The southern style cuisine was on point. We shared the family platter and had more food than expected. It felt like Thanksgiving dinner. Brendan our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and great service. In my opinion this place is one of the best new restaurants in town.

Beautiful interior, good service (attentive but laidback) and delicious food. Eager to return for the vegan platter. Thank you for including meatfree options that still have tons of flavor. The black-eyed peas are amazing.

Went here for the first time. The service was friendly and quick and the food was phenomenal! I got a gumbo which was authentic as anything I’ve tasted in the Midwest and my dad got catfish he couldn’t stop raving about. We also got gizzards as an appetizer and they were cooked to perfection. This is probably the best soul food you’ll find in Michigan and we’ll be back many times.

The Gumbo was spot on. The Andouille sausage, shrimp were perfect and All the veggies were crisp and delicious! The Okra was the best. We will be back to try the catfish for dinner. The service and staff were friendly and attentive.

First I want to apologize to any tables that sat near us last night, as we were the group who would take a bite and say “WOW” every 3 minutes. Vegan and Southern grits were amazing, one friend had a platter with fried chicken and sweet potatoes and Mac and cheese that was great as well, and all of the drinks were very thoughtfully created. The service was sweet as well. Can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend!

OMG! I’m a first time patron and must say I was not at all disappointed. The staff was very pleasant and thorough. There were so many good options on the menu until it took me a while to decide. I ended up getting the beef brisket and it was delicious! I’ve already decided what I’m gonna get next time. 😊. Can’t wait to go back again!

Delicious meal! Lots of vegan options, worth going just for the black eyed peas and fried tempeh alone! And the greens, and the mashed potatoes, and the hush puppies, and the sweet potatoes, and the okra..... It was all fantastic! Looking forward to our next visit!

I visit family in GR a couple times a year and have been looking forward to trying Forty Acres Soul Kitchen for quite a while. We got fried green tomatoes, the brisket breakfast plate and the fried catfish plate. We also had an order of chicken wings that were so good I forgot to get a pic lol. I'm picky about brisket and find that a lot of places don't do it right, so I was very surprised when I tasted my husband's! It was REALLY good! My catfish had just the right amount of crispy cornmeal coating on it and was perfectly done and meaty. I thought the greens had a really nice flavor, something a little extra I can't put my finger on. I usually prefer them with vinegar, but didn't even think about it while eating these. I put my sweet potatoes on top of the big piece of cornbread and drizzled the last of the jalapeno syrup from our wings on it and.....yeah....that made me do my happy food dance lol. The place was clean, the staff was friendly and the Sunday brunch was the perfect start to our day.

The vibe is off the chain! The food is amazing- Bigggg Ups to the cook. The drinks are amazing. The price is affordable and the customer service is impeccable. We are from Illinois and came for the fantasia concert. We started to go to Denny’s and THANK GOD we saw this place in Tik Tok. The food is seasoned to perfection. We will come back just to come to this place

We arrived about 25-30 minutes before close (sorry kitchen). My wife and I came for the vegan soul food. I got the vegan wrap and wife got the vegan burger. Kids got a chicken sandwich and po'boy. Also ordered friend green tomatoes and fried okra (both vegan). My wrap was excellent but it appeared to have mushrooms and I find mushrooms to be nasty. They just gross me out. I didn't realize until after I ate half the wrap. The menu did not mention mushrooms in it. My wife regretted the Beyond burger and wish she got the wrap. We loved the fried green tomatoes and okra. The sauce was great and I think (and hope) it was vegan. Tasted so good it could have fooled me. Since we arrived shortly before close they were out of the chicken for my youngest's sandwich. He was way out of his food comfort zone so he had nothing to fall back on. The kitchen ended up working some magic and made a pulled chicken sandwich for him. Much appreciated! The oldest had a po'boy and he enjoyed it. He's an easy customer, he loves to eat. Both boys got, and loved, some mac and cheese. It looked absolutely delicious. Obviously not vegan so I just watched them enjoy theirs. Actually really liked the self serve water bar. Hate waiting for servers to refill drinks. Speaking of server, our guy was awesome. Very helpful with the chicken sandwich deal too. Loved the atmosphere. This place is bumping with great selection of r&b, hop hop, rap music. Good stuff for sure! Just be ready to pay up. I think a dinner for two would be fine. Bringing the whole family was stupid expensive. It was easily the most expensive of our mini vacation meals at just over $100 (with waters). App/website is a little annoying to pay with. Had trouble because my card thought it was fraudulent at first. Not the restaurants fault. Cool place!

