A charming restaurant tucked away in the heart of Edgartown in Martha Vineyard. The food was prepared wonderfully, friendly service and comfortable atmosphere. The subtle flavors of the fresh seafood, crabs and lobsters were delicious. The potato roll was a favorite of our daughters as well as the halibut. The deconstructed s’mores was also a hit,
If you’re in Martha’s Vineyard, make sure to make a desert and enjoy

My friend and I had the most wonderful dinner. It was ‘opening for the season night’ at Detente, and they hit it right off the bat. The food was incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed my cauliflower appetizer and my halibut. Lucian was an impeccable waiter - so nice and attentive. Perfect night.

Established Martha’s Vineyard eatery. We sat at the bar where we enjoyed excellent service, delicious eats and relaxed yet elegant vibes. The lamb chops were tender and juicy, halibut was fresh and flaky. The appetizers were delicious! Large portions, fair prices.
Détente Restaurant was one of the places recommended by the Inn we were staying at. While walking around town, we found this restaurant hidden on a quiet street, Winter St. We made reservations for that night. Indoor and outdoor seating are available. For those that wished to eat outdoors, they had a canopy/ canvas covering to keep the rain out as the weather was a little inclement the week we visited the island. We opted for indoor dining. Lots of Wine options, only 4 drink cocktails and various beer options are available. We had a scallop appetizer followed by the main meal, Pork Chop for my husband and Crusted Cod fish for me. Both were excellent and the flavors, seasonings, and sauces were superb. This was one of the only restaurants on this island that served coffee which my husband appreciated. For dessert, we shared the chocolate torte that came with cherries and ice cream. Servers all wore masks. Excellent service by Miona. Nice quiet restaurant. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Absolutely amazing restaurant!
First off the service is the absolute best. We came here this past Tues for dinner. We had made a reservation online for indoor seating. Unfortunately there was a wait and we had to wait about 1hr to get a table. The hostess was very apologetic in having us wait but made us comfortable at the bar being it was a very chilly night.
At the bar, the gentleman working was very nice. He had great recommendations for food and drinks and was over all very friendly.
When we did get our table our food came pretty quickly. For starters we ordered the pork bolognese as well as the Spanish octopus. Both dishes were well prepared and tasted great. You won't be disappointed.
For dinner we had the roasted halibut as well as the lamb rack. Again nothing short of amazing. The lamb was cooked perfectly and was so tender. Our server also threw in 2 additional sides because of the long wait time which we greatly appreciated. The service here is outstanding and they do care greatly for their patrons. Be sure to check them out if you are out in martha's vineyard!
Excellent meal shared with family! Everything was cooked perfectly. We had grilled octopus, burrata salad, scallops, lamb, venison and bass. For dessert bread pudding and coconut cake!
Probably my favorite restaurant on the entire island, we've been going to Detente for years now and their consistency and creativity is incredible! And I like to remind people - it's not just for fancy date nights and birthdays, it's really an any night kind of place. Sit at the bar and have a cocktail/mocktail and a dessert kind of place; grab a table outdoors and have a full feast kind of place. The staff is incredibly welcoming - it's also a place you don't have to be dressed up to dine at, they are so welcoming like I said.
The food, created in one of the smallest kitchens I've ever seen, is the stuff dreams are made of. No joke, from the freshly baked potato bread and ricotta spread with local sea salt, to the fried cornbread starter to the salmon entree and the panna cotta desserts, nothing disappoints. It's elevated food that's not to "prissy", it's food that has so much flavor and color that it makes you happy when it comes to the table.
1000% recommend Detente when you're on Martha's Vineyard. It's a hidden gem in Edgartown and a must eat when in town!
Tonight was an incredible dinner and the best restaurant on the island ! Our waitress was outstanding and so sweet with our baby. The food and drinks are truly 5 stars and I can’t say enough amazing things about this restaurant- just go!
Proper foodie place. Everything well thought out and the service was top notch.
Food was pretty good here! Nice ambience outside but there was some mosquitos. Just bring your bug spray if you sit outside! They bring bread to the table free so maybe don’t order the cornbread as well.. even tho it was pretty good lol
Best meal we had in Edgartown though we had many excellent dining experiences.. We loved this place. The food was just excellent and the service was impeccable and personal also. Eat here if you can!
Enjoyed our wedding anniversary at Detente. The best pork chop and chicken we ever had. The chef is a genius.
I've been twice now and could not be more impressed with this place. The food has been phenomenal: both creative and perfectly executed. They also clearly make an effort to use locally sourced ingredients when possible.
The second time there, they were clearly backed up and the service was on the slow side. While we really didn't mind, our waiter was very attentive and apologetic about the matter, and the kitchen sent us out additional appetizers (on the house) while we waited for our mains.

Highly recommend you visit Detente on your visit to Martha’s Vineyard. Our server was charming and very attentive (I forget his name he had a bit of an accent though). The menu changes often I guess, but everything our party got was fantastic. You can’t go wrong. I really liked the salmon special they had, the cod, and beef tenderloin. Scallops were great wish the portion had been bigger though. One of the best restaurants I’ve been to!
Excellent food. Comfortable seating upstairs.
Wait staff couldn't have been more attentive.
A favorite of ours for years. Consistently imaginative and flavorful cooking. Fine wine list. Truly professional service.
Excellent meal! Terrific bartender as well. We started with the beet salad, delicious. Then we had the Bolognese with homemade pasta, perfectly cooked. The monkfish dish was nice, my husband is more of a fan than I am of monkfish but they did a great job. They served it with spring rolls that were packed with lobster meat. We had the cauliflower on the side, perfect dish, may be my favorite of the night.
