We got here an hour before closing on a Sunday after climbing Mt. lily. They were very friendly, fast, and the restaurant was very clean. The food was delicious. Definitely would eat here again
We are Originally from Louisiana and just spent 5 years in WA state which has some of the blandest food in the country. As we came back south we were hoping to find what we call Tex-Mex. As we took our first bites our eyes got huge and we both said Tex-Mex!
Food was amazing, service excellent, what else can you ask for?
Best Mexican food I’ve had outside New Mexico/Arizona. To be clear, we are spoiled by many visits to New Mexico, so can be hard to please when it comes to Mexican food.
I got two Enchiladas (one with red sauce, one with green) and one Chili Relleno, and they were all very good, especially the Chili Relleno. Next time I’d order two Chili Relleno and one Enchilada with red sauce.
My wife got two chicken enchiladas with red sauce and a bean tostada, and she rated the meal 3.5 out of 5.
It’s worth noting that the refried beans were very good. Seems most restaurants don’t try very hard on the beans, and they tend to be bland. These beans were very nicely spiced and were quite tasty with the rice.
The complimentary chips and salsa were a high point. I’ve never had salsa as heavily spiced as this. You can taste the cumin in the salsa. Very unique.
Service was very good. We were eating less than five minutes after ordering, and our waiter was friendly and attentive.
We both agreed it was really good for Colorado Mexican. Not as good as New Mexico standards, but much better than anything we can find in Florida.
We spent a few days in Estes and wanted some good authentic Mexican food. DO NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE! This place was exactly what we were looking for! Great friendly service, food was off the charts and prices were extremely reasonable! Do not judge a book by its cover…the building doesn’t look great, very basic and plain. We could tell immediately we were sitting with locals and not tourists. If you like Mexican, do not pass up this opportunity!
Best old school Mexican restaurant in Estes Park. The service is on point call ahead orders are brought out fast, definitely recommend by a Native Coloradoan Hispanic ❤️😎🇺🇸
I’m from South Texas and I have eaten lots of authentic Mexican food, but the food here is outstanding! I was VERY impressed! WOW! The spices that they use are unlike anything that I have tasted anywhere else. I would highly recommend it. It’s well worth the prices.
Most places in Estes Parks are a tourist trap with over priced meals however Mex-Kal is different! The food is reasonably priced and has amazing flavor. For those who love eating healthy I recommend ordering the pollo azado burrito. The green salsa carries an authentic Mexican flavor that I loved. The Mexican burrito with shredded beef is great too! Lastly, the service is very kind and accommodating. This place was worth the wait/money!
