The previous restaurant was considered one of the better Indian restaurants in the West Valley and has been sorely missed. However, there is a new sheriff in town! As it stands this restaurant is easily the best in the Westside. Eating on a banana leaf is simply better than a plate and likely more sustainable. Today my stomach was satisfied and my future cuisine options look bright again. Try all 4 of the curries and keep going. You'll get your $15 worth.
One of the best Indian restaurant in the town. Non vegeterian food is too yummy and delicious. But two days back, we ordered vegetable biriyani and it was not so good. Their thalapakattu chicken and mutton biriyani is too yummy. On weekdays, they serve food on banana leaf. Entire restaurant is neat and clean. Washrooms are also pretty neat. Friendly staff and good service. No reservation needed.
Tasty food. The buffet menu has many items. Non vegetarian items are really good and the varieties will satisfy a good eater. You can improve their vegetarian options add some more vegetarian dishes. Most of all I loved the desserts and sweet lassi 💓. Felt the buffet is little bit expensive .
My husband and I went to Vai Gai lunch buffet for the first time on a Tuesday (Dec31) around noon. At first, we were a bit hesitated to go because of the mixed reviews about bad service. But, we were so glad we decided to go. It wasn't too crowded when we got there, but the restaurant was fully seated soon after. Most of the customers were Indian families (so I assume their food must be quite authentic). They were serving 4 types of rice dishes and so many main dishes (close to 20 items). Everything tasted AMAZING and they went all out with the ingredients! They didn't hold back on the amount of meats at all (I was surprised because that wasn't the case at other buffets). I have been to a few other Indian buffets but this place beats them all. And to clear other bad reviews about their service, I didn't find any problem about it. They had a water jug on the table and there was a guy who cleaned the table every time we finished our plates. I have nothing to complain about this place and would recommend it to other people to try.
By far the best Indian food in Arizona.
Even though the quantity in the lunch buffet is unlimited, the quality is very high.
The parottas are a treat, and the taste of everything on the plate is very authentic.
The staff is super friendly and make sure that no one leaves without eating to their maximum capacity.
Too bad the rating scale is limited to 5 stars. It deserves 10 in my opinion!

Food is served on banana leaf here on weekends. Amazing veg food. They will serve you at your table. Unlimited food same as any buffet.
Amazing and awesome food. Mouth water and flavorful. Very authentic Tamil Nadu style /South Indian food
Well it is a new experience for people in US for me it reminded me of home.
Location
The location of the hotel for Phoenicians is at North west side of the town at Glendale. Also it is off the major highways and ring roads of I10, 17, 101.
However the distance didn’t deter the crowds from SE of Phoenicians. 30% of the crowd were from SE Phoenix driving a good 35+ miles to enjoy the mouth watering food.
The hotel is also new and there is not a big sign board but a sign on the Glass. So in case they have fitted the sign board look for the Vaigai sign on glass door.
Seating
You can go in and take a seat for the buffet and don’t wait to be seated unless you are a big party.
Reception
You will be welcomed by the awesome stewards and they will make you home right away.
Food
I went for buffet. So cannot say on ala crate.
Me and my wife went and I am a vegetarian and my wife is a non vegetarian but does not eat chicken.
***** Five star for the food. The vegetarian food was so homely. The non veg food was good.
Tea and Butter milk can be picked up as many fillings as you want. So please pick it up and wait for the food to be served
Water is on table and self served.
They serve the plate and traditional banana leaf. Authentic. Wowza. Nostalgic memories of food being served like mom serves or served in our functions or in friends place. Bye bye of a buffet. Felt refreshed.
Make sure you clean the leaf since it may have some dust.
They serve a cup of yogurt, Raita and appalam.
Biriyani was the first serving and sure it is like home made. If anyone expects a paradise style Biriyani well you will be disappointed. This is more home made and you can eat every day and will not affect your stomach.
So setting the expectations.
We also got a starter onion pakora which was awesome.
The Sambar, Kootu, more kulambu were all like how mom makes at home. Nothing fancy but again the taste will be good and you can eat everyday.
The vegetables were simple Cabbage poriyal and Beetroot poriyal.
unlimited omlettes kept coming and coming.
The standouts were Kumbakonam style vatha kulambhu and the lady’s finger (Vendakkai) poriyal. Phenomenal.
Wrapped with rasam and a payassam. Again payassam is more home made and with jaggery. Less ghee.
All in all enjoyed the home food like serving, tastes and the smiley stewards.
This is a definite must for every Phoenician and traveler to visit.
Couple of things for Vaigai to consider.
Since they serve the food and people sit not like in a single thread the serving becomes a hassle. They can consider first servings in katooris and subsequent food served.
