We absolutely loved our dinner at Hugo’s! It was my first time there! My husband put the security system in Hugo’s and while he was there he tried the Bleu Cheese Bacon Burger with fries and loved it. I love to cook at home and I am so picky about eating out. But I was so impressed with Hugo’s burger and fries! My husband and I both got the Bleu Cheese Bacon Burger. I ordered mine medium well and the beef patty was perfect! Just a little pink. Just like I like it! It was tender, juicy, and the perfect meat to bun ratio. The bun tasted like it was toasted in the beef fond. Which I love! The edges were crispy and the center was so soft and fresh. There was a good bit of bacon on it and it was cooked to the perfect crispness. The fries........Oh my goodness. The French fries tasted like the ones my momma used to cut fresh and fry in a cast iron skillet. Soooooo great. Soooooo down home. We ordered one basket of fries and it was plenty for 5 people. My kiddos ordered bacon Swiss burgers and a BLT. They were all very pleased. My oldest son said it was the best burger he had ever eaten. The BLT was piled high with bacon! My baby boy loved that. For dessert we ordered about every crepe on the menu. We all shared and the boys favorite was the mint ice cream crepe. Mine was the strawberry. I loved the atmosphere being busy and loud. And I love that it was down in a basement, it was just really cool. The staff were all attentive and friendly. I can’t wait to go back!
The staff seated us in a timely manner and were genuinely friendly. The server took our order which included the Derek Special, Chicken Salad Sandwich, and the Crepe Cannelloni. Our food arrived without much wait and was very good! The atmosphere is really cool because it’s rather eclectic. The prices are what you would expect from a neighborhood bar and grill. I’ve lived in Dallas, Houston, and Little Rock, but Hugo’s is at the top of my list of cool places to eat. Great job!
Long ago, a man named Hugo opened a burger joint in Fayetteville. He taught his granddaughter how to play piano when it was empty. She thanked him by painting his portrait. Soon after, an oil fire in the kitchen burned Hugo’s down. The only things saved from the fire were the piano that he carried out on his back and this portrait. He told us this story as we ate our fries. As he finished his story, we turned to admire this painting and when we looked back, he was gone. We asked the waitress where Hugo had gone, but she had no idea what were talking about because Hugo has been dead for 15 years.
If this place is half as good as it was when I worked there years ago, it's well worth the drive. A true hidden gem and one of the best places to eat in NWAR.
If you visit Northwest Arkansas for any reason, you must eat at Hugo's. The burgers are giant, the sandwiches divine, and the fries always hot and crisp. I will not, however, fail to warn you about the atmosphere. It is dark, cramped, and very loud, as it's a downstairs basement type location that desperately needs to expand because of popularity, but can't or hasn't since it opened, but this atmosphere is part of the charm. Staff is always super helpful and hard-working. Love Hugo's!
So glad that I officially moved to the area & can now eat great burgers at Hugo's anytime! Chili burger is the best! The restaurant is unique & worth the wait that happens around meal time, but the staff is always friendly and they do a great job.
When you walk in the smell hits you like a ton of bricks. It’s amazing! The burger and fries were to die for. And I love the decor. The crowd was diverse and friendly.
A Fayetteville staple. For a great burger or perhaps a crepe it is a good spot. Nice place if you like the bustle of a crowded restaurant. Diner beware, don't go here if you are on a time crunch. This one of about 4 restaurants in Fayetteville when the lines and waits are a fact of life. This is where you go to enjoy the food and the space and take your time.

Killer food,, cool atmosphere, great waitress! We recommend the black and blue chicken sandwich.
Great atmosphere. Prompt service with courteous wait staff. I highly recommend the burgers, I got He one with Bleu Cheese crumbles it was perfect.
This place may see us everyday while we are here! Our water never got lower than half and the brisket burger with bacon and coleslaw was perfect!!
Always a favorite! The place has hardly changed in 40 years of business... the food & service is always top notch.
Have been several times and have never been disappointed with food quality or service. The one time we had a slightly sub par experience (husband sat in a seat where water had been spilled) the manager gave us a free appetizer. Favorites are the Derek's Special, the Po Boy and of course the burgers. Fries are usually great but can be on the greasy side sometimes. Atmosphere is very cozy so if you want privacy it is not ideal but that is never an issue for us, it is prime people watching territory.
This place has the best atmosphere and the food is awesome
Always good. The Dereck's Special is about the best thing a chicken could ever hope to become. Who was Derek? Who knows, but he created something special. The french fries are fresh cut. They are a little soggy sometimes, but always artery-cloggin' goodness. Burgers are pretty good. Never had a bad meal there in 30 years. Beer selection is not bad. Decor has changed little in 30 years either, so it always feels like home. It's down in a basement, so if you can't climb stairs, it's hard to get there. But if you have feet, use 'em!
