This is my favorite restaurant in Eugene. I always start my visit with an order of Saganaki, a delicious cheese fried in olive oil and served with a hearty whole grain bread. My favorite dinner it the Kotta Psiti, a Greek roasted chicken in lemon served with delicious roasted potatoes. Yum.
Earthy charm...... It's dining room is narrow and deep. Massive natural wood pillars, beams and cross members give it a rustic appeal. Indian tapestries adorn the walls.
When asked how long Poppi's has been here, our server said; "Over thirty years at this location." It boasts “Traditional Greek and Indian Food”.
One of the specials of the day was a Shrimp dish with Red Sauce over Basmati Rice and a lovely Salad of Greens, Cucumbers, Bell Peppers, Onions and Kalamata Olives. This sounded good to brother Kelly. From the menu I picked Vindaloo Chicken Curry with was billed as "very hot and tangy Chicken Curry with Potatoes" It also came with Basmati Rice and a dish of Chutneys. The Curry was a deliciously fiery concoction of Dried Red Chilis, Bay Leaf, a whole Cinnamon Stick, Cardamom Seed Pods and several unrecognizable Herbs and Spices. The Chicken was a hind quarter (leg, thigh and back). We washed it all down with a shared Marathon Greek Lager. (Eugene city water is nasty!) The only criticism either of us had was that the Rice had rested too long in a warmer and some of the Grains were dry, hard and stuck together. Apart from that, it was and excellent meal.
The service was friendly but business-like.
Would we return? You bet!
Great food. The gyros are delicious and reasonably priced and the service - albeit spotty - is usually good.
Love it. Stumbled upon this joint when we visited Eugene last September. We definitely want to return. The coffee was excellent and our lunch was also very good. Overall, we found it to be a very charming and tasty boutique restaurant!
The sag baggi & Bombay aloo with a side of yogurt are delicious for the past twenty years that I've been going. You need the side of yogurt for the extreme yummy spiciness of the potatoes. Intimate tables add to the enjoyment!
Consistent, nice. Doesn't change, year in, year out. And that's a good thing.
Yet another hippie-vibe restaurant for me to crush. But wait! What is this I see?! Clean tables, quality materials, well-decorated, table service, a first-rate menu with dishes suitable for adults with no fear of fragrant spices?!
