I visit cape Ann each year with my fiancé and Franklins is the absolute best. The mussels are incredible, they're a must.
Excellent food, service, atmosphere, and they're open late even in the spring! Expensive, yes, but so worth it!
Best of Gloucester. Always very good food and service and ambiance. No televisions, which is so refreshing these days.
I'm a local and a regular here. You'll get consistently good food and drinks. The menu is not extensive and changes slightly each 5 or 6 months, but there is generally something to please all tastes. And their fries are, hands down, the best anywhere! They are perfectly done shoestring and you'll have a generous helping that can easily be shared (because your dinner companion WILL want to try them). The wine list is not extensive but it suits. There is an upstairs dining room and bar, which may not be evident. The ambiance is different but both are warm and set e well for a romantic dinner (though I would tilt toward upstairs -- open on weekends -- for being a little more romantic). If Matt is tending bar upstairs, you can't go wong (and he's the real deal budding artist)! Have fun!
Amazing experience. My fiance and I came here all three nights of our trip to Gloucester -- once just for drinks and twice for dinner. Our last night in town, the night after we got engaged, the bartender celebrated with us and the chef came out to speak to us, and they really made us feel special.
The ambiance is really great, with a low-lit dining room, nice decor, and a beautiful bar. The people are incredibly nice. And the chef is really talented; the food is DELICIOUS. We loved the tuna steak and the sirloin. Drinks are fun and tasty too. Really highly recommended.
What a great place. Everything was delicious. Fresh oysters , grilled octopus tuna , pork chop and the best key lime pie we have ever had. Service was excellent as well. We will def be back next time in Gloucester.
The Franklin exceeded our expectations!
We were in Cape Ann to visit the Edward Hopper Exhibit at the Cape Ann Museum (exhibit now closed). We Googled nearby restaurants for a quick bite before driving to Cambridge for an Early Music Festival concert.
The Franklin came up with very good reviews and it was, yes, right outside our window where we had parked!
It was an easy decision to go in. Although the restaurant was booked up, we got a couple of seats at the bar in the main room which shares the same house menu. We were seated next to a kind local couple who helped us with menu choices.
The food was very good. We ordered the two pastas from the menu to split and a side of cooked spinach (no garlic because of the concert!). The regular-menu Ravioli was good; the edges were thicker and more aldente than I liked (my husband liked it). The Daily Pasta was close to perfect. Fettuccine with Chicken, Mushroom and Alfredo Sauce. The Spinach was as ordered and it was a huge amount. We each ordered a glass of wine.
We will definitely return if ever again in Gloucester, MA. We might even plan to return...
This is one of our tried and true favorites. The service is friendly and helpful. Grace, who is often our waitress is truly fantastic! The food is creative but not overdone. We love the cod, the catfish picata, arugula salad, the shrimp tacos and the key lime tart and warm chocolate cake with ice cream are a delicious way to end a great meal. The drinks are well made too. The room is cozy and often hopping but quiets down before 9:00.
The restaurant made our weekend!! Staff, food and drinks were amazing…. Coming back to try the Hanger Steak!!
Great experience. Chicken piccata special was delicious, homemade pasta. Great service, can’t wait to go back there soon.
My husband and I used to go to the Franklin for a late night dinner after we left work (before kids). We went tonight and I am happy to report, we had the sole and short rib and it was delicious. The bartender paid just enough attention to us to feel like we were on a date but not alone. The place was CLEAN and the staff was HAPPY. The food is always amazing. Good ole faithful for us.
We had dinner here last night and the whole experience was wonderful! The staff were so incredibly nice and friendly. The food was delicious. I had the burger and my boyfriend had the tuna. Both were perfect and the wine selection was excellent. I also want to point out how clean the bathroom was which says a lot about how the place is run. This is a women-run business and it shows. Would definitely recommend.
Cannot wait to return. The food was simple but so heavenly. Everything was cooked to perfection and the ingredients were beautiful.
Very quaint and wonderful place. Great food, and the staff are wonderful. Small, so I suggest reservations. Worth going to.
We had a great time. There is a great vibe there. The staff was awesome. The bartender was awesome. The food awesome. Everything was awesome.
I usually don't use awesome that much in reviews, but it was a great night. We also made new friends there.
We will be back.
Fabulous dining experience. The meal was incredible. So delicious.
We had our rehearsal dinner at Franklin Cape Ann. The food was absolutely incredible. The upstairs room is gorgeous. The service was a 10/10 and Maria was amazing to work with. She made the night so great and worry free. I can't wait to go back and enjoy the yummy food again!
3 friends sharing 4 different appetizers. It was excellent. Cocktails were excellent also.
Fantastic food, ambiance and service! We recently attended a rehearsal dinner for my daughter hosted by the grooms family who are from out of state and did not know where to go in Gloucester. I gave them a list of possible options with a strong recommendation for the Franklin.
Maria and her staff did a fantastic job! The food was excellent along with the service. We used the upstairs room which provides a big space with plenty of privacy and easy access to amenities.
We highly recommend the Franklin for any events or just a great night out.
Food was great and server was very nice. Tomato soup was very good, burger was on point and popcorn shrimp was also good.
We sat upstairs in the dining ro, lovely cocktails and delicious specials. I had the sea bass special and my husband had the tuna special. Both were over $30 meals, but it was nice to get out and support local businesses. Our waitress was delightful. Overall a great experience.
Jodi/Jody was our waitress and was taking care of the entirety of the first floor (ten tables). Even while under this pressure, (and it only being her second shift) she still gave her valued opinion on drinks, meals, ect. The BBQ wings (with a hint of truffle) were alright. It's possible I'm not a fan of truffle but the taste was a bit to strong. They're many drink options (including on tap beer) and different meals that change daily.
