We just happened upon this place and were very pleased! The whole belly clams were tender, delicious and plentiful! Will definitely visit again if we ever make it back to Gloucester, Ma.

The fried clams were delicious and fresh. The portions were more than ample and the price was significantly less than other restaurants in the area, which was awesome. The haddock chowder had a lot of fish in it - I couldn't believe it. Flavor was outstanding. My family will definitely be returning.

I was visiting my parents on the east coast and we came upon Charlie's by accident while we were driving around looking for a place to eat after a day on Cape Ann. Clean place, friendly service, and the best fried seafood this New Englander turned Chicagoan has ever had. I'll be back on my next trip home!

Travellers, this place is a solid diner they serves delicious food. There are many classic New England seafood dishes here and several unexpected surprises. The diner is small but has a big menu and lots of specials. There was a wait when we arrived but we got our seats at the counter. Service is with a smile. Clam chowder is delicious and homemade. You can taste the smokiness of the bacon. Thee eggplant Parmesan was delicious and the tomato sauce tasted homemade. It was yummy. The eggplant was fried crispy and it wasn’t too cheesy. The burger was good but a bit over medium rare. The barbecue shrimp was the big taster of the day. It was really good. This was a nice solid lunch stop. Check it out. We recommend. TLDR - solid diner many choices

I consider myself a strawberry shortcake aficionado of sorts. I've tried diners all over New England, eating the different variations of this beloved dessert. In my opinion, the only way to prepare strawberry shortcake is with fresh, homemade biscuits - not with cheap sponge cake like so many places do. That being said, I am proud to say Charlie's Place knows how to do their strawberry shortcake the right way. I can confidently rank them in the top 5 for the best strawberry shortcake in all of New England. If you prefer this dessert with biscuits - as you should - then don't pass this place up. If you prefer it with sponge cake, then I suggest you try something else because you don't have the palate to appreciate the true greatness of a strawberry shortcake made with biscuits. Anyway, Charlie's Place is a Gloucester staple. Everything from the staff to the diverse menu options is second to none. You simply must stop here if you are in the area.

My husband and I stopped in around 2 pm after driving up from Mystic. We went in and it looked like all the little cafes I recall from “the last century”. It was wonderful! They had fried smelts. This is not available in Savannah. (As I said we were on a food vacation eating all the things that are not in Savannah.) At Charley’s I ordered my first clam roll (with bellies) of our trip. Quick note: native New Englanders love our shellfish. It was amazing. We noted that Charlie’s had breakfast. We had 3 breakfasts there. Offerings included seasonal items as well as standard breakfast fare. Portions were large, it all tasted great! Good place to go for clams and lobster roll. Bring the family. There’s something for everyone.

Charlie's Place in Gloucester is a good place for fried seafood. I have been there many times over the years. Today I had the fried clams, and my wife had the fried scallops from the takeout menu. A 2-minute drive away is Good Harbor Beach where we sat and ate our food. The menu has many choices for both breakfast and lunch with sandwiches and dinners. The seating area is small, especially during the pandemic. We have never been disappointed with any of our choices. Friendly, relaxed. and casual. Prices are fair and the quantity is enough.

Huge yummy portions. My husband and I could have ordered 1 Gloucester fish sandwich and shared it. Small order of onion rings could feed 3-4. Going back!!

Went for lunch and enjoyed it very much. The lobster roll and crab cake BLT were delicious with generous portions. We finished being too full for dessert!

Started going to Charlie's as a kid visiting my grandparents in the summer. I haven't been in Massachusetts in over 20 years and finally brought my own kids for a long weekend. We HAD to stop in and Charlie's and it did not disappoint.

Food was tasty, cooked just right. Service was super friendly. I had the fried haddock and it was honestly some of the best I have had in the region. I even splurged on the New England Grapenut Custard. If you have room for it you should definitely give it a try.

Usually very good. But, waitress wrote down the order incorrectly. So, it took a while. I still miss real , moist oysters and the fish chowder from a few years ago( the broth was the best I ever had. Too me, it tasted like oyster broth.
