Reviews Philly Grill

This is review of the new Philly Grill next to Schnucks on the north side on Rt. 41. Being Philly transplants, we have long been skeptical of anything purporting to be Philly-this or Philly-that outside of the Philadelphia area. We approached tonight's dinner there with low expectations and only a very thin ray of hope. The bottom line is this: the steak sandwiches are small by Philly standards, but they are the Real Deal - including the Amoroso's roll (the only legitimate roll for a Philly steak or cheesesteak sandwich). The flavor is precisely correct. We, of course, had the sandwich with sweet peppers and raw chopped onions (standard). Also, we added cheese (Provolone), the only acceptable alternative to the original Cheese Whiz. Their sandwiches come in 6" or 9" sizes. Twelve inches is standard in Philly, but for those of us trying watch our portion sizes, the six inch size is quite adequate. While 'twice the meat' is an option, it is not necessary. I give them a 90% (A) on the steak sandwich. For comparison, Subway gets an F-. We also tried a 6" Hoagie. They earned a "B" on the Hoagie for "Better than Subway" but still short of what one gets back home. Regardless, it is still just about the best Hoagie in these parts and also comes on an Amoroso roll. I would mark them down a little for selling Nathan's Hotdogs (a NYC treat, not a Philly treat) and for not offering Tastykake Krimpets or real Philly soft pretzels, but those are minor refinements they can easily make. Oh, they also offered to grill the hoagie. That is a Philly no-no! Yo! Stop that, guys! Hoagies are cold cut sandwiches!

Excellent quality and service. Variety of food is great as well (I love the wings and fresh brewed iced tea). Contrary to some of the other posts, I think the portion sizes are relative to the price..........i've never left here hungry. However, if you want to save some money, the lunch specials and weekly deals are fantastic.

I eat out at least 4 times a week and this will be a regular from now on. The Philly cheesesteak was awesome!! The fried mushrooms are the best I have had in Evansville. Great price for the quality. Clean and very friendly can't wait to try everything on the menu

First time here and we'll be back. Clean place, friendly and patient staff while people asked questions. The cheese steak was very good and moist. Had it with mushrooms, grilled onions and sweet peppers and provolone. Added some banana peppers to to it off. Crinkle fries were good as well. Great lunch!

I am from Philly. This is the real deal. This is like home away from Home. But for those who have never had a real Philly Cheese Steak, no one in Philadelphia put mayonnaise on a steak sandwich. Use Ketchup to get the full experience.

Had a great meal at this restaurant that is new to the tristate. The chopped ribeye beef filling liberally topped with sauteed onions and green peppers was nicely seasoned. Almost missed the melted cheddar I requested since it was put on the bread first. Asked for and got a small cup of the melted cheddar to drizzle on top. Lip smackin'. Speaking of the bread, the bun was very distinctive and really 'made' the sandwich. Had a dinner side salad which was nothing to write home about with the exception of the balsamic dressing which was remarkable. Itchin' to get back to try the cheeseburger and the gyros.

The food was incredibly good. I had a cheese steak with the melted cheddar cheese, sauteed onions, and I put the hots in it. I was very impressed with the menu and the cleanliness of the restaurant. I even had a chance to speak with the owner. She was very nice and made sure I had everything I needed. I'll definitely be returning.

Can't come any closer to a authentic Philly cheesesteak. Cheese whiz as a option would set it off. Great portions of meat and a nice choice of toppings to choose from. As far as sides, I only had the fries which were phenomenal. I'll definitely be returning at least twice a month.

Sunset Crews is a lot of fun. Line is long at the bar so buy two while you're there!

Here's my review. The Philly cheesesteak was delicious. It's served on a hoagie bun that is soft with light toasting. The crinkle fries, sorry Shaun, were cooked well and not greasy. I also ordered fried mushrooms. They aren't like Frontier's or Rockport gas station, but still good. They were crispy and fried well. The horseradish sauce that came with it was good and not over powering. I came mid afternoon pretty quiet in here. Tea was fresh. They have tvs but no sound. It would be a good place to come and eat with a date and be able to talk and hear each other. Thumbs up from me.

I went to this philly resteraunt as (1) there isn't many philly specialty shops around here and (2) it was near where I had other errands going on. It was an impulse takeout order. I got the classic philly along with some loaded cheese fries. I really like their presentation and look of both the fries and the sandwich. However, unfortunately for me it didn't have the classic east coast philly taste that I have had before. All the ingredients were the same, but something tasted different about them and I am not sure why. It wasn't bad but it wasn't the best I have had either, though it was up there. I would rate it around a 7/10 for both the fries and the sandwich. The service was fast, and the workers were super friendly. They all were very safe and wearing all proper safety ppe as needed during this time. I ordered online and walked in about 10 minutes later and my food was ready so really appreciate all of that. If I am in the area again, I would get it again as I like to support smaller local chains than the big ones, and it's nice to have that as an option in the Darmstadt area as their isn't many resteraunts in that area to begin with. Great location, great staff, speedy service, just a little lacking in flavor for my taste.

Hands down best philly outside the east coast. The flavor is definitely there with this one, first thing you gonna notice is the steamy juice drip that is hot off the grill. No outta flavors it all blends well with excellent marinade back drop on the shredded Ribeye. I went with the melted cheddar and didn't look back. The fries were fresh an typical crinkle cuts. Id definitely try it again

Best Philly outside of PA! My husband is from Reading, and we have a favorite sandwich shop there. He also lived in South Philly for awhile, so he knows his cheese steaks. The Philly Grill's cheese steaks are very similar in taste and the bread is really good! He also ordered mozzarella sticks, and were some of the best we've had. The fountain Birch Beer was also a plus. We will definitely be back whenever my husband gets homesick!

It's out of the way, but if you want a real deal Holifield cheesesteak sandwich, made with the famous Amoroso's hearth-baked roll? Philly Grill is where you want to go. With melted cheddar (whiz) and grilled onions, it will satisfy your foodie tooth. And there's more to this place than an authentic Philly Cheesesteak. You can order a chicken philly, or vegetarian. As well as gyros and a nice selection of chicken wings, the menu leaves little to the imagination. Dude food, all the way. The only takeaway? Not open on Sunday. This would've been my go-to for NFL Sunday. But hey, everyone deserves some time off. With Evansville slowly growing, so is it's foodie profile. Philly Grill is a testament to the boom time in Southern Indiana.
