Our friends have followed Chef Omar for a while and finally invited us to join them for dinner at Epicurean Cafe Friday night. The service was friendly and very attentive. I had the roasted beet salad (best I've ever had - I judge a restaurant by their beet salad!) and steak (Delombre cut and better than any tenderloin you'll ever eat) and fries, my husband had the watermelon salad and their fish of the day, which he devoured. All served hot, fresh, beautifully presented and incredibly delicious. I highly recommend dining here. My only question is why our best friends have been hiding this local gem from us for so long?

We are here tonight and had a fabulous experience. The owner was warm and welcoming upon our arrival. We were seated on the patio overlooking the fountain. We had the Caesar salad and the smoked Gouda was incredible. They have a nice beer and wine menu and other unique drinks. The hidden crush Cabernet was great! Our entrees were the shrimp and grits, the steak and fries, and the duck confi pasta and every entree was delicious, and cooked to order with fresh ingredients. Our waiter was attentive and friendly (I apologize, I don't remember his name). We had a wonderful experience and will be back. A very casual place to entertain and enjoy fine dining. Feels like home.

Copied and pasted my review from Yelp below: 5 stars is high, but let me preface it by saying that this is relative to the northern suburb OTP area. The quality of food and level of attention provided by Epicurean is a rare unicorn in the Duluth area, and I am glad to have it as an option now when I go see the folks up in the 'burbs. First review of 2016--let's go! Location: This restaurant is located immediately to the right of Steverino's Pizza in the newly revitalized Downtown Duluth area (3117 Main St, Duluth, GA NOT 2650 Olde Town Pkwy). The area has so much historic charm and a lot of unique stores to window shop around. Just a word of warning, they barely have any signage so look to the right of Steverino's; the charming patio with the french doors is where you want to point your toes. Ambiance: The brick patio and french doors are immediately inviting. Inside, the restaurant is cozy (borderline snug--might bump a few neighbors on the way to the restroom) and dimly lit by candlelight. Brick walls mixed with reclaimed wood accents give the restaurant a warm feel. Service: So I made reservations here for Mama C's birthday. The address on Yelp sent us on a wild goose chase, but the woman on the phone was patient and very apologetic about the whole confusing mess. Long story short, we got there. The woman who greeted us at the door also turned out to be our server, and she was so sweet and accommodating with helping out with the cake and giving recommendations. The chef came out to individually greet each table and take the time to thank us for choosing to dine with Epicurean. Nothing to complain about here! Food: My dad is so picky. And when I say picky, I mean like he thinks Korean food is the only viable food option. He will go to Peru and try to find a Korean restaurant because that is all the man wants! But this place passed the Papa C test. We ordered and ate semi-family style: Appetizer- cheese platter (Cheeeese please--how could I RESIST?!); Verdict: the cheese plate was smaller than expected, but it was definitely worth it. Served with a side of maduros, cracked black peppercorn, and either honey or some type of jam (this is where the bottle of wine fuzzes my memory). Each cheese was delicious and paired so well with the little accompaniments they had given with the platter. Dipping cheese in cracked pepper--who knew? Gonna use some of their ideas in my next wine and cheese night. Small Plates - Asian Chicken w/ broken sticky rice, Shrimp "curry" with grits; Verdict: Of the two, the Shrimp Curry got the most nods. This was a playful twist on the classic Southern Shrimp & Grits. I am a sucker for all things grits, and Epicurean's take on this dish was quite impressive. The Asian Chicken was good as well. The broken sticky rice, we all agreed, was like Korean "jook" or Chinese "congee." The chicken was a bit on the sweet side, but not tooooo sweet. Entrees- Angus Steak, Roasted Game Hen with butternut jus & spaghetti squash, Salmon, & the special Pompano fish entree. Verdict: Steak steak steak steak steak! Papa C compared this steak to the steak he's eaten in New Zealand. Wouldn't know what that tastes like since he didn't bring me on his Aussie/NZ adventures, but now I can pretend like I was there. Honestly, all of the entrees were cooked perfectly. We loved it all. Just ask my cousins who, I think, literally licked their plates. Not a single speck of sauce left after all was said and done. Overall, the wine was great, the food was great, service was great and my mom had a great name day. I will be back!

