Our group of 100+ ladies from Farm Women's Symposium (held at GR March 7-9, 2018) were dropped off at GR Downtown Market for lunch on March 8 during our Bus Tour. Several of us got a sandwich at Carver's, and Jay there directed us to Field & Fire (kitty-corner from him) for dessert. We had a hard time deciding but Natalie gave us some excellent suggestions and the place smelled so GOOD with the breads and pastries. Thanks so much, Natalie!

The new Cafe on Monroe is wonderful. I had the ham and cheese cross croissant and a Coffee. It was wonderful. Great addition to the Monroe North neighborhood. Check it out!

A friend of mine told me about Field & Fire when I complained to her that I missed eating bread! (Had been gluten intolerant for the last 5 years and cut all bread out. Gluten free bread just isn't the same…) She told me about their Fermented Sourdough bread and I immediately went there to try it. It is SO good and I don't react to it at all. When breads are truly fermented like sourdough from a high quality bakery, the gluten reduces significantly. For someone just gluten intolerant (and not celiac or anything serious) this bread is wonderful! Thank you for making such high quality goods and for using all organic ingredients :)

Just stopped in to the cafe for the first time (I work just down the street) and I am so thrilled. The ham + cheese croissant and the sausage & kale soup are fantastic. Service was prompt and very friendly. I'll definitely be "forgetting" a work lunch more often, and I'm excited to try all of their other goodies & coffee.

We are obsessed with Field and Fire! We don't even like bread baked anywhere else anymore. Our family travels from all over the country to buy this bread, and we can't go one day without having some in the house. It's THAT good. Plus, I can't say enough about the friendly folks who work there. We love seeing their smiling faces every week. We just moved to the Grand Rapids area last year and Field and Fire is our FAVORITE place in town!

Every time I visit the Downtown Grand Rapids Market, I always buy bread and/or other treats from Field & Fire. Absolutely delicious bread and baked goods. I highly recommend this place. If you are in the Market, be sure to pick up goodies from this great spot!

I love their croisants and love their bread. But I don't like flies... In this photo there are 2 big flies comfortably sitting on pastry and there are about a dozen little fruit flies that are everywhere. I have seen these flies here on several occasions in August and even asked their workers why there were flies sitting on the pastry. It seems people working there are chill and relaxed about insects at their bakery. I guess the workers feel compassionate for the hungry insects... But if seriously, I hope they can fix this, I would be glad to get back one day! They need those blie light zappers killing flies. I haven't seen any!

Absurdly good croissants, and I was very impressed with how quickly the line moved. If you’re looking for a great croissant I would say it’s worth a drive.

The breads here are delicious! I haven't had a baked good I didn't like. The texture and tastes are on point. This location is inside the indoor market place.

I got a multigrain loaf of bread. It's heavy and has a nice chewy crust. The inside is soft and moist. Loved it! Wish I loved closer so I could buy bread here more often.

Excellent bread that isn't even close to being expensive. I'm seriously shocked at how cheap the bread here is, considering it's very high quality.

This is our GO-TO place for breakfast, pastries and bread! We got some of their sourdough starter for home baked bread, but nothing beats their loaves. And a Box of Happy makes us so...happy!!!

Friendly service. Order at the cafe bar and take a cozy seat while you wait for your order. They have bakery items which they offer to warwarm up for you, but also a full kitchen! Reasonably priced as far as coffee shops go. They have a parking lot they share with the other businesses on the block, but it's a little small (if full, there are plenty of meters). Food is good. Coffee is good. Seems to be used for people who come for a quick bite and a chat, but laptoppers are welcome, just be courteous and don't take up too much space.

I genuinely look forward to Field & Fire's weekend-only cinnamon rolls. So delicious! They also offer their sourdough starter for sale which helps a fellow baker out!

The pastry on my cream cheese danish was outstanding! Full of flavor, buttery, and it fell apart in my mouth (and in my lap. Seriously. This is FLAKY pastry). Usually a cream cheese pastry is generic pastry surrounding on overly sweet cream cheese center, but that was not the case with my pastry from Field and Fire. The pastry was the star of the show! The filling was sweet, but just barely! It was very unique, and I'll definitely be back. Even late in the afternoon, they still had lots of bread and other dessert options. Staff were wearing masks which I really appreciated!

The bread has a great crust. All of them do. The best part is that all of the traditional bread making techniques are followed for the traditional breads, but innovation lives in this place as well. New breads and new techniques have been used to make the breads live in the way that can only be seen since the turn of the 20th century. This is great bread. Even then, it still gets better. Bring your own container and you can get a some of the starter for use in your own recipes. I warn you now, baking of this caliber takes skill of good quality ingredients, which Field and Fire has in droves.

My wife and I are dairy intolerant and learned that they do not use any dairy. We love not only there spelt bread but there rye breads as well. Our friend said it was great tasting as well and plans to purchase some. Thank you for great tasting breads.

Their bread is the absolute best! I try not to eat lots of bread to keep the lbs off but I cannot help but grab a loaf of theirs every now and again. They also have a great pizza by the slice at the DT market.
