Eat like a local!. My husband went to college in Fremont and was familiar with Whitey's. I'd never eaten there until recently. He kept telling me stories about the huge hamburgers at Whitey's, so I couldn't wait to try them. They are HUGE and quite tasty. There is some unique flavoring to their burgers that I was trying to pinpoint... The orders of french fries are large enough to share with someone. So unless you are really hungry, plan on sharing! Their fries remind me of the fresh cut fries that are sold at fairs--so delicious!
While eating there, I felt like I was in the company of my grandparents and their friends. This is not a bad thing! Everyone was nice and warm to us. We were greeted at the front door with a 'hello' by one of the workers at the counter. The lady who took our money when we paid the bill was so sweet-- just like a little old grandmother. Each time someone walked in, it seemed like all the employees knew who they were and shouted their 'hellos' out.
This little place has it's charms, delicious food, and wonderful employees. While the food isn't considered health food, you do get hefty sized portions. I can understand why this placed is talked about often and favored by locals.
Wow!!!!! Every summer we go to ohio to see my inlaws. And before we leave we haft to go get the best food every and thats whities. We love u guys!!!!
While on travel for work I like to eat at local Mom & Pop shops. If you traveling in or near Fremont, OH I do recommend eating at Whitey's. I just had a great breakfast in a small town close social environment packed with the locals. Price is reasonable and the portions to fill a small army.
Great greasy spoon. Very friendly. Sausage gravy was wonderful. Whitey's was a nice find for these folks traveling from out of town. Much better experience than a chain restaurant.
Whitey's. A landmark restaurant around here! NOT HEALTHY FOOD! a real greasy spoon. Eat here occasionally... Trash potatoes are the BOMB! Eggs, potatoes, peppers, onions, ham, cheese, bacon? all on one plate. Yummy!
We were passing through and we're looking for a place to eat lunch, boy we were glad to stumble upon Whitey's!!! Don't come here with no sissy appetite. My goodness, if you leave hungry that's on you. We both got bacon cheese burgers. I'm 100% certain i died and went to bacon cheese burger heaven. Literally one of the best burgers. It has to be a pound of fresh ground beef cooked to perfection on a flat top. The bacon... 3 of the most tasty and thick pieces of bacon I have ever encountered. I will be having dreams of this burger for the rest of my days, and I'm pretty sure no other burger will live up to it, and will have to come back to Whitey's. I am completely ok with that!
The joint was clean and the staff were amazingly friendly. I would recommend this establishment to anyone hands down.
Great and fresh food! Pancakes were the best I've had in years. Their homemade potatoes were outstanding. Ample sized portions. Extremely friendly staff! Specifically a shout out to owner Mark and our waitress. Char.
Well worth the detour off of I-80. Stopped here on a cross-country road trip and would definitely make a point to return in the future. One of those treasured local diners where the food, people, and atmosphere have that undeniable personality that comes with history. I sat at the counter shoulder to shoulder with devoted loyal customers and ate something called the Trash Potatoes, which was incredible. Get the Trash Potatoes. Do not eat at some service plaza fast food chain. Go to Whitey's.
Huge portions of good food. Sausage looked homemade and was really, really good. I saw plates coming out that I'd like to try. When we get close by, we'll make the trip and stop again.
Not a big deal, but cash only.
Awesome trip down memory lane. Grew up in the area in the 90's and haven't been back in over 20 years. Brought my wife and kids for breakfast and it was everything I remembered it to be. Hot, fresh and straight outta the country. Ordered the Bubba with Cheese, and now I need a nap. Whiteys. As American as apple pie. Btw, they have apple pie a la mode 😉
My experience at Whitey’s Diner was amazing! I recommend getting the experience sitting at the counter watching the master chef make everyone’s food on the griddle. The servers were very friendly and welcoming. If you’re ever in Fremont, Ohio during breakfast or lunch you MUST stop at Whitey’s for the food.
Two of us got the Trash Potatoes and they were anything but trash, they were a delicious combination of chopped taters, green pepper, mushroom, onion and cheese topped with sausage gravy. And the serving size...well let's just say, the leftovers were served next morning as a side dish to scrambled eggs for 8 moremore. more.ous!
