East Coast awesome.. Accidentally eating here today was one of the best culinary surprises I have had in a long time. The decor of the place is very east coast storefront "Italian." Cluttered and random with baseball, military and police and fire pics, along with sports toys and the ever present pic of Tony Soprano, Al Pacino, all of The Godfather cast and many other Italian icon shoutouts. A lot of places try to copy this but it just comes off as cheesy. This place gives that very authentic feel. It takes me back to some of my favorite places in Baltimore, Philly, Providence or even North Jersey.

Now the important part, the food. I will first throw out the fact that I did not try the pizza. I feel as you do that this is sacrilige to pass on the pie the first time I dines here but I wanted pasta. I had the Fetuciini Cosa Nostra. This is a wet, thin sauce with fresh tomato chunks,basil and garlic. This was so freaking good. The basil was very forward with hard savory tastes of the tomatos and made the garlic subtle and background music but left it noticeable. It was so good. It could have been made in my garden only an hour ago.

Now, keep in mind this is not a Tuscan or Sicillian style sit-down. This is a New York/New Jersey pizza and pasta storefront. They make a lot of their own ingredients but it is not "Artisan inspired cuisine." This is straight up gravy and macaroni that are so hard to find past I-95. I'll update this once I have the pizza.

The only change I would make is the music. You need classic rock in a place like this. Floyd, Boston, Eddie Money or, dare I say, Journey.

This food at Big Italian is simply the best in town. Fresh ingredients equals amazing taste. And the wait staff is nothing but friendly.