I will admit that I consider myself a food snob. Epicurean Cafe blew me away. Brian, our server, was friendly, informative, and provided excellent service. My father and his girlfriend had the kale and garbanzo bean salad while my spouse and I started with the cauliflower soup. Entrees included fried green tomato + pimento cheese sandwiches, dill chicken salad sandwich, and curry shrimp and grits. All were delicious. At the end of our meal, Andrew, the owner, came out to check on us. We told him of our wonderful experience and how he will definitely be seeing us again. Thank you all for such a memorable dining experience.

This is how you restaurant, people. Chef Omar Powell is not only creating an amazing cultural blend on the plate; he is creating a sense of pride and unity in his charming neighborhood in Duluth, Ga. Everything we ate was just ridiculously good; every ingredient being meticulously prepared to create excellence on both the plate and palate. But what shined most of all, was the charm and kindness of the entire staff, including the kitchen, that is simply and obviously influenced by the passion of their leaders. Well done my friends.

★★★★★ a month ago We celebrated a milestone birthday on Saturday with 21 family members. The evening started with cocktails in the charming seating area of the enclosed front porch of this beautiful historic home. We then proceeded to our private dining area that was arranged perfectly for our group which included 4 children under 8 years old. Our servers were attentive to all of our needs and the food was mouth watering fantastic! We felt so comfortable that it almost felt as if we were dining at a friend's home. It is apparent that Yana Lee-Fong and Chef Omar Powell know exactly how create great food and a welcoming atmosphere so that their guests feel valued.

How did I not know about them gem before?!?! First of all, the restaurant itself is beautiful! You definitely feel like you are at home when you walk in the door. Gigi was our server and by the end of my meal, I felt like we WERE family! She was so sweet!! And can we talk about the food?? I ordered the lunch special and let me just tell you...the curry chicken salad was out of this world. My friend and I shared the bread pudding and there are no words to describe how amazing it was! Everything on the menu looked delicious. I can't wait to come back again!! :-)

Quaint, unique, so much character in this place! We were taken aback totally. Not expecting it all... Whoa! From the outside you can’t really tell, but this was an older Georgian house that has been converted into this fantastic cafe. The food is just as surprising as it is unique. I can’t recommend this place enough. Great service, great atmosphere, delicious food..! The works. A must come experience

Such A charming place in the heart of Downtown Duluth. Todd was our server and he was nothing short of fantastic. The food was spectacular. If you go, the bread pudding is a must try. We shared one serving among 4 of us for dessert and it was A M A Z I N G. I didn't think I'd be a fan of it for to childhood memories regarding the texture however this was the perfect consistency. Oh and I cannot forget the potato soup! ❤️ We will definitely go back soon.

This place is super cozy and cute, old house, old hardwood floors that creek. It looks like you're home for dinner. The hostess was super attentive and we decided to sit at the bar which was the covered porch of the house, soooo adorable! Windows everywhere gave us an awesome view of the street. The wine was good although I suggest chilling them a bit,in the summer especially I couldn't sit and drink it that warm especially if I sit outside. The lighting was a bit too dark and the music was a whisper which makes fur a sleepy bar, that is why we left to find a bit more life in a place. The wait staff was very friendly, great service, hope you chill that wine and work on ambiance and we could be regulars.

Not bad. The fish was cod but some parts of it had a lobster/shrimp texture which was fine. The fries weren't anything special. The seasoning on top was cosmetic in my opinion. Liked the cole slaw, it wasn't just drenched in mayonnaise. The hummus, tzatziki sauce and pimento cheese appetizer was great. The way the pita bread was seasond and toasted just right was amazing. Others at the table got a soup and spoke very highly of it. Definitely worth a try, and I'll go back again so my wife can try. I recommend going for lunch since it's very busy for dinner.

Omg can I tell you the food surpassed my expectations! I had the pan smeared salmon with shrimp and bak choy. Chef Omar totally out did himself. Our waiter was Todd his service was excellent also. He's Very attentive and he interacted with us very well. We were visiting from Florida so this is our first time here in Atlanta. If you ever need a cozy ,sophisticated, private place to dine. This is the spot. And let me tell you the scenery is to talk about we sat outside, the breeze and the ambiance was everything. I will definitely be back here on my next trip to the Atl. Thanks again chef Omar.