First time to Hugo’s, can’t believe it took this long to get here. I had to order the cheeseburger since it’s what they are famous for. You enter an underground cave with no light and low ceilings. It will always be busy and fairly loud. The servers are efficient and fun with you. The burger was very good, seasoned well and fresh. You get a small amount of chips so you need to order the fries basket. The also have a great bar.
Worth the 30+ minute wait.
Food was delicious.
I got the chicken salad sandwich, fiancè got a burger, and we shared a basket of fries.
Everything was great!
Hugo's is my immediate go to for a beer and something satisfying. I get the same 3 things. Black and blue chicken sandwich, mushroom swiss burger or the star of the show! The sirloin steak sandwich! Though the sirloin has had chewy moments, depending on the day...the steak is super thinly sliced and falls apart. Theres this juice? Steak essence? That mixes in with melted cheese and the juice from the grilled onions and peppers. It gives it this magic creamy gravy like quality. Swoon.
French fries are handcut and floppy but it doesn't take away from how much I enjoy them!
Its a little dirty, the bathrooms are creepy, the walls are covered in antique photos and ads... It all adds up to be super charming!
Don't come on a Friday or Saturday night or you'll be in a line out of the door for awhile
Hugo's is all about location. Everyone must eat here at least once when visiting as it is a Fayetteville staple. The burgers are average, but still good. Recommend the basket of fries, big enough to be shared.
What can you say if your in Fayetteville you have to give this little gem a try. Their food is simple and tasty. They have great selection of beer and wine. Their burgers are great!
Have eaten here literally over 20 years. Still fantastic, feels more like my home than my home - the interior has stayed consistent. Derek's is the way to go, a chicken sandwich way before it became a ubiquitous menu item. Great service.
College towns tend to excel in burger & pizza places and Hugo's certainly excels in the burger field. Downstairs, they provide a basement restaurant atmosphere like I've experienced in NYC.
The burgers are scrumptious and the homemade fries basket complimented the burgers perfectly. (The burgers come with chips, not fries. Fries are extra...but worth it. 😊)
Hugo's is awesome. For my fellow Jayhawks I felt like I was back on Mass. Good college burger joint blwith great beer selection. But watch out. I ordered a new Castle and they basically brought me a 40. I didn't even know they came in bottles that big.
This place has been around FOREVER! The nostalgia alone is a good reason to go. The spinach dip is to die for. So is the bourbon burger.. Well anything you get actually. It is very small and can be loud and packed.
There is much hype about the Bleu Moon burger at Hugo's. It is well deserved hype. This burger should be served on an elevated dais to the most elevated palates. Instead, it is but one of many burgers crowding a menu in the northwest Arkansas equivalent of Cheers. And you should be happy about that, even as you muffle your way through a conversation, burger at your lips, bathed in the red glow of neon spelling out the somewhat cryptic word "Typewriters' above you, that you have been blessed with this delectable sharp, savory and filling bun-bourne goodness to complete your existence.
Best burger I've had. The service was extremely quick. The food came out and was cooked exactly how we ordered it.
Normally I have to tell places to hold the mayo on burgers because they are extremely heavy-handed, but at Hugo's they use just enough that it adds to the burger without being overwhelming.
Hands down, this is the best place for a burger in the northwest Arkansas area. Be sure to share the fries and don't be discouraged by the basement location. It's all great, and it's 100% Fayetteville!
I have always loved Hugo's, then I discovered the chef's special salad. BEST THING EVER!!!!! I have never had a bad meal there. They have the best spinach dip of any place around.
I love going to Hugo's whenever I can. This is such a fun place and very family friendly. You don't have to worry about what the kids want to eat because there are wonderful options for them. Plus you can have plenty of vegetarian choices, that's a little more difficult to find. I would recommend everyone at least try to find out how great it is!
Little gem downtown fayetteville. I found this place by accident. It was late thursday night about 8 and the place was packed. I thought there was a band or something so i went in. I managed to get a seat at the bar. I ordered a burger, fries and a beer. Got my order pretty quick, after three bites i realized why they were packed. One of the best burgers I have ever had!!! Good prices too! Will be going back for sure!
Amazing Hamburger's!. The best burger's in town. Wonderful crepes, and the atmosphere adds a lot to the dining experience. One of my favorite restaurants in Fayetteville.
Quiche Lorraine. This quiche is AMAZING... it has one of the best textures of any quiche I have ever eaten. It is a great appetizer to share with another person before you get your burger or sandwich. I look forward to eating it every time I go.
Amazing. Married friends of mine suggested going to Hugo's since I was new in town. I owe them a drink because it surpassed my expectations. Fun atmosphere paired with perhaps the best burger I have ever eaten. 5 stars.