Thanks for the authentic food and the way how it is served in India making it feel the recipient honored.
3 kudos for the entire team. Always smiling.
Vaigai has replaced a prior Indian dining establishment at this same location a year or so ago. The current proprietors have re-invented the location and it is not the same place as before. The food is simply amazing, the service is great - wish them the best of luck and success.
The food is amazing. People is so amazing. We cannot complaint if we miss something given. If we ask they will provide as they are taking care of everyone they might miss. This looks like a marriage hall care. That much hospitality. Really worth. I did tried in weekend.
We ordered some takeout from here yesterday, and were blown away!! The food is awesome in every respect. Taste, Presentation ( they put it on banana leaves like in some nice restaurants back in India) and Quantity ( the onion uttapa was huge), were fabulous. Hopefully this is their regular service and not "improved" service for Onam :). We will be regular customers for a long time.
The food here is so delicious! We have eaten at many different Indian restaurants from the East Valley to the West Valley and have had some favorites, but tonight we found the ONE! The food, rich and flavorful, like a symphony made for your taste buds was amazing. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating, answering any questions we had about the menu. We will definitely be back. If you want to try authentic delicious Indian food, this is the place to go. You won’t be disappointed.
Wow ! is the first thing comes to my mind. First time had food at this restaurant today and the south Indian food was authentic and very tasty and yummy. Lovely food. Now this is the only South Indian restaurant in whole of Arizona I can say that much. I will definitely recommend this restaurant who wants to try close to authentic south Indian food. Very friendly staff and the restaurant is clean. Fantastic job by the ladies who run this restaurant. The food will be very spicy for some people. But I really liked the food. Certain days they serve food on banana leaf which is very nice. Hope they keep up the same food taste and service going forward.
Wonderful dining experience! Delightful staff free with information and recommendations right on point. Surpassed only by the quality and taste of the menu items. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Wonderful evening and reasonable pricing. I recommend this highly to anyone that has been searching for that Indian flavor palette to be satisfied. West valley residents consider yourselves lucky to have this so close. Central and eat valley folks, take the drive it is well worth it!
Another recommendation from my friends who are native to India. Must say , they know all of the good spots and I'm loving this. We came for a work lunch and there is a buffet. I'm not much of a buffet person, unless I'm in Vegas, but I made an exception and was NOT disappointed. So many options and everything was tasty. There were a few chutneys that were on the bland side but the actual entree portions were great and hot! And the cost, 11.99! I was full the rest of the day.
This restaurant lost a star only because my entree was 5/10. My naan and husbands lamb curry was better than my paneer Masala. It wasn’t as thick as I was hoping compared to other restaurants I’ve been too and was too sweet tasting even with the paneer removed. However I prefer this restaurant more over India Garden
This restaurant succeeds on so many levels. We were new to the Indian cuisine scene the first time we came in, and frankly, overwhelmed by just how vast the menu was. The lady who helped us was absolutely precious, and pointed us towards what are now some of our favorite dishes on the planet.
The butter chicken is ridiculously good, but the Chicken Kadai will blow your mind. It's got some heat to it, but nothing overwhelming. Wrap it all up with garlic nan, and the heavens will open. To anyone who hasn't had Indian food before, the flavors are different than any other category of food. There's nothing I can even compare it to. It is incredible, and I can't imagine anyone doing it better than Vaigai.
As delicious and high-quality as the food is, it pales in comparison to the quality of the staff here. They are some of the most genuinely sweet people you could hope to meet. I am used to going in to a high-caliber restaurant and receiving good service, but these folks take it a step farther - they are sincerely caring. From their attentiveness to our needs, to the affection they lavish on our kids, we honestly felt like family from our first visit.
What began as a venture outside of our comfort zone has turned in to a habit that I don't see us kicking any time soon. And with how well Vaigai treats us, and how satisfied we are every time we leave, I can't imagine even trying to get our fix somewhere else.
Reception is good & we were seated comfortably. Service is also nice. We came here early on one Sunday & noticed so many customers coming between 1-1:30pm. So it is fair to say, on weekends, more wait times.
We liked the food but don't expect specialities here. It is more like home-made which wont upset you. We enjoyed the lunch & Thumbs Up to the team for the idea.
One thing they can consider & improve is, if they can pass-on the paper printed Menu of the day to the customers, it will be easy & customers can try different items. Since we didn't know the Menu, we didn't try them, including desert.
Already suggested this place to so many of my friends! Good luck & keep cooking good!
The weekend lunch was delicious!! My favorite is Thalapakattu Birayani.. Must try food in the Valley!!!!
