Very knowledgeable and interactive bar staff. The fried bologna is the best around. I love this place.
I visited the Gerst Haus for the first time this past Monday. Enjoyed the atmosphere full of hardwoods and nostalgia. The wiener schnitzel, glazed carrots and German fried potatoes were served promptly and piping hot. The mild rye bread was also delish. What I may have enjoyed most was my fish bowl of Paulaner bier. They had a very jive selection of German geers, Haus beer and some local microbrewery choices. Definitely worth and stop.
Best German food I've had. Great beer selection, and friendly staff. Tuesday's are particularly good, 3$ pint night on plenty of great craft beers.
Just like some one told me.... if you visit here for business or pleasure and you don't eat here then you would have missed out on one of the best places in town. Awesome selection of beer and excellent food.
Every meal I've had there has been amazing. And the beer selection is fab. Love the rotating beer offerings. Friendly people, good food, in a cool historical building.
Always a great experience! My daughter had the Wiener Schnitzel... cleaned her plate. I had the ribs and chicken combo. I can not say enough good things about those ribs.
Great selection of sides, that are equally yummy.
Great service and great food. One of the best Ruben sandwiches I’ve ever had. The warm German potato salad is great too.
Had a wonderful time at Gerst Haus. Came into town and had dinner at a friend's recommendation. Service was top notch! Our food was out of this world! kraut balls very good. Vegetable of the day, sliced tomatoes
looked fresh out of the garden. I can't wait to go back and eat there again.
Loved the kraut balls and red cabbage. The server was very friendly and the service was excellent! Can’t wait to try something else!
Great spot for dinner! They have German and American food available and tons of beer on tap. The staff was super friendly and fun to be around. We ordered the bacon charbroiled chicken sandwich, kielbase dinner, and fried chicken tenders. They were all delicious! We also ended up ordering a brownie and German chocolate cake. Definitely recommend this spot!
I visited Gerst Bavarian Haus to try authentic Evansville food. It was SO good! I keep dreaming about the giant, soft, salty, warm pretzel with cheesy-tomato-beef dip. I love simple house salads with ranch - theirs did not disappoint. The cucumber and onion side dish was awesome, and the kielbasa was amazing. I was delighted to see a Malbec on the menu, which was excellent. We were helped quickly by a friendly server. I'm not from this area but will absolutely be visiting if I am ever in town again!
I don’t even know where to begin. This is hands down the best German place I’ve tried in a while. The pretzel is humungous!! It definitely can feed 4 dudes! Last night I had the Beef stroganoff and some German beer to wash it down. Best I’ve ever had. Everything from this place was delicious. And I’m definitely coming back for more. I might even get a t-shirt next time.
Hands down the coolest German restaurant/bar!! The kraut balls were nice and settle but the beef stroganoff was to die for!! Huge selection of beer. Great homemade food. We will definitely come back!! Maybe even tonight :-)
Yeah. This place definitely is one of the top stops in Evansville. Its been around since 1890 for a reason! Interior is interesting, and well decorated. Big bar with plenty of selection. Very happy with the staff- great recommendations on drinks and food. Super helpful and quite nice. Decent selection of scotch, wine, drinks, and of course beer! We tried the pig knuckle for the appetizer, and were not dissapointed. Sauerbraten with sauerkraut was great, as was the sampler meal. I tried the pork chop, bratwurst and stroganoff (these were the recommended local dishes). All were tasty. I'd suggest the stroganoff to anyone who appreciates big chunks of meat and whole mushrooms. Red cabbage (awesome) and baked potatoes for sides. Almost everything was served with a couple slices of rye. No room for dessert, but will return. Prices were reasonable, especially for the amount and quality of food.
Ordered the sausage sampler, which included knackwurst, bratwurst, kielbasa, and smoked "mett.” Also sampled the hot German potato salad and the white beans. Everything was fabulous, including the house-made mustard.
LOVE! Such fantastic food and atmosphere. Our server was friendly and recommendations were solid. The sausage appetizer with German potato salad and sauerkraut was SO YUMMY, as was the fried Bologna. The only negative was soggy rye bread (side leaked and the bread was sitting in it).
This is a great local German brew haus style restaurant serving some great food, friendly staff and great brew and cider served in an freezer iced fish bowl. We discovered this place while in town for the week on business and are so glad we did. Whether you are a traveler or a local this place is worth your time and your money. Reasonably priced all around and is a short drive from any of the downtown hotels.
