Barbara is bringing it all together at Rudder. You enter as a stranger and feel like you are leaving friends behind at the end of your meal. Grace is key and an elegant low key vibe runs through the room. Everything is cooked to perfection. Saffron shellfish stew, melon balls, prosciutto, and mozzarella starter and bibb salad were delicious. Drinks are great. You can also spot Barbara’s art on the walls while you dine. Her talent extends beyond the kitchen. Have fun!!

I read a few of the previous reviews and agree, there may have been a few teething problems in sorting out service..there were a few very minor “tweaks” required during our visit, but absolutely nothing that would stop us from coming again. While timing of arrival of courses, drinks, etc could have been a tad better, our waiter was courteous, knowledgeable and very friendly.
However, when I read a review that criticised the lack of nearby parking, three things sprang to mind: 1) get an UBER, 2) cycle over 3) get a life.
I also really appreciate the small menu - restricting options means us diners are guaranteed the freshest and best….large menus are anathema to fresh food, IMO.
The bottom line - great food is what I came for and great food is what I got!

Went there august 22 with friends. We had a few drinks at the bar. Bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. Dinner was amazing! Pasta Congolese could not have been better, as were the gnocchi bolognese and the ravioli.

Great Fall menu, crispy duck my favorite, Nice wine list and wine by the glass selections.. Cozy spot with bartenders & waitstaff full of grace and personality! We will be back soon.

Typical pains of a new restaurant are evident here and is to be expected when a new team is trying to find their flow. I found The food quality, preparation and execution to be excellent. The drink program seems to be a work in progress so I will probably stick to the decent wine choices on my next visit. All the Barbra Lynch controversy aside, I think this will be a great seasonal fine dining option once the bugs have been worked out.

Our Meals. The service. The greetings. All were excellent! THE FOOD! OMG delish! Gloucester will and has always been a community of all walks and stumbles greeted with love and support. I am so happy to stand behind this lady. All her efforts and all of Rocky Neck. Having had a gallery here 29 years I have seen it all. LOVE LOVE LOVE the Rudder.. We had a marvelous evening! Thank you Rudder crew! Highly recommend!

We had made a reservation and were seated on the patio immediately! Hostess was very sweet. There was a small band playing so the atmosphere was amazing. Food was great! Only room for improvement was the drink special ($10 flavored margarita) wasn’t that great, and toward the end of the night it seemed like our waitress forgot about us, but definitely going to be back, we love this place!

My wife and I were getting hungry and just happened to stop in. We had a drink and asked for a table. While at the bar, we started talking to Laurie the bartender and ended up eating at the bar. The food was excellent. I had the scallops....the portion was huge and the scallops were very tender and tasty. My wife had the stuffed cod and that was also excellent. Laurie was great and we really had a good time...!

The food was amazing. We had Eggplant Napoleon that was out of this world, followed up by a stuffed sole with a buttery crabmeat stuffing that was so good, I almost cried when it was gone. The cioppino was also amazing, accompanied by a cup some of the best clam chowder we've ever had. All the fantastic food and a bartender that makes a really terrific margarita; I can't wait to go back.

The Rudder & the Studio are both on the Blue Shutters Beachside Inn list of island "musts". Rudder mussels; spectacular rib eye or anything else that suits your fancy.

We generally go to The Rudder a couple of times a year and always enjoy it. The service was great and our food was delicious. I got the steak tips and my husband had the broiled scallops. Cooked just right.
