This restaurant is a good Thai restaurant with all the Thai staples we have come to know and love. Their decor is very interesting and inspiring. It really draws you in from the moment you enter the door. The lobby has cool figurines to view and has a very nice aroma wafting from the kitchen.
I wanted to try something different. I tried their Pad See Ew with beef and was pleasantly surprised by the combination of saltiness and sweetness that the dish presented and I added in the cabbage and carrots for an added fresh crunchiness to the dish. Very tasty and for a medium hot it was not very hot. I would say if you really like spicy then go 4 or 5 on the scale.
Then we come to the Tom Kha soup which was good but not my favorite. There is a small kitchen outside of Portland Community College near their NE PORTLAND campus that gives you a free Tom kha as an accoutrement while you read over the menu.
Lastly, the mango sticky rice was delicious. Mango was just ripe and the sauce was good and not too much added so the rice still shown through.
Overall the food was very good. I had it for take out and it took 30+ minutes to make. While this seems like a slow kitchen to me, overall it was worth it. The only reason I put service as 4 stars was the speed of the kitchen. Everything else was amazing.
Thank you cafe de Bangkok
From the exterior this would absolutely be considered a diamond in the rough. This Thai restaurant is truly a hidden gem. The owner Tom and his wife are two wonderful and amazing owners of this hideaway. It is filled with exquisite and tantalizing flavors of Thai food I’ve ever eaten, not only is the food, every bit, a perfection in sweet and spicy Thai gourmet, but it is presented in a beautiful, colorful manner as well. This particular evening, we watched the owners not only serving the meals, but taking the orders and cooking the orders, as well as keeping their establishment clean, just watching them work, and the energy they presented was amazing. Each and every dish is displayed with such detail in freshly hand-picked bouquets of tantalizing mouthwatering, aromas that leave you wanting to literally live in Thailand. Each dish whether you prefer it non-spicy or highly spiced for those who walk on the wild side will have you coming back for more. Each meal will leave your taste buds in a ethereal of delight and euphoria. The atmosphere in the restaurant was eloquent and quaint from the moment you walk in. Thank you Tom and your wife for sharing your passion of Thai food with us. I look forward to trying each item on the menu with eager anticipation thank you.
This hole in the wall place was recommended by my friends and I love them for introducing me to this restaurant. It's a family owned restaurant where the man takes care of the guests and billing and his wife is in the kitchen. They that had a hard time during Covid as they opened just a month before it struck.
There is ample parking and seating inside the restaurant even if you come in a large group.
The service is kind of slow as it's kind of understaffed but you can plan your visit ahead of time and the food is absolutely worth waiting for!
I have been here twice already and tried the veggie curry (the owner was sweet for adding in tofu for me) and the khao soo with tofu. I'm a fan on the khao soi. Even while I'm writing this review I'm salivating! The Thai tea was the usual with really attractive presentation.
It's a little far from where I live in south chandler but I don't mind the drive.
Owner is super friendly, and the food is amazing! They’ll truly give you spicy if you ask for spicy. Great place to take your family for authentic Thai food
First time trying this restaurant and it is amazing! Hands down the best Thai food I've ever had. We had the fresh rolls, Khao Soi, Panang Beef Brisket curry, and the Gang Massaman Cury. It was all delicious! My favorite is the Khao Soi. Owner is super nice and friendly too!
If you want amazing Thai food this place is it. I went with a group of people. We all ordered a different dish and shared. And every single dish was delicious! We got a combo appetizer, Pad Thai noodles, yellow curry, duck curry, Mongolian beef, and some curry noodles he recommended (I think was #52 on menu; I posted the picture) and coconut ice cream with fried banana for dessert. Can’t wait to come back another time and try other dishes.
Except for the service, everything else is amazing. The food tasted very very good. Khao soi, basil fried rice, pineapple fried rice and massaman curry were all super delicious. They had 2 servers serving like 40 people and the service was super slow. I would suggest you order beforehand and commit to a Togo or just ask them to prepare dishes before you go to the restaurant.
Well a quick night out lead to asking where do you find really good Pho 🍜
Well finally we have found our go to spot, they hit it out the park 5/5 on the pho
I asked for spicy and man did they deliver
We also ordered the fried rice… I would have to say this they missed on it a little bit 3/5
Fried wontons the wife said 5/5
All in all we will return for those rainy day desires for Pho.
And I will be recommending them as well to others
I've been looking for a Thai restaurant with noodle soup like I get in Thailand, and I found it here!! I got the guay teaw nam tok pork, and it was so flavorful and aromatic, with just the right amount of spice. I plan to go again to try the duck noodle soup, which is actually my favorite soup to get when I'm in Thailand! The fish cakes were also delicious. The staff were very polite and attentive, and the food came out quickly (we got there right after they opened on Sunday so it wasn't busy).