A Fayetteville staple.. A classic burger joint nestled in a basement off the square. The environment is oddly intimate and energetic at the same time. They have the best burgers in town and this is no joke. Each time I manage to get in to Hugo's I dare myself to try something besides their burgers, but have failed every time. They are -that- good. The drink and draft menu is respectable and fairly priced. My only complaint which has persisted each visit: their fries just aren't good. They always have a burnt taste about them - often even crunchy. They aren't disgusting per say, but after a few you're pretty much done with them (and they give you a ton). Definitely worth a visit so you can romance your face with one of those meat paddies. Just get there early. It gets packed on evening hours.
Always have a burger here but last time went with a chicken burger. It did not disappoint. Very good! Will probably have it again next time.
ALWAYS. Hugo's is fantastic, everytime. Greasy burger, always cooked medium well so don't even worry about "how would you like it cooked". Fries are the second best in Fayetteville (behind Doe's) and it's perfect Fayetteville Funky. Anytime I have guests come in from out of town this is where I take them first. Keep it up Hugo's !!
Great Burgers. The location is unique, seeing as it is underground, and interesting. A very lively and enjoyable atmosphere surrounds you as soon as you walk into the door. The wait staff was very quick and responsive, they noticed immediately that we had entered and seated us as soon as they could. Be sure to get there before the dinner rush though, as the dining room is not very large and the wait can stack up. We had the Blue Moon Burger and the Swiss Bacon Burger; both of them were fantastic. The meat was succulent and cooked just like we requested. The bacon was choice and the buns, warm and soft. It was an enjoyable experience and we would highly recommend Hugo's.
The few cons are:
-quite small and crowded
-the wait can be long*
-it can feel hectic*
*only applicable during rushes
Rathskeller Awesomeness. I love Hugo's. We try to go whenever we are in town. Hugo's is a basement rathskeller. You take stairs from the sidewalk down into the restaurant. The decor is a bit dark and like a bar. They have plenty of beer choices on tap and in a bottle. The menu is very much like bar food, but way better. The burgers are very good. The basket of fries is huge, so plan to share.
I love basement style restaurants. This place is tops for me.

Dreaming.... Sometimes when I'm sitting at work or laying in bed, my mind shifts to Hugo's French Fries.. that is happening right now.. and I really want some bad! May be calling in a carry order, 7 baskets of fries please.
Good service, great atmosphere and the best burgers in Fayetteville. All the burgers are good, but the Bleu Moon is fantastic. Fries are pretty average.
Great Experience. I love Hugo's, and their burgers are fantastic.
Service and atmosphere are great as well.
Catfish Poboy was good. Good selection of beer.
Great Food Everytime. Hugo's is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is fantastic. Great burgers, great fries, and great location. I like the underground vibe it is very cool.
This is a local favorite. The burgers are well made and the prices are reasonable. You might want to call ahead to see if there's a line though..
Area Staple, Personal Favorite. Derek's Special. It's just the greatest.
The environment is wonderful and the staff works hard all the time.
The fries could be better, but every entree is so good you may as well skip them.
One of my favorite Places to go. Food always good, staff wonderful. Great bar to sit and take-in all the memo. Great, great burger
Darn Good Food. One of the best burgers I've ever had. I look forward to my next visit.

Best Burger in Arkansas. Best burger in Arkansas. It's been the hidden gem for decades. I've been eating there since the mid 80's and it is still a great place to eat.
The burgers are incredible. The homecut fries are such a great switch from the pressed potato paste fries. Try a Derek Special and don't forget the Grasshopper Crepes.
Pub with a twist. This place is down a stairwell tucked into the building, and I'm so glad we stumbled across it! Dark and loud, but great food and awesome cold beer. I ordered the fish tacos that were the night's special. They tasted very good with jack cheese, which was a twist. Overall well balanced, but a little skimpy on the fish. Still good stuff. Everyone in my group was happy with their meal. There was even quiche on the menu. Wasn't expecting that in a pub type environment. Would definitely be back.
Love Hugo's. I've been going to Hugo's for years and have never had a bad meal. The burgers are great (especially the Blue Moon Burger) and the Tuna Melt is also excellent. The line can be a little daunting at times since it's a smaller place, but it's worth the wait.
A standard in fayetteville. Fantastic!
Best burger restaurant in Fayetteville, hands down. Love the Blue Moon burger and the guacamole burger. Yum!
Swiss bacon cheeseburger is awesome! Don't let the line scare u - fast table turnover. Bloody Mary's are good while u wait :)
Icon for downtown. Been eating at Hugo's for some time now, always happy with the food and service. I love bringing out of towners to eat there, they love the location and the old burger dive vibe of the place. Plan ahead it can get very crowded and busy.
