My recent dining experience at Mexican Inn Cafe left me with mixed feelings, as the restaurant offered a blend of delightful surprises and slight disappointments. One highlight that stood out was the fajitas and the salsa; both were a burst of flavors, a perfect balance of spice and freshness that complemented the entire meal. The salsa alone was enough to elevate the dining experience.
Moving on to the main course, the fajitas were a definite win. The sizzling platter arrived with perfectly grilled meat and a medley of colorful, sautéed vegetables. The aroma was inviting, and the taste did not disappoint. The meat was tender and seasoned to perfection, and the accompanying vegetables added a delightful crunch. The dish showcased the kitchen's expertise in preparing classic Mexican fare.
However, only some things on the table lived up to expectations. The chips, a staple in any Mexican restaurant, could have been more impressive. They were homemade Fritos. Those are good alone but not suitable for dipping chips and salsa. While they served as vessels for the delicious salsa, they did not make a memorable impression.
The restaurant's ambiance was warm and inviting, with vibrant decor creating a pleasant dining atmosphere. The service was prompt and friendly, contributing positively to the overall experience. Although 85% of people working there were sniffling and coughing, and while I understand that happens, it was unnerving to eat food cooked and served by people who are sick. Thankfully, my server wasn't one of them; she was great.
In conclusion, Mexican Inn Cafe offers a flavorful journey with notable highlights, such as outstanding salsa and mouthwatering fajitas. However, the inconsistency in the quality of the chips left room for improvement. Mexican Inn Cafe is worth visiting if you're a fan of well-executed salsa and crave satisfying fajitas. Just be prepared to overlook the lackluster chips for the sake of this establishment's other culinary delights.
I was/am THOROUGHLY impressed with the facility on S. Hulen. Being a retired Army food inspector, I am very picky about, and screen food establishments every time I eat out. At first glance, I thought the frito chips were store bought. Upon closer inspection, I saw that they were homemade. The tortilla strips and corn tortillas were homemade as well. The salsa did NOT drip/run down from the chips. They stayed on the chip. The taco salad was second to none. Fresh ingredients, REAL beef, very nice dressing, and a generous portion size worth the price. Hands down, this is one the finer places I have dined at in TX. The ENTIRE experience from A-Z was most pleasant. The atmosphere, decor, staff, cleanliness, and quality of food and home items made it very enjoyable for me and my daughter. A Top Notch place all around. THANK YOU for such an enjoyable experience. We will definitely be back for more of this greatness. May God Bless you with continued success.
Homemade chips, salsa and tortillas were delicious. Ady, our server, was very sweet and attentative. Food was delicious, queso was bomb! We will definitely be back!
Don't let the chips fool you, they do not look like your typical tortilla chips. They were beyond amazing! Great salsa too. The brisket enchiladas were delicious and the margarita was super yummy. Great service and the price was worth it! Definitely coming back there soon ☺️
We went on a Thursday about 4 pm. It wasn't very busy so we were seated within minutes. Our drink orders were taken and brought to us just after our chips and salsa. Food orders were taken a few mins later. 10 mins after our food came out. It was very hot when brought to the table. My beef enchiladas plate was very good. I haven't been a fan of Mexican Inn. But we gave this location a try and all of us were pretty happy.
Our service wasn't great. Plain Mexican restaurant. Food was good, but the chips are like big Fritos, but harder. Sauce and salsa were good, but should be warm. It would be much better. The house Margarita was very good!!
Good old country cooking, breakfast is always my favorite meal.
They cook it the way granny does, delicious, and filling.
Staff greet you with a smile. Enjoy.
It was my Aisha Z. Russell) 47th birthday this past August
Outstanding service. Fantastic chips and salsa reminded me of the Frito style chips of old San Antonio. Stop in and enjoy their fresh tortillas. Our server today was Adi and she was great!
This is my husband's favorite place to get chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce. We've been going to the one in Keller but was very happy to see this one near us after a move. I love their mild salsa. Due to dietary issues I can no longer eat spicy things. Their chips are addicting.
Always a great choice for authentic tex-mex, whatever that is... But for real

Food is always hot and very good, drinks are always good, the service is usually pretty good, and I like that each person gets their own bowl of chips & salsa, but there is ALWAYS flies or gnats buzzing around! I’ve been to this location on Hulen a few times & there's always some flies.
All great again and again! Just updating my 5-star ratview from 3 years ago! Order the beef burrito but changed it up and swapped the chili out for questions blanco! Highly recommend! It was out of this world great! Always a positive experience! Ask for Cinthya - she was efficient and very kind!
I love their brisket tacos and there is enough rice and beans to make a second meal.
It's hit or miss with Mexican Inn. This one was a miss, sad to say. The server was nice, the food was not as good as the service. Will always go back to Mexican Inn because when it's good, it's really good!
I love their steak fajitas! The meat is seasoned perfectly, and is so tender. Their chips and salsa is yummy. And the servers are friendly and attentive.
