Wonderful Fried Chicken. If it was called Mutt's Fried Chicken, I'd be slightly more impressed with their BBQ. The BBQ is okay, but it's a good thing that they do well in other areas, as I would never return for the BBQ. It's not very moist, not smoked, and not otherwise flavorful. The sauces are also greatly underwhelming and they did not offer the vinegar-based sauce that many of us in the region love, nor a spicy option. They ARE better than Little Pig's, but pork bitten straight off of the running pig complete with resultant trichinosis is perhaps better than Little Pig's recycled-newspaper-type BBQ in my opinion, so that's not really saying a whole lot.
The ribs are decent, but would be better if they had been rubbed before cooking or seasoned in SOME way. It seems like they ration their salt. The ribs are very tender, fairly moist, and their exterior has a nice pleasant Maillard reaction finish, but that is all I can say about them.
The slaw was decent, but not quite right in a way I can't describe; the green beans were okay, but a little bitter; and the macaroni salad was actually really nice, containing freshly chopped tomatoes. I found it hard to get much, as people had spilled slaw and beans into it and I wasn't really looking to get a mash-up of the entire buffet in a single spoon.
The macaroni and cheese was tasty--cheesy, creamy, and moist. The pasta was a little over-done.
My father-in-law told me that the rice and hash was really good and had a little bit of kick to it. I wanted to try it, but I was too full from fried chicken.
Which leads me to the first reason that you should visit. The fried chicken is excellent. Just perfect. I wouldn't say it was better than Walhalla Steak House's fried chicken, but maybe just as good in it's own more traditional Southern way. Crispy and savory skin over juicy, tender, and flavorful meat that you just can't stop eating. I knew as soon as I laid eyes on it that fried chicken was going to be my main course.
Reason two for visiting is their delicious banana pudding and sweet potato casserole with its crispy brown sugar and pecan topping.
And reason three: they have a choice of ice cream bars in a little cooler. You might say I'm too old, but I had a push-pop. And enjoyed every second.
45 minutes later (according to Uncle-in-law), my Father-in-law stopped eating. He liked everything more than I did and certainly showed it. Not sure how he fit three plates, a couple glasses of tea, several bowls of other sides, plus desserts and coffee. I think he must have tried every single thing on the buffet.
A few more things: the ambiance was nice, the seating very comfortable, and the servers very friendly and helpful.
Very good BBQ buffet. Rid are excellent, pulled pork is very good as is Brunswick stew. Popcorn shrimp nightly as are an assortment of veggies. Dessert and drink are included in the price. A very good value and good food.
Good BBQ on a well stocked buffet.
Best bbq buffet. I just moved from south carolina to st. petersburg florida, and the one thing I miss is mutts bbq. The ribs are excellent, especially considering it is a buffet style place.
The best buffet I've been to in a long time. Food taste great! A lot of choices. Well managed resturant!
"The BBQ Buffet". The Easley Mutts has a great buffet. Thursdays, I believe, they have a smoked chicken, it is so good. Just wish it was available more often. They really make an effort to keep things on the bar fresh. they have the bestsweet potato crunch around, including single serve places. If I can fault them on anything, it has to be that the coleslaw is straight from a box, but is still very good for boxed. With how good everything else is, I do think they could have a great homemade slaw.
We come here for Barbecue. We like coming here from time to time y’all will love it to just don’t come at closing time. Good desserts ice cream Banana pudding strawberry shortcake Oreo pudding peach cobbler cookies fruit cocktail I am Pepsi products sweet tea unsweet.
Always love the great barbecue, hush puppies, and sweet potato casserol! Our favorite place for barbecue in the upstate!
The staff today was super friendly. They were helpful, polite, and all had smiles on their faces. It was nice to be greeted this way and at the buffet again another employee with a beautiful smile on her face. It was very welcoming. After getting our food, we went and sat down. I didn't see tarter sauce but wanted it and didn't mention it. I was approached by the lovely lady from the buffet and she took notice that I choose fish, she asked me if I wanted tartar sauce. I was thrilled sje took that initiative! She brought me some and we enjoyed our meal. I was a little skeptical on the fish... I couldn't tell if it was cooked through in some areas. So I put it to the side and I enjoyed the ribs, potato salad and fried okra the most. I also liked the hush puppies. I typically don't like hush puppies but these were good. We had a wonderful lunch and I would go back again. Just as we were welcomed when we came, we were told to have a blessed day as we left with a wave and a smile and it was absolutely appreciated. We hope to stop in again soon.
