A nicer spot for some decent food. Notably, we went during the summer months, outside the standard school year. It was very easy to get in and the service was great. Their interior space is dark and calming while the exterior patio has some great outdoor seating. Our meals felt somewhat standard for the price, but they were delicious nonetheless.
Love the food. Servers are friendly. Location is convenient
The Black Cat has a Bistro/Tavern type atmosphere. Available seating is inside or outside weather permitting. The food is excellent. Our waitress was exceptional and the experience was fun and relaxing.

Black Cat Bistro was wonderful! Everyone at my table LOVED their food. The food arrived fast and our waitress was fantastic. We sat outside on the patio and it was perfect! The location was great. Sitting outside was relaxing. We were not annoyed with a lot of noise and traffic. I highly recommend it.
Overall, the food was really good and the service was ok. I ordered a harvest salad, which was supposed to have red onions...it had white onions(which i don't like), so I picked them off and the salad was great. The lemon maple dressing was amazing. Creamy tomato basil soup was very good but not very hot. I loved the cheese sauce on the potatoe skins, but they were a little skimpy with the bacon. I would come back if I'm in the area.
I stumbled upon the Black Cat Bistro just in time to enjoy their brunch. The outside seating is pleasant, being shaded and partially surrounded by trees and a variety of plants. The staff is friendly and was very attentive. The prices were reasonable, ranging from $8.00-$18.00 for most of their breakfast items.
The eggs Benedict dish pictured was very well done, and I also appreciated the uniqueness of it being paired with salmon cakes. The Bloody Mary seemed very popular, so I ordered one to give it a try. I opted for the Classic Bloody Mary, and it did not disappoint. If you like yours on the spicy side (like I do) you might want to ask for it to be extra spicy. We topped the meal off with one of their cinnamon rolls, which proved to be a great decision as well.
We will definitely be returning.
Pleasant atmosphere, nice waitress. Ordered the Croque Madame and it was delicious. Also ordered their cornbread...it was sweet (reminded me of cake) but the combo played out well as I had both sweet and savory for brunch. Prices are a little higher than the average restaurant but I came here for a special occasion so it was a nice treat.
when you go in, don’t forget to ask for the house honey mustard. the chef has a line of his own sauces he made himself- and i consider myself lucky to have asked for some with my fries.
he even sells the sauces by mason jar- you seriously need to stop in for his sauces alone.
my boyfriend and i are coming back to try more of his sauces, which will be on their BBQ wings as well. excited to try!!!
FANTASTIC! Loved the atmosphere, FOOD, waitress Allysa great!! Ha! And loved the black cat logo on the glasses. Easy going place. Caprese tower great buy house salad AMAZINGLY GOID! Artisanal breads wonderful- my gosh the “cornbread “ tasted like cake and would be good for dessert, and French bread also good. I asked for salmon done with the tuna : pineapple salsa, sweet potatoes, asparagus and salmon INCREDIBLY GOOD. Husband had the Black Cat burger w egg on top, fabulous potato/ sweet potato fries. A plus!
Sunday brunch. Not a lot of options but good choices. I got the breakfast burrito. I would have liked salsa with this. Not an option. Had a good flavor. I wanted it a little spicier.
Omelettes were huge. No toast. Guess people don't need/want toast. French toast had a great flavor. Chocolate pancake was huge!
Walking into the restaurant, there were smells that were not creating a positive experience.
We would come back.
As soon as we arrived in East Lansing, my brother insisted that we go here. Every 5 minutes he would ask us if we ate and if we tried the Black Cat Bistro.
My brother is a foodie and he knows his stuff but he never badgered me about a spot before. He ended up treating us. It was well worth it.
The menu is not overwhelming and easy to get through. They have variety of food for the most pickiest of palates. The staff are great. Food comes at the proper times. The drinks are also good (we like them strong).
The experience was great. When I return to East Lansing, we will eat there again with the entire family.
Pricier place in East Lansing compared to many other local restaurants, but I'd say worth it. Really enjoyed the atmosphere here. My salmon was delicious. My boyfriend said his chicken was well seasoned but dry. The bruschetta was amazing. The razzmatazz sangria was just okay. Nothing to write home about. Would definitely recommend giving this place a try at least once.
Hidden gem in East Lansing. Such a classy atmosphere, insanely incredible food, staff is great, especially Emma. The tomato soup is to die for! Great wine too ☺
