This place is about quality sushi. I dont consider a California roll sushi anymore than I would consider a cheeseburger quality beef. There service is slow and time put into your roll shows. For an great deal lunch special is 13.99 you get any roll chicken salad and miso. I've been to over 100 sushi places and this is in my top 3 ... Way better than over priced show boats.
#1 Sushi in Greater Sacramento Area. I guess my post will be a little biased since my wife is one of the waitresses and have gotten the pleasure of eating there many many times. However, their food is delicious and beats all Sacramento Sushi I've ever had (yeah, it's a drive). I've had numerous bad experiences in Sacramento with Mikuni's and Taro's(paying $$ for environment and small portions), Hitome, Arigato(Bad quality for "50% off"), Kumon(Decent), Sushi Ya(Above average - Wat and El Camino - most dont know about it), and the Sushi Cafe's (Above average - my Local Favorite).
As with all sushi, it seems quite expensive, however Mama's sushi has an excellent Lunch menu. They have a wide variety of sushi, tempura, teriyaki, nigiri, gyoza, etc. My favorite roll is the 'sake Bomb'. Speaking of Sake, they have a couple different flavors of it and an assortment of Japanese beer.
Facility is medium, with 2 flat screen TV's usually on sports, a nice sushi bar to drink sake with the chef's, and ample parking. Most meals come with Japanese Salad and Miso soup.
Not much else I can say except I honestly couldn't believe that the best sushi I've had in Sacramento area.. was in Galt.
Great Sushi, Horrible Name. I'd resisted going here ever since I saw "Mama's BBQ" come and go and then renamed Mama's Sushi and Terriyaki. I had visions of the owners of the failed BBQ and ribs place trying their hands at sushi. The name and former restaurant just kept me from walking in.
But alas I finally tried it the other night. What a nice surprise! It was clean. The fish all were very fresh. The nigiri was tummy and the rolls quite good as well.
Turns out the ownership changed. The new owner quite Asian and weak on his English. But to save money he kept the name and sign. Bad idea.
This place is worth a try tho!
I moved out of the area and havent been for far to long. Great as ever and it has never disappointed. Flying tigers!
This is a hometown favorite of mine! awesome environment, good food, friendly staff and dang the roles are tasty. Might as well have a cold beer while waiting for your food,,Now I want to go right now!

Great food best teriyaki sauce I've ever had
Will be praying that Kevin the sushi chef is immortal because I never want this place to close. The portions are huge the prices are just right and the food is so good you'll never want it anywhere else.
