Years ago this place was just an ordinary diner, with horrible food, then they closed. Not long after something new opened, looked exactly the same on the inside, and outside, but the food was definitely different. Not only do you get that hot Latin employee flavor, but the food, so delicious, and portions are great. I love when you're respected and appreciated as a customer, and they are never stingy. That was years ago, but I moved further out. I tried many Latin places, but none compare to this place, so I never stopped thinking about this place when ever I was craving some Latin food. I am white, but I am no stranger to international cuisine, but when it comes to Latin food, Dominican is the King, flavor beats them all. Long story short, yesterday 10/25/2016 I was craving Latin food, there is a Colombian restaurant close to my house, but her food sucks, portions are tiny, and she charges arm and the leg. She also needs to taste Dominican pernil, maybe then she can stop bragging about her dry, over cooked, and under seasoned pernil. Getting back to my review :), this place changed a lot, renovation, beautiful job, love the food bar, OMG I love their portions. I got so much in return for what I paid. I'm eating pernil as I'm typing this. I'm such a fat boy at heart. The food is not the only thing that is kept hot in there �, if you know what I mean, smiles go very far. Most businesses usually start off great and then just go down with service that they offer, but this place was great to begin with and keeps on getting better.
I live in Brooklyn but wandered in on a whim because I was in the neighborhood this morning.
It was fantastic.
Nice place, nice people-- FANTASTIC food. I tried the #mangu, which is plantain mash, with eggs, salami, and queso. Pickled red peppers on top.
Came with coffee, very reasonable price.
Want to go back and eat more. But for now I'm still full!
Fabulous, perfectly prepared and seasoned fresh food and very friendly, helpful staff. Looooved the Mofongo <3
I attended melas restaurant to celebrate my mothers birthday!!! We were a family table of 7. The customer service was excellent! And the food there was amazing! I would definitely go there to eat again it was a cozy atmosphere and the food there was amazing. I can't wait to go back and eat there again
Ive lived in the neighborhood my whole life and out of all the restaurants that have been before Melas cafe I must say Melas is the best and I hope they stay. I love it there. Great food , Great service. They are very friendly and make their customers feel like their part of the family.
Food is like heaven. The Booths are a little slim though.
Had Spanish breakfast here twice and it was delicious and very reasonably priced.
I was in the neighborhood and stopped by for lunch, food was delicious🤤 had the red wine sangria, it was really good. Also tried the crab cake and shrimp in garlic sauce 🤤 yum!! Recommended 🙂❤❤
Awesome experience. Great food and great, friendly service! Everything was fresh. Nice atmosphere too. Looking forward to going back on my next trip to NY.
I've lived in the area for years and my father eats here often. I recently went and got the rice and beans with tilapia. The prices seem a little high but the service is amazing the restaurant is really nice and the food was really good. My dad loves the tripe soup.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been by Kissena Blvd, I wanted to have some coffee so I come in to this restaurant Mela’s.
Nicely designed and decorated, so I asked can I have a cup of coffee, thinking they may not serve just coffee, sure just have a seat at any table I’ll be right back.
I was looking for a comfortable section with just single seating.
As I was seating I glanced around it’s really nice place. Here’s your coffee sir enjoy it!! Wow I was totally surprised to see how it was served( first picture) Definitely Delicious coffee I have had in awhile.
I took some pictures of this restaurant, glad that I did to learn a bit more about this restaurant.
As the waitress came with the check, I was reviewing the pictures, at that moment I was looking at the white floral arrangements, I did that floral arrangement with my boss, she told me.
Wow that’s awesome it really looks great and makes a beautiful presentation when customer comes in, thank you she replied.

I found this looking for Venezuelan restaurants around Queens. The service was great very friendly, they have a “comfort food” or “comida casera” buffet where you can just order for take out and it’s fast and very convenient. We were the only table but they had a good amount of customers coming in for take out. We order 2 burgers one classic and one “mela’s”, a palomilla and an order of ribs from the Buffett . I ordered a passion fruit margarita, sadly not my favorite, just had a very strong sour taste. The burgers didn’t have any salt or seasoning, we are not the type of customers thar return food so we added salt and ketchup to try make it better but definitely not the best burgers. The other two plates were fine. I think the best thing was the complimentary Sancocho, omg !! We all loved it, and their Buffett options. The food looked amazing and the smell was even better.
Nice place, music and beautifully presented plates. The food is so tasty good, you will only regret not been there before… lol. Will definitely come back with friends. Highly recommend this place.

Food is always fresh and the typical Dominican breakfast tres golpes is amazing! Large portion for good price!
Friendly service, good food, pleasant atmosphere. I feel like i really need to come here a few times to accurately review. My skirt steak was cooked perfectly to order, and i enjoyed the beans & rice. The tres leches dessert was amazing!
I had the Dominican breakfast and the food was exactly what I expected. Delicious!!! 😋 I will definitely come back!
