Sue and I were coming home from Vienna up 66 and we were trying to figure out where to have dinner. Sue Yelped the Gainesville area it popped up with several chain type restaurants that weren’t interesting. Then she said how about “Out of the Blue Crabs and Seafood”. Well that got my attention so we put the address into the GPS to get us there. It was kind of hard to get to, but it was worth it.
The First thing you noticed when you walk in is that it is a crab house, but the smell was fresh and not overpowering. Then you saw the crab pricing board
We were shown to a table in an area that was spacious and easy to move around in. The décor is what you expect for a seafood house but well done and not tacky.
I didn’t get the crabs, but found out they were Chesapeake Blues. They do have an all you can eat crab special for $39.95. I got a ½ dozen shucked to order oysters that were properly prepared (mussel cut off the bottom shell) and juicy, with a pound of shrimp. The shrimp took two bites to eat and were cooked perfectly.
Sue had a Chicken Linguine dish that she liked and would order again.
After talking with our waitress we found out that the brother and sister were the children of the original owners of Capt’ Pell’s in Vienna. What a surprise! It was a very pleasant atmosphere and we will certainly be going back. You should give it a try.

My boyfriend wanted to take me out for lunch as I have been ill. From the moment we walked in the staff made us feel right at home. Had a great server named Kaylie. Friendly, bubbly, happy. We looked over the menu and we both ordered the fried shrimp. OMGOSH!!!!!! The food was perfect...tender and some of the biggest shrimps I've ever seen and worth every penny. The cole slaw was a BIG yum...I can't wait to go back. My only small complaint was the clam strips were fried to long and hard to chew. But my overall opinion of this seafood restaurant is 5 star!!! Great job!
I wanted to say Thank You for giving us some of the best crabs last weekend for my Dad’s 70th surprise party! We got 3 Bushels and they all tasted amazing. I will definitely recommend and be back for more!
Crabs by the dozen are the way to go. They might be a little expensive but they are very meaty. Waiter was very attentive and manager stopped by to check out our dining experience. I was very pleased with everything. Will definitely recommend this establishment to friends.

My absolute FAVORITE place to go. They have THE best blue crabs I've ever had and I've lived in the area my entire life. The colossal shrimp are amazing as are the appetizers. We try to go once a week. YUM!!!
We drive to Out of The Blue from Locust Grove just about every weekend for the last 3 months. Love the crabs 🦀 and our waitress Tiffany who takes great care of us.
Dog friendly patio, great service, love the clams & fried flounder.
My wife loves this place. I don't eat Crabs, but she will pass any and every other Crab place to come here. I usually get the clam strips that are always on-point. I highly recommend it for Crab and Seafood lovers.
Some things like the calamari tasted bland. One of my dinner companions chicken on her pasta was so dry she couldn't eat it. The other companion was VERY pleased with the meal (The Crab Trap)! Our waitress (Ella) was GREAT! Over all the food was good!
First, we have to give a shout-out to our server, Arianna. Who also is the bartender. Not only covered the bar but also gave great service to her tables. Mad skills, young lady. Now, to the food, we had calamari, deviled eggs, dozen oysters on half shells, and Mussels as appetizers. Calamari is awesome, Deviled Eggs. Hubby enjoyed it. I am not a fan of Ole Bay, so it was just okay with me. Mussels was outstanding. The main course hubby had stuffed flounder was really good his exact words; "Was fricken good, lol. I had the Crab Trap combo of blue crab, crab legs, and shrimp, and I asked for fried clams instead of the listed steamed. Again, I'm not a fan of obay. But was totally thrilled with everything, one cripe, a little too much cook on the shrimp. Otherwise, it's totally awesome and worth the visit. If you're in the mood for seafood, you will not go wrong. Price was very reasonable and worth the money. The atmosphere and decor is very pleasant and suitable for a seafood restaurant. A big thumbs up for the dual sink outside the restroom to wash up hands. Thanks again Arianna you rock.
Wonderful food and service!
SPECTACULAR Bloody Mary, with arim lined with Old Bay (brilliant idea!) and topped with crab meat stuffed olives and crab claws!!
Who needs an extra appetizer?!
And they had soft shell crab, my fave.
What's not to love if you're a seafood lover?
The crab legs were so delish! Everything was cooked perfect and our server Shay was so good! Thank you for the great meal and service!!
We ordered 1 pound of steamed spiced shrimp and 1 dozen colossal crabs. Both were excellent! We thought Ryan (sp) the owner/manager was awesome and so was the staff. We will definitely go again.
My wife and decided to eat at this restaurant for lunch. The overall experience was good.
I decided to have the crab stuffed flounder with brussel sprouts and fries. From the kitchen, the food has little seasoning which was alright. But in order to really get the flavor to come out, you must use the House seasoning to really give the food a flavorful kick!
The waitress was really good and very attentive. I would come back here and eat in the future!
Nice location and friendly service!
I oder 1/2 lb lobster combo and it’s delicious, plus the price is also acceptable.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is perfect. Good for gathering with friends and dating.
I may come again when I visit Boston next time!
The food was incredible. The scallops were perfectly buttery, flavored, and seared with a heavenly texture. The fried flounder (kids fish& chips) was incredible! Perfect amount of seasoning and moisture. The clam chowder was delicious and creamy. Every bite we are was heavenly. 10/10!!!!
Service was fast, the food was great, and the restaurant is always a clean and comfortable place to be. The hostess and our waiter Ian were very friendly and professional. I definitely recommend Out of the Blue for a great Seafood experience!!
Ordered the crab dip and stuffed flounder (crab cake) . The crab dip was delicious. Our stuffed flounder/crab cake was good, but we added extra seasoning (provided at the table) . The hush puppies were good, but the mashed potatoes were a little off. All of the sea food could have used a lot more oldbay, but overall good food and good service.
The food was slammin' as we've come to expect. But Jiles our server was the star of the show. Thank you.
The food was amazing. Definitely get the raw oysters! Scallops were cooked to perfection, and the crab was heavy with meat!
My wife and I went in on a Saturday night recently. We had reservations for 6 and got there about 15 minutes early. They were pretty busy so we did have to wait 15-20 minutes for a table. Once we were seated the waiter came by within a few minutes and took our drink order. We got an appetizer of steamed clams which came out pretty quickly and were steamed well. My wife ordered the crab legs and I got the Crab Trap combo. Comes with a cluster of snow crab, three mediums blue crabs, 1/2 dozen clams and 1/2lb steamed shrimp. Plus two sides which I did the hush puppies and corn. Food came out within about 15-20 minutes and the crabs legs, shrimp and clams were perfect. The blue crabs were steamed well but one of the three was very light and nothing but water. That was a little disappointing considering they should be able to feel how light it was before putting on platter. That one little issue didn’t put a damper on the evening and we fully enjoyed our meals. We will be back again in the near future for some more delicious steamed seafood
The steamed blue crabs are delicious we order one dozen of extra large.
They were huge and full of meat. Try them for yourself you will not regret it. 💯
if you're a crab lover like me i suggest you try them for yourself. The price was reasonable