Amazing food and good hospitality. The servers do help and suggest what we will like the most. The ambience is good and clean.
This is a good Thai food restaurant, the flavor is very close to what I had in Thailand! (I have been to Thailand many times).
YELLOW CURRY - very tasty, not those heavy cream curry but with fresh yellow curry, it goes great with rice. I really like this dish, but they didn’t put enough chicken in it, instead they added too much big chunks of unpeeled potatoes. I think it would be better to add more chicken, and peel the potatoes.
PAD KEE MAP (drunken noodle) - this dish is really good, lots of squid and big shrimp, I like the wide rice noodles, add more flavor and better texture.
MANGO SWEET STICKY RICE - great dessert, very good quality sticky rice that just melt in your mouth.
Overall, this is a nice restaurant, big portion of food, interesting Thailand decoration, friendly service. Most important, reasonable price!
My bf and I love Cafe de Bangkok. We go often and love experimenting with their menu, but we always get a soup noodle dish. It's just like Pho, delicious and a huge serving. We've tried their curry dishes and recently had Lemongrass Chicken that was so good. We usually get spice level 3, but have had 4, too.
The owner is very nice. The staff is friendly and prompt. I highly suggest eating at Cafe de Bangkok or ordering take out.
Cafe de Bangkok is my new favorite Thai food restaurant! The food was amazing and there were quite a few lunch options. I had the Cream Cheese Wontons and Yellow Curry with chicken. Tom was awesome and explained some of the details of their food to include their efforts to maintain authenticity. I would recommend Cafe de Bangkok to anyone looking for great Thai food!
Now that i got the 5 stars out of the way, lets talk about the chicken satay.
Except for once im not having the right words—- “tender” or “insane flavour like what just happened in my mouth” dont really do it justice.
Definitely great portion sizes - got the lunch menu pad thai- it was great- but wanna come back for the curries- or- ok yeah, one heaping plate or chicken satay.
AND! Most important—- the lunch special comes with FREE thai iced tea or coffee that is imported from Thailand!
This place is an absolute treasure.
Tried so many Thai restaurants around the Valley and this one is the winner. 100% Authentic Thai Food! Presentation and quality is also 100%. Owner is super friendly and very passionate about the food quality. True hidden gem. 10/10 on all 4 dishes I ordered.
Great Thai Food! The owner puts the right ingredients in the food that makes the Thai flavors pop. It's the little things that other Thai restaurants don't care about but this place does. The food actually is 99% close to being in Bangkok. Been there at least 30 times this past year.
I love Thai food. Today, I visited an exceptional Thai eatery- Café de Bangkok. This was a surprisingly fresh, unique and authenticate restaurant. The location is on E Gilbert Rd, just south of N Houston Ave.
The restaurant is fairly simply, but with plenty of tables. The restaurant is well staffed, which is a nice change from most restaurants in the post covid era. When I arrived, they seated me immediately.
I ordered shrimp wonton soup for the appetizer. It came out and was sizzling, literally. The metal bowl with the wonton soup was centered with an oil lamp which kept the soup hot. The lamp burned out in a few minutes, keeping the soup hot while we enjoyed it. It was simple wonton, which wrapped shrimp, and the broth was enhanced with fresh bok choy. At $17 it was unique, but at this price, only reasonable for purchase in a meal on special occasions.
For the main course, I ordered three items: Jumbo Fried rice, Penang curry, and garlic & pepper pork. The jumbo fried rice was a dazzling dish of beef, pork, and shrimp slices amongst fried rice, egg, carrots, onions, cheese, peas and tomatoes. It was expensive (nearly $20), but sizzling and wonderful.
The second dish, pengang curry beef, was nicely spiced but not spectacular. I would say the flavor was flat in terms of its texturea and the beef was dry. This was my least favorite of the dishes. I would not order this again with beef. Chicken might be a better match for this curry.
The last and final dish we enjoyed was the Garlic Pepper dish. Normally served with beef, I had it made with pork, which was brilliant, juicy and spicy (i had this with 4 level spiciness). The amount of pepper, zestieness of the garlic and juiciness of the pork made this a stellar selection. At $16 this was my favorite dish.
The staff was fast, courteous, and helpful. The prices were reasonable. The presentation was surprisingly brilliant. The tastes were excellent. I will return.
Such a lovely atmosphere. The service, the workers were all wonderful. So happy to find a close Thai restaurant here in Gilbert. The decorations in the restaurant were beautiful and food presentation was pleasant. I will be coming here more for great authentic Thai food and will be telling all my friends and family about it as well. :)
Friendly, welcoming servers. Dishes can be a bit sweet. I find medium is too mild for me but a step up is too hot to eat. Overall, the flavors are very good, the components are really fresh, and portions are generous. Stands above a lot of the competition.
