I believe this is a five star restaurant, definitely on the higher end of good food done well. Having said that and I'll add pictures in awhile, we went there on a fixed menu for Thanksgiving so they could have been short staffed in kitchen and dining room. I'm not familiar with normal dining pace but it took 3 hours and 15 minutes for 3 of us.....kind of on the long side. Huge lag between dinner and dessert. Pluses were the french onion soup which was exquisite. Also the duck wontons were amazing. The beef wellington was melt in your mouth but my turkey was overcooked and salty. The apple wellington was super bland but the ice cream was yummy. Bread was fresh and soft (but its bread so limited comments here). The cranberry sauce was perfect, the mashed potatoes were bland but the green beans were perfectly cooked. Waiter did a good job keeping drinks filled but again plates sat a bit long and pacing was off (this was kitchen not him). Will come again NOT on a fixed menu. Also gave a really cute cookie that was pretty yummy to us when we left. Charming restaurant overall. Great job guys.

My husband and I went here on a date here on a Monday evening. I would recommend making a reservation at least a week out, they do offer walk in seating as well. The atmosphere is lovely and relaxed. They offer mostly fish/seafood with one chicken and one steak option. The key lime pie was absolutely to die for!!

The food was really moist and filling. We got the crab stuffed shrimp with the asparagus and cornbread. It is more on the expensive side but it is definitely worth it. Definitely suggest going there for date night or special evening with a loved one(s).

One of our go-to places in the northern beaches. Intimate, great views, attentive servers. We’d been there many times before I actually tried the shrimp and grits. Normally a staid outer bank’s staple this was a smoky bbq inspired item that rang the bell for me. Brad insisted I pair it with a Malbec I never would have tried. What a combination! Great place!

Tried this place for the first time. Let me tell you that the food is awesome. Service was great and attentive. Get the iron skillet shrimp and grits. It was unreal. We will definitely add The Paper Canoe to our regular stops when coming to the OBX!!

We eat at a new restaurant every week. We have for the last twelve years. This place was on my "to do" list for at least ten years. With that build up, it would be easy to over hype it in my mind. That said, I had the best dining experience of my life! Our waiter was Milan. He chose the drinks, the meals, the wine, the desserts, without prompting. He was instrumental in this experience. He chose things I would never have picked on my own, and he chose some of my favorites. They all were phenomenal! It's been a couple weeks and I'm still excited when I think about the experience. Make reservations far in advance. I cannot wait to go back.

A pearl in a sea of mediocre restaurants in OBX. Our server Andrew was a pro and even gave us some local history and good stories. Food was awesome. Finally we found a good OBX restaurant!

Paper Canoe is the best restaurant in the Outer Banks bar none. We visit nearly every time we're in the area (10+ years of vacationing here) and we've never had bad food, drinks, or hospitality. The restaurant is perfectly quaint and cozy. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. And the food is some of the best my family has ever eaten. Seats in the bar area offer a picturesque view of sunsets over the Pamlico Sound. Order the shrimp and grits and a canoe 75, you won't regret it! Special thank you to the host staff and server, Brad, for another great evening at Paper Canoe. See you next year!

We sadly did not time our dinner for sunset, but even a bit past the prime sunset moments, the setting was stunning. Dinner was excellent- fresh and delicious. Our server spoke expertly about all the menu items and could offer suggestions based on our dietary needs. Typically restaurants at the beach seem overpriced and lackluster. The Paper Canoe is a definite exception!

Delicious main courses, very nice staff. Fresh Catch (not necessarily local) is wonderfully prepared. Shrimp and grits had a fabulous flavor but was very spicy which will delight heat lovers, but not non heat appreciators. Key lime nice but different than expected as is round. Lemon marsc was tasty but not exceptional. A must stop in the next time I come to OBX as one of the best. Sunset hot spot.

Get a reservation ahead of time. 5 star food, and 5 star service. Absolutely delicious. The shrimp and grits was the best we've ever had by far. Lovely cocktails. Staff is well informed and did a great job of helping us choose the best meal. Top tier food.

Always love dining at Paper Canoe! Only negative is that I wish they didn't let cars park in the back... makes it super hard to take pics of the SPECTACULAR sunsets without having cars in the pics.

I can’t recommend this place enough! Without hesitation they accommodated a reservation for 15 of us and had it all ready to go when we walked in! Our waiter, Blake, was amazing and the food was INCREDIBLE! Drinks came out quickly and the whole experience was just awesome. Thank you to the team for having us on our couples getaway weekend!

Update: 10-22-22 We went back for our 28th Anniversary. The food was awesome again. We shared a Key Lime dessert and Sebastian did it again. The sunset was beautiful my NY Strip was cooked to perfection, and the Asparagus was very tender. We will be back! We got there a little early and sit in the car and watched the rabbits. When we finally went in we had counted 7 rabbits. We love the wildlife around the outside. The view from the table was breath taking. We had the following items: The Grilled Romaine and the Crab dip. Both were very good. For dinner I had the Cast iron shrimp and grits it was delicious. My husband had the Wood oven roasted chicken. It was moist and very tasty. The son had a Bacon wrapped filet with the twice baked potato. He said, it was cooked just right. For dessert we had the homemade ice cream with an orange macaroon and a pastacio macaroon. Incredible! Loved the Creme Burlee. Will differently be going back again.

Came for dinner during our vacation. Made a reservation per the website suggestion. Food and service were top notch. Our server Milan was excellent. All his recommendations were spot on. The food was fresh and delicious. Service was great as the staff was very attentive to us. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The restaurant sits on the sound so if you go later the sunset should be around and make it that much better. Would absolutely recommend coming here and enjoying the food. Again shout out to Milan our sever who was amazing with his recommendations.

Incredible!!!! Some of the best fresh snapper i have ever had also... the salad with the lime dressing was outstanding... I also thought the tomato soup was some of the best I ever had. The sauce on the lobster ravioli was also another star of the show. The service was very quick, knowledgeable, and polite our server was awsome and recommended the fried oysters that turned out to be awsome also really the best restaurant in the outer banks that we have come across ... WE WILL BE BACK

You can't beat the ambiance of a high top, window table next to the bar. Beautiful sunset views, attentive service, and scrumptious food! The cheese ravioli with crab meat topping, and the stuffed shrimp can't be beat. Too bad we'll have to wait another year to visit again.

Excellent experience and amazing food. Travelled from Corolla to Duck for this reservation and it was worth the short drive. Best tomato soup ever, giant and delicious scallops.
