Finally tried this place and was very pleased. Had the Tipico steak which was a great deal for 10 bucks! Beans were authentic and waitress was very friendly and attentive.

The Palomilla steak was amazing as was the rice and plantains. Black beans were ok. We also tried the seafood chimichanga which was very heavy (cream based?) and strong on the seafood flavor-- not my cup of tea but the boyfriend thought it was "tasty!". Chips and salsa were awesome too, an the sangria was nice and sweet. We will definitely be going back.

Fresh Delicious Mexican!!. This place is a small restaurant, but it has been Zagat rated as Best Mexican before and I can explain why. The 2 chicken taco meal with refried beans and rice is delicious and perfectly made. It comes out piping hot, all white meat marinated chicken, crispy crunchy taco shells, and hot fresh rice and beans, what's not to love?! :) Its authentic mexican without having to go and wait for a table at typical Fort Lauderdale mexican restaurants such as La Bamba, etc. All the taste of authentic Mexican in a small, hidden lushly landscaped tiny restaurant nestled in one of Old Fort Lauderdale's shopping centers. Highly recommended. Chips and salsa are out of this world as well. It's an old Fort Lauderdale hidden gem!

Not bad and Good Service. I wanted to try Tipico after hearing some co-workers talk about their food being good. I have to admit after reading some of the negative reviews I was worried about service/servers. Just so everyone knows, I had NO complaints about the service. They were quick and very pleasant.

I was served the comp chips and salsa and I really enjoyed them. The chips were hot and you could tell they were homemade. The salsa both hot and mild were served nicely chilled. Usually I get salsa that is warm. They must store the salsa in the frig because it was nice and cool. A good contrast to the hot (temp) chips. I then had the Del Mar Burrito (see pic) which is listed on the menu as a burrito filled with crab and lagostinos. When I ordered this, the server promptly told me that the burrito only had crab in it and not lagostinos. I said I wanted it anyways without the side of beans and for them to give me more yellow rice instead. He gladly said, no problem. My order came out and it looked great and even tasted even better. the burrito wasn't too big but it was filled with real crab and it was piping hot. The rice tasted fresh and was not hard/crunchy like some tex/mex places I have eated at. Overall I like the place and I will be back.

Remember to tell them Dan sent you for the above average chips and salsa... and the Crab Burrito. Stay Hungry!

Great food, not so great people/service. Some of the waiters are very rude. Not just one time, but ALL the time. I eat at Tipicos frequently bc of business. And some of the staff are surprisingly awful. It just sucks bc their food is amazing. Hopefully they straighten out there employees or else they'll continue to receive poor tips from me. Wait there is one guy who is always helpful and nice - I think he's the manager.

Very tasty Mexican cuisine, and other Spanish dishes. We had the chicken nachos, chicken quesadillas, and ropa vieja with white rice and maduros. I was too full for dessert. Lots of parking in this shopping center.

I moved to the north end of the state a few years ago and the Mexican food just doesn't compare to South Florida. This place really shines. It's tucked away in a shopping plaza, but the interior is really nice and the staff are friendly. Good, strong coffee. I ordered picadillo, my friends got the breakfast burritos (only available on weekends). We all cleaned our plates. Great place!

Great find!! We’re always looking for the authentic food experience, this is the real deal and great value excellent food , great professional and personal waiters and service . We found the diamond in the rough the outside appearance and shopping center does not reflect the intimate charm of its interior. Truly a Diamond in the rough🤩 we come several times a month and we’re never disappointed

Luis was are waiter , The service was very good. I had the Mahi and Shrimp fajitas. My girlfriend ordered a variety of vegetarian dishes, 1 of was the White Bean soup. The Fajitas were incredible, it was the sauce that set the meal above any other restaurant. The atmosphere is pleasant and the whole experience was enjoyable.

Was in town for business and had the best service! Most server's aren't too friendly with a one person party taking up their table. Food was beyond delicious and you get a lot of food. Price was very affordable. Anyone who is in the area should give this authentic restaurant a try.

Excellent Spanish/Mexican Cuisine! Shredded pork, thinly pounded steak and chicken, a variety of fish dishes as well as traditional fare,(nachos, fajltas, tacos, enchiladas)are available. There are lunch specials which include a beverage. Wine , sangria beer and margaritas to complete your meal. Truly, there is NO bad food here! Nicely priced.

The service was great but the food was nothing special. It was as if I had prepared the meal myself at home. The ingredients were cheap. However, it was well prepared.

Tipico Cafe is a superb and low key Spanish restaurant in Gateway Plaza that's been a reliable staple on our list for at least 15 years. You'll find both Cuban and Mexican favorites as well as a wide assortment of beers and wine. Service and food is always outstanding.