Good Burger. We went there for their burgers. We both thought the burgers were very good, not excellent, but very good. The homemade fries are also very good. I normally dont like homemade fries, but theirs were crispy and not too greasy. The waitresses were excellent and never let our glass get half empty. We would definitely go back.
My favorite restaurant of all time. Derek's Special hasn't changed (except for price) in 15 years. Even the waitresses are still moody and nonconformist. There is no substitute for this place.
Any person who doesn't like this food is clearly an idiot. The only down side to this place is how small and crowded it is.
One of the BEST in Fayetteville. Saw a couple of negative reviews here posted by "g" and "juju" and I'd like to comment on their lack of satisfaction with the way they were treated. Fact is, if you head into Hugo's at peak hours it's typical to expect a slight wait - it happens to be one of the most popular restaurants in town. Sounds to me like these people saw a table open up and lunged at it without checking to see if it was their turn for a table on the wait list. As a result of their actions they were dealt with appropriately. Other patrons know that you have to take your turn. Hugo's is an AWESOME restaurant and has been a local tradition since 1977!
Absolutely Fabulous! An em.... Absolutely Fabulous!
An employee of mine visited Fayetteville back in April, and tried fish tacos for the first time. He never stopped talking about them, so i decided to see what all the fuss was about. I have enjoyed numerous types of fish tacos in different states, as I travel quite frequently with Spectrum Energy. Today I felt like I was eating in Baja, CA; actually better! It was a different twist than I ever had with any previous encounter of fish tacos, and let me tell you, it worked! Compliments to the Chef! A dining experience my pallet will never forget. Cannot wait to be back in Fayetteville again!
Just had lunch there today and it was fantastic! We had potato skins for an appetizer and they were alright but our hamburgers and fries were soooo good!! Also, the staff was very attentive and quick to their feet. Will definitely be going back.
My favorite place. There chicken and sweet and sour sauce is amazing. I never leave without eating a grasshopper crepe! Great feel, awesome crew!
Great burger. I'm a man who loves his burgers and I have high expectations for what makes a good burger! This passed my high expectations with flying colors. The fries and sweet tea were good too!
Great burger. Great fries. Great lunch!
Best burger joint ever!! Everything is fresh and the staff is friendly. The burgers are messy and you need lots of napkins but that's how a good burger is supposed to be!
Best burger... Ever. This is my favorite place to eat in fayetteville. When i was a kid my grandparents would bring me here before Razorbacks games. Hugo's is in a basement, so i was amazed you could look out the window and see feet walking down the street. The Hamburgers are my favorite in town, possibly the best i've ever had. The beer list is decent and the atmosphere is an A+. HIghly recommend this establishment.
We had the best experience ever tonight at Hugo's. We brought the kids out, (which we don't normally do on a Friday night to a busy restaurant). Everything was fantastic. We started with the Spinach Artichoke Dip. My kids love the tricolor chips that come with that dip. The Derek special is always a winner in my book. My kids love the crunchy chips that come with the burgers. We even managed to find room for desert. Nothing beats the Grasshopper Crepes. I can't wait until the next time we get to head down to the basement for another stellar experience! Keep rockin you Hugo's peeps. Whatever you guys are doing is working. We'll be back!

All I can say is WOW! I love this place. Best food in town, and always great service. The place gets busy and sometimes can seem a little crowded, but it's always worth the wait!

First time at Hugo's, and I was completely satisfied with the courteous and prompt friendly service. I have heard about Hugo's for years and could not have been happier with my overall experience. The manager behind the bar was friendly when I paid my tab and i made sure to let her know what great service me and my family received. I will definitely be a returning patron. Good job Hugo's! I can't wait to return.
Great food and it's nice some places don't change. It makes you feel like home.
Best Buger in NWA. If you like Blue cheese then the bleu moon burger is what you need to try. It's so so good. If you dont like bleu cheese then any other buger there will be the best one you have had. Bleu moon burger= 1/3 lb charbroiled Black angus beef, melted bleu cheese, fresh veggies, and chips. for 6.95? heck of a deal! its cheaper and better than a lot of new burger places...go there.
Nice. This place lives up to the hype. I bring first dates here often.

I LOVE HUGO'S. I love the atmosphere. I can remember my family coming here before Hog basketball games, so nostalgia must play a role. Yet, EVERYTHING I have ever tried is delicious. Salads, quiche, burgers, crepes. My favorite is the chicken salad. It rocks and my 2 year old will fight me for it.
Awesome food!. The black and blue chicken sandwich is so good! And their fries are the best!
Love the atmosphere here! Great simple food. Lots of vegetarian options. I especially like the veggie reuben. Always busy but service is very efficient!
I haven't been to Hugo's in two years! So I decided to go there with a friend and it was delicious!!!! Going there much more often!!!!
