Best Jamaican Food I've Had!. The food looked so fresh and appetizing, that it was hard for me to choose. We ordered to go. The food presentation was beautiful - better than any I've seen. All the dishes were garnished with fresh veggies on top. It was my first time visiting, so Ionie, the friendly owner, let me sample the curry chicken, oxtails and pineapple chicken... they were all so tasty. That made my choice even harder, but finally, I decided on the oxtails. They were delicious! Altogether we ordered oxtails, curry goat, a side of jerk chicken mac & cheese and a slice of pineapple spice cake. Everything was AWESOME. We are new to the area and will definitely put this spot down as a go to. The bonus was that the place was spacious, nicely decorated and very clean... their restaurant score was 100.
Good food, pitiful customer service. Good food, best in the Snellville-Loganville area, but the service needs to be friendlier, more attentive, and less hostile. That is why I go there less frequently to be honest.
Must-try dishes
Stewed pork
oxtails
rice and peas
roti
curry
The food is amazing and the staff is friendly and professional. I don't live close but make it my business to come here whenever I have a taste for Caribbean food.
Jerk chicken mac and cheese. Oh how i miss ionies since moving back to virginia. the folks that run the restaurant were as welcoming as family and the food is excellent! i have made an attempt to re-create the mac and cheese but it was nowhere as good as theirs. i can't find the recipe anywhere so i guess they came up with it on their own. good job, you guys! your food was like a spicy party on our tongues!
Authentic and Robust Flavor!. I love Ionie's. It's the best caribbean food around. The food is very authentic (unlike those chain franchises). The curried and brown stewed chicken are great! The caribbean chicken is also great (but not available everyday). I love the steamed veggies and rice and peas. The portions are healthy. When I want a home cooked meal, Ionie's is where you'll find me.
Great Food in a Pretty Setting. This was the very first place I ate when I came to Atlanta, and what a nice introduction it was! For starters, the place is beautiful as well as relaxed. There's just a few tables (maybe six) and it's located in a strip mall, but it's decorated in rich colors and it doesn't look like they cheaped up on the dishwear or the decor.
We ordered the jerk chicken and the goat curry, and both were yummy. On top of that, they had a fruit punch that was amazing, and worth trying. They give you a nice tall glass, and it must have a blend of different tropical fruits -- it was a creamy orange color rather than some bright red kiddie drink. Service was good, prices were reasonable, what's not to like?
Ionie's Caribbean Kitchen is on the right as you head from Snellville towards Athens on 78, and it's pretty darned close actually: perhaps 3-4 minutes past the Mellow Mushroom. This was one of those nights where my wife had to work late and I was tasked w
Standing in line right now and have yet to experience any of the bad service mentioned in reviews. Yes, they are slow, but this isn’t fast food. I walked in and the line was about 5 people long and I’ve seen them already deal with belligerent customers. First guy was rude and being picky about his food for no reason. He ended up walking out while the woman was making his plate. Disrespectful. A second woman walked in with no mask, but was aware of the mask policy as she had her shirt over her nose. When called out by the cashier, she claimed “I didn’t know! I’m not coming back.” You did know because you put your shirt over your face instead of going back out to get a mask.
A regular offered to bring by a box of masks next time she was in so customers wouldn’t have to be turned away. The cashier said a box of masks was available. The regular and customer got into a disagreement about masks being offered by the store. The regular said “this is new for all of us and sometimes people forget.” This pandemic is not new. We have been in this pandemic for literally TWO years. NONE of this new. This is literally ALL routine now. People just choose to be ignorant, selfish, and dumb. And just like the cashier said, customers need to bring their own mask or they won’t be served.
Ive been craving sweet plantains for a solid 2 months now, but couldn’t get any since the server said they weren’t ripe today. I’ll be coming back to try oxtails and get my sweet plantains. The server is very hard of hearing plus can’t hear through the glass that’s up. I had to practically yell and repeat myself 2-3 times for her to hear me. Just be sure to talk slow and really, really loud so the server so you can order as quickly as possible.
In my car right now eating and the food is heavenly. I had the server help me figure out what to eat because I have never had Caribbean food before. I also cannot eat spicy foods and she recommended the brown stew chicken. It’s just the right amount of spice and its fall-off-the-bone goodness. The beef patty was flaky beautiful goodness. The jerk chicken mac and cheese is good too, but just too spicy for my liking. I actually had plans to go to another Caribbean restaurant 10 minutes away, but they were closed today (March 14th). This was such a blessing in disguise. I am definitely coming back to get the oxtail and some more plantains. The food is so good!!
The food was amazing. Tons of comments talk about the customer service and they're correct. I've been to many Caribbean places and the most authentic are like this. They value their time and aren't in a hurry.
Went 2 days in a row...that tells you how delicious this food was. Had jerk chicken and steamed cabbage the 1st day. Had the callaloo, fried dumpling and festival the 2nd day. Tasty food.. I'm already planning my next trip.
