Haus Murphy is the best, the service is always spot on, always go out of thier way to be sure you have what you need. The food is always excellent. We usually like to try something different and have never been disappointed. To serve with a great German beer puts them over the top!
I have been eating here for 20 plus years, excellent food and the service is always impeccable. Love this place! Eat here, you won’t be disappointed! Ask for Jersey, best server EVER!
The service was great, the beer was great, the food was better than great. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. I cant wait to get back to Phoenix to enjoy dining here again.
Next to Rosie McCaffreys, this is my other favorite watering hole, good food, cold big beers, my Dads Irish and my Moms German, best of both worlds.
Fun beer garden, excellent beer, warm, soft pretzel to go with warm sunshine ☀️. Friendly, attentive servers. Would definitely recommend!
This place is great, building is a little dated but kinda works with the old school German feel. Had a Spaten Lager which is my favorite German beer, hard to find in a pub. Ordered the huge pretzel, it was ridiculously delicious with spicy mustard, ordered the beer cheese spread thinking it was sauce, didn't really like that, but ate almost the whole pretzel. Also had the Sausage Combo with the Kilometer (extra long Smoked Spicy Hungarian Sausage) and the
Big Smoky Beef Bratwurst, both were super good. Sauerkraut and potato salad were also really good. Highly recommend, rare 5 star from me. Can't wait to go back.
I ordered the sampler platter for two and everything was delicious! The meatloaf has unique flavors, the schnitzel is crispy and flavorful, the cabbage is sweet and savory, it was all amazing! My favorite part was they only put 1 set of silverware in so I didn't feel guilty about ordering that much food just for me 😁
I've been here many times. Food never disappoints. We did the special meal for two. Everything was bomb! I'm kicking myself for not getting the chocolate cake. But I did take home a couple of the pretzels. Which they forgot to put the damn mustard in the bag. But I'm not mad.
This place we went because it was on triple D. And it was worth it. That pretzel was fluffy with the perfect amount of salt. And wow that mustard. It was soooo good we bought a jar of it. The sausages were delicious my favorite is the jalapeño and cheddar. And my husband also loved Guy’s favorite dish on the menu.
This is an October 2023 update but the old review will remain under it since it involves different items:
It's Oktoberfest time so seemed like the perfect time to sit outside under the waving flags in the alfresco eating area and hear the German music being piped in to add to the atmosphere. Unfortunately, the store across the street was blaring rap music from a large speaker that drowned out the festival music, but that's not Haus Murphy's fault so I won't drop them a star, but I hope the other store can be better neighbors in the future. There's a nice selection of imported draft beers, and Kendra the server knew details about each one, which was appreciated since the menu didn't give any interesting details--they should, esp. since some are done in traditional manner rich in history from as far back as the 1500s. I tried a Bavarian double bock: Ayinger's Celebrator which was smooth and reminded me of a dark amber. On the menu an intriguing item that I don't remember seeing before caught my attention: Paprika Schnitzel, and it was a wise choice as it was plate-licking good. The red cabbage and spaetzle were good too, although I wouldn't have objected if the spaetzle would've been finished in a little butter with a bit of browning. I also wouldn't have minded having a slice of brown bread. Friend took 1/2 of his meal home, but big surprise, his dining companion did not.
Previous review: We just wanted to grab a quick beer and head out but honestly, look at the pictures of these delicious German beers and you'll know these are not meant for swilling but savoring, especially outdoors in their little alley beer garden. Next time must stay for a meal, or at least one of those giant pretzels we saw go by....
Nothing against the other fine German restaurants in the area, but Haus Murphy's is our new favorite. The variety of Schnitzels were delicious, each with its own sauce, each with that awesome crusty exterior. Their red cabbage is excellent, and what sealed the deal was their homemade Apple Strudel. I don't care how full you feel after dinner, do yourself a favor and order the Strudel!
Some of the best German food I've ever had!
My recommendations are the pretzel appetizer (with cheese), sauerkraut, German potato salad, and meatloaf!
Overall, it's great comfort food and a reasonable price and with friendly service. I'd definitely come back here!
I've always found Gernan food starchy and somewhat heavy, but tasty nonetheless. The entertainer who did his Elvis impersonation was excellent, and the servers were spot on. A good time was had by all!! 👍
Haus Murphy has been on my bucket list for years. And let me tell you, the food did not disappoint! The food was amazing, and the portions were generous. The service, on the other hand, left more to be desired. When we arrived, there was no one on the hostess stand. We waited 10 min for anyone to show up and show us to our table. Trying to get a drink refill was near impossible. Our waiter was nowhere to be seen. When we did get to see our waiter, he was friendly and helpful explaining the menu to us. All in all, it was a pleasant experience.
This place was awesome!! Our original braut entree was the perfect portions to share. The sauerkraut was amazing and the side of red cabbage tied everything together! The beer cheese spread with the pretzel was “…some of the best I’ve ever had” — highly recommend! Passing through and if back again, we’d be back for sure to try other dishes. Enjoy!
Very lovely atmosphere, there was an older gentleman that was playing the accordion, I think, the same tune from European vacation, when the Grizwalds visited the Oktoberfest in Germany and inadvertently had the entire village chasing after him and his family. Lol. I've never had Spaetzle before but seen it many times at Cost plus-World market when I stocked the shelves. It had a hearty creamy alfredo with currly noodles and crumbly chese type texture, if you can imagine but very wonderful! Great atmosphere and I would have liked to have tried the Strudel butI was quite full. Portions are great for the price and very delectable. I recommend at least stopping by to try it out. My company had the Snitzel which was good as well. Overall a great change of cuisine( pallet) if your tired of the same old, pizza, burgers, chinese, wings, sushi, tacos and chicken. I'll definitely be going back again. The waitress was Johnny on the spot and the service was excellent!
This brought back so many memories of eating at the local Gast Haus when we lived in Germany. The food was excellent, and really enjoyed the accordion music. Had lots of laughs reminiscing with the kids of our German adventures, a couple of good German beers helped. Will definitely be coming back. Between the 10 of us we had just about everything on the menu, nothing disappointed.
We come here a couple of times per year. Never disappoints. The service is great. The food is great, It feels like an authentic beer house. I ordered the Eisbein this time and it reminded of the time I had it at the Haufbrau in Munich
The food was good. We got the pretzel, schnitzel sample plate, and the pick 2 sausage plate. All were delicious. They have some of the best red cabbage and sauerkraut I have had. The apple strudle was lacking big time. It didn't seem fresh. The atmosphere was lacking as well but the service was great!
I love the homey feel this place has. I went with a party of four & we split two of the entrees & two of the appetizers. There was plenty of food to go around. The chicken parmesan was super juicy & good. The appetizers were also very delicious. I will definitely be back to enjoy more food!
This place was beyond great. My wife and I did outdoor dining and loved the atmosphere. German music playing along with the brick alley made setting amazing. The pretzels and would highly recommend along with the sampler platter. Wide selection of beers and was told that all of their spices are imported. And service was perfect. Even though they were busy I never got an empty glass. I’ll be returning their shortly.
The food here is excellent. The environment fun. They get really busy on the weekends and that makes the service a little slow but it has never been anything but friendly. Just plan to spend a little time if you are there on the weekend. The sauerkraut chocolate cake is phenomenal. This is my go-to place for German food.
