We visited Down Under today, and I must say that it is THE BEST seafood we have EVER eaten. We've crisscrossed the country a number of times, north and south, and coast to coast, and Down Under Restaurant is simply the best seafood we have ever eaten, anywhere, bar none.
The prices are reasonable, the portions are decent meal sized, and the food is divinely delicious. Jordyn was our server, and she was phenomenal - attentive without being intrusive, or smothering.
Oh, and Down Under's version of the Moscow Mule is To. Die. For. I cannot possibly recommend this restaurant enough!
You have to go period!!! The food is to die for plus the service was excellent!!! The owner even came by the table to see how we were enjoying everything. They had live music and also out seating by the water. We loved and we will definitely be back!!!!

My first time at the restaurant, and it was excellent. Sean McCarthy Band was great, food was fantastic, and my waitress was the best! Will definitely go back!
We have been there 5-6 times with and without friends & family! Recommend it! Telling everyone we see! Inside and patio all great with great food & service!
The food was very good and the service was the best. Every time the waiter passed our table he would stop to see if we need anything.
Party of 15 we had great service and food was wonderful. Shari is the bomb.
Excellent food and staff. Had to wait outside for a few but was greated and asked if any assistance needed multiple times. Me, my wife and kids enjoyed.
The location under the bridge is pretty cool with an interesting water view. There were a lot of gnats out when we went so if you plan on sitting outside for that sunset atmosphere, make sure you prepare ahead of time by spraying yourself with bug repellent.
The collard greens were absolutely fantastic.
The food was decent but the Cajun Mahi special we had was not very flavorful and the grits were runny.
If we had to recommend something, maybe go with a blackened or fried shrimp dinner.
Our server was very nice and helpful forgot to catch his name but he did great. Ordered peel & eat shrimp didn't know they came out with ice on them so really didn't like them. But they corrected that the squid was good and oysters was delicious. Nice little place
Very picturesque waterfront seafood restaurant. Our waitress was very patient with the four of us and our requests. One in our group said the Mahi was the best she had outside Hawaii.
We had delicious food at this uniquely located restaurant. Visited in September, kind of quiet, no wait for an indoor table. Outdoors there was a 30 minute wait. But there were also 2 singers outside so we were better off inside. We had the local shrimp in garlic sauce. And grouper Monterey. Good service was a bonus.
Food is always delicious anytime we come to Down Under! We love the specials, offered every day! Ordered fried shrimp and fried oyster lunch specials and they came out piping hot and the perfect portion. Also got a dozen raw oysters, they were fresh and melted right in your mouth! The blue chippers are also always hot and the chunks of blue cheese are just the right amount of funk lol. Highly recommend if you're in the area!
Good place for fresh seafood.
They don’t have table reservations which can be a bit painful.
The place is crowded as the food is good with excellent service.
Suggest getting to the place by 5 for early dinner.
They have a decent bar service as well.
The wait was long and a little confusing-half the tables inside were empty and the tables outside seemed to be a mix of seat yourself vs sat by hostess. Maybe they are short on staff at the moment. The outside bar is super convenient so you can grab drinks while waiting.
Regardless, all the employees were very friendly and helpful. Once we were sat, service was quick and all the food was very good. Portions were very big. All the seafood was fresh and had great flavor.
Neat place. It was packed, but for his reason. The location is cool, the seafood was good, our server was friendly and quick. It was a really good night, not sure I'll ever be back that way again, but if I am I'll probably stop in for dinner. Sorry about the pics of the food, we'd already started eating.
A little hard to find out of the way under the bridge but well worth the visit… restaurant. Had good reviews and got good reasons. Sam was our waitress and did a great job. Can’t go wrong with the Seafood platter.
Nice spot on intercostal. Grilled catch of the day was tasty, mahi mahi. The pan seared sesame tuna was delicious.
We visited friends in Fernandina Beach and got the chance to eat at Down Under. It was one of their favorite spots and now it will be one of ours. We had the seafood platter with local fresh oysters, shrimp, and fish. It was delicious! We ordered it blackened and it was all spot on with flavor. The setting was beautiful!
Fried shrimp here is tremendous! Perfectly seasoned breading, and the shrimp is sweet and not tiny. I also got a fried crab cake which was good, could have been better, but the shrimp more than made up for it.
Great hush puppies too.
I would have given this place 5 stars if the fried pickles were crispier, I'm a fried pickle fanatic I must admit! Overall, the service was good and the food came out quickly. Large portion sizes perfect for sitting and staying a while or sharing - fish and chips alone could feed two people. The fish tacos weren't authentic but still tasty. Both the regular and sweet potato fries are great with a soft interior and crisp outside. I'll definitely be back!
A hidden gem, I've been in Hilliard over 3 years and just found this place, plenty of seating indoor and outdoor, great atmosphere and the staff are all pleasant. Plates came out with plenty on them and delicious you have to try their cocktail sauce 😋, I definitely will be going back to try other menu items
This is the second time I've eaten here and both times I've ordered the Thai shrimp, because it's so good. Sweet, salty with a little heat, and topped with fresh juicy, perfectly cooked shrimp. The staff is cheerful and friendly. There is a generous sized deck overlooking the water, and I was told that dolphins sometimes come to visit. I'll be back to have more shrimp and try to catch a glimpse of the dolphins.
Emily is an outstanding host. She gives us advice for the food selections. She accommodates us.
My daughter and I went to down under for dinner on the last day of vacation. I wanted to try somewhere new since we’ve been to that beach multiple times. And I was really wanting some raw oysters and other seafood. The oysters were cheaper than other restaurants locally, they were small. Not really what I was hoping for. I don’t know what kind of fish I got on the seafood platter but I didn’t care for it. But the scallops were huge! And the best I’ve ever ate. And the views of the location, gosh I loved that. They had a live band which was okay but we were sat right next to them, making it very hard to talk to each other or the waiter as it was so loud. The mixed drink I got was very good. I don’t remember the name of it but overall the trip there was decent.