The food was fantastic. The gumbo was great and so were the sides. Also, order the bread pudding! You will not be disappointed. For the atmosphere and price the restraunt is largely self service, which is not what we were expecting. Also, beware that once the food is ready, it will come out hot and fresh. Others at your table will be left waiting while the subsequent meals are made.

Overall the food was good. However did not like the app that was required to place the order. Did not function well on our android. Had to impose upon one of our guests to use their phone instead. Fried catfish was excellent as well as the fried okra. The greens were a little too salty in my opinion, the gumbo I guess is a different form from what I am familiar with being from Mississippi but it tasted good. I would definitely eat there again, though, again not very fond of their app.

I recently visited Grand Rapids for a wedding and decided to try this place. When I tell you it was some of the best food I've ever had. The brisket was fall off the bone tender and the sauce they use i could drink it. The Mac n cheese was the perfect ratio of cheesy and creamy. The green beans were seasoned very nicely. The okra was fresh and light. The remoulade is the perfect addition for it. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the cornbread. It was a little dry for my taste. But the best thing about this place is they have an entire vegan menu! Please try this place!

Not only did the lady go out of her way to turn the TV on for my handicapped child, the food was absolutely amazing!!! The gumbo was so delicious, I highly recommend.

My first time eating here, my food was excellent! I enjoyed and appreciated the 90s RnB music. I tried the peach cobbler long island, it was different and I liked it. Wish we had a place like this closer to Detroit

Stopped in for a drink and appetizer. The forty soul rolls were great, and that sauce..YUM!!! The watermelon jalapeño margarita was also splendid. Will be back.

Loved the vibe. Food was pretty good and depended largely on the choice. There was a large gun drink selection and good R&B in the background. Pretty good choice if you are looking for soul food locally. Some classics might not be what you expect- didn’t care for the cornbread and Mac n cheese. But other items were tastier on the menu.

When we went, there was plenty of seating. This restaurant is counter service or online ordering, with food delivered to your table when it is ready. We had a group of 8, we ordered online, and somehow, one meal didn't stay on the ticket. We didn't know that until we asked as that individual waited patiently until we were almost done. When we asked about the missing meal, they brought the receipt to show us it wasn't there. They promptly started the item, and we ordered it and a desert. They then brought that meal, and when the desert came out, a second one, which they let us keep. The food was excellent, especially the southern shrimp and grits. Don't miss the brisket sandwich and fries, or the bread pudding! The cornbread was, unfortunately, dry, but it was tasty.

after the last time ordering their vegan mac n cheese, vegan burger and wrap, i said i wouldn’t return due to the mediocrity, and haven’t returned in a very long time. fast forward to being 7+ months pregnant and craving a vegan brunch on a sunday afternoon… to my surprise their menu had vegan biscuits n gravy and a vegan hash — potatoes, onions, vegan beef. each was $15, totaling just shy of $32 with tax. the food was tasty, my husband really enjoyed the hash. would love to see a vegan breakfast burrito on the menu, and vegan pancakes or vegan waffles. absolutely love that their to go food is not served inside plastic, thank u for that!! overall 4/5 for vegan brunch experience, although the prices seemed a smidge high — each being priced at $12.99 would seem more reasonable and draw more customers/repeat customers.

Our first time at Forty Acres and man if we had a mule and were in Michigan on a daily basis, we would be back EVERYDAY! Everything we had was a 5 star rating—Cauliflower Steak Platter (the greens and mashed potatoes were well seasoned), Soul Wings with Jalapeño Syrup, Hot Chicken Sandwich with Sweet Potatoes, Fried Green Tomatoes (Yessssss!!!), Peach Cobbler Soul Rolls, And the Strawberry Lemonade. If ever you wanted soul food with no fluff and finger lickin good, THIS is the place to come to! The chefs and waiters made our experience unforgettable. Our belly’s are pleasantly full!
