Excellent food, we will be back!. Stopped in while in Fairmont and the food is amazing. All made to order, breakfast or lunch specials were excellent. It's like being served in your gradma's house but you don't have to do the dishes. Quaint diner that has some seriously good food. Look for it on the food network for some of the best in the area. I set the GPS to go there first when in the Fairmont area.
Every town has and deserves a place like McAteer's. It's good food and large portions. I prefer breakfast over lunch, but both are not disappointing. Hours aren't long. Cash only. Two drawbacks. On St. Patrick's Day they serve up traditional Irish fare and good luck getting a table.
As authentic as it gets. Very authentic "down home"; very friendly staff. Family-run. A real "find", for us non-McDonald's type diners. Loads of local memorabilia on the walls and all around. We ate at the counter and lingered. The night before, we'd "dined" in Grafton with the Colonel (yeah, food is 'that' bad, in Grafton). We'll go out of our way to eat at McAteer's again, you bet.
Simple Perfect. I love this place. Small town diner feel, been around since 1958. There is a counter to sit at and booths and tables. I love to sit in a booth. We always go for breakfast, so that is the only food I can review, but I'm assuming all the food is the same quality as the breakfast. I always get the same thing, omelet with ricotta cheese, spinach and mushrooms, and they put big slabs of homegrown tomatoes on top of the omelet if you want. Creamy ricotta, and just the right amount of veggies, make the perfectly cooked eggs really delicious. You have your choice of home baked bread, and I always get raisin bread, you get 2 huge, thick slices, with just the right amount of butter. My husband and I share an order of homefries with peppers and onions, crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, not greasy at all. Then we also share a blueberry pancake, because their pancakes are divine, big, plump berries, crispy edges, soft, stretchy inside. This place has not changed forever, and consistency really makes a great restaurant. Service is good, nice people, good coffee, and little teeny tiny cokes.
Wonderful people and wonderful food. When you go in you really are like family. I was a customer for years before working there for a few years in college. The staff are so sweet and the customers that come in even semi regularly become family to the staff. One of the cooks is the owner and he takes special care in making sure every single piece of food that goes out is of excellent quality. And once a year on Saint Patrick's Day they do the corn beef and cabbage meal for the roots of the families Irish heritage that owns and runs the business.
Decent breakfast spot, lots of memorabilia and history here. AC blew so cold eggs were freezing in under a minute served
This is a fantastic breakfast diner. My boyfriend got the meat lovers omelet and said it was the best omelet he ever had. I got the burrito and it was delicious. Service is a little slow but that is to be expected in a small town restaurant. Overall service was excellent with friendly staff and they even offered a Togo coffee which we gladly accepted. I would come back here in a heartbeat.
I'm from out of town & had a lot of options for breakfast. Glad to have come here! Delicious food & homemade bread! Coffee was tasty and had the best chocolate shake. Food here more affordable than my state.
Whenever I travel through different states, I always like to check the different towns for local, family restaurants, and I really hit the jackpot with McAteer’s. Where else can you get homemade sausage, homemade bread, really fresh eggs, and tomatoes for breakfast! Just a very special place, and a very pretty waitress with a classic rock T shirt! Only one concern - no credit cards accepted, but the menu is so affordable, it shouldn't be a problem. I will certainly come back if I have the opportunity to stop in Fairmont, WV.
I come here all the time. I never get let down other than the wait sometimes. But thats acceptable when its the best hangover food for all the college kids. This place never disappoints! 9.5/10 would eat everyday again.
McAteers has been my favorite restaurant for years! I moved to Oklahoma 6 years ago and missed it so much! Nothing else could fill the hole in my heart created by leaving this place behind. Eventually I simply had to move back to Fairmont, I simply couldn’t stay away any longer. Best restaurant ever!
