brew works car for a drink, and sat on the deck outside, just catching up. We would've loved to play mini golf but it was pouring out, so that'll be the plan for next time. We all loved how unique the place was, and everyone had a great time. Definitely worth traveling to!

We had dinner in the Parlor car for our anniversary. The food was incredible and the service was wonderful. We have eaten in the diner several times also and it is one of our favorite places to go.

This place is amazing! We ate in the 50s dining car and had the lobster bisque, which my sister said was the best she ever had and was loaded with lobster and I had the butternut squash bisque which was equally as good! We had the chopped salad and enjoyed them, as well. We took a tour of the 1913 parlor car which has a farm to table fresh menu - we browsed the menu and are anxious to go back & take our friends! we also want to try the train car which has the Penn State creamery ice cream and their hotdogs, which they acquired The recipe for Bailey's secret sauce!!

Three trips in five days says it all! Fish fry was excellent, service was top notch on 6/2. Ice cream trip Sunday was unbelievable! When my cone was handed out the window I thought it was a mistake! It was not they are just that big. Well I had the bring the hubby in for dinner. The information about the car we were invited to tour was awesome. Once again we had a wonderful time and a delicious fish sandwich. We tried the Penn State creamery ice cream and it was everything I anticipated and more! We will definitely return again soon.

I would have to say the worst experience ever! It was our first time . We waited 55 min+ , no food . The waitress gave my food to someone else. Then proceeds to tell they have no more buns and the guy they sent who knows how long he would be . So I tell just to bring my husbands food. She said my chicken and fries were already and I ask about bread. Yes they could do that . Thinking our food would be right out, contrare to my thoughts. She brought out another tables food whom had arrived 20 minutes after us. We got up and left. My husband made the decision to leave and he is the give everyone a chance person. There were only 4-tables of people around 1:15 is when we arrived.
