Review Tipton's Cafe - Greeneville

Alan Elfrink
Tipton's is a classic diner and is open during street reconstruction. I sat at the counter and enjoyed watching the cook prepare food and the listening to the staff interact with locals. It's obvious there is lots of love in this small community! I ordered the cheese burger with tomato, lettuce and mayonnaise, and it was delicious! You also need to try their hash browns with onions and cheese-very tasty!!! They start with a basic frozen hash brown patty, then top it with a slice of American cheese and freshly grilled onions. Amazing!

Best from the griddle burger we've had and the conversation was even better! If you time your stop just right, you may be lucky enough to meet Granny Linda who has been a customer for over 70 years beginning with her first visit to the counter with her Papaw. Also, the owner/chef felt our burgers were taking a little too long due to some unforeseen events so she treated us to a gravy and biscuits appetizer!

Tipton's was a great find. This is a family run cafe that has been hiding in plain sight for years. The menu was short, but the food was great. Try the bacon cheeseburger, the bacon was thick and savory on a juicy paddy. Don't just go for the food though. Everyone there talked to me like I was local.

Tipton's cafe should be a city icon. The food is always fantastic and service is excellent. This time we had the pancakes. two is all you can eat! If you have a chance try the fried honeybuns.

Tipton's feels like a step back in time where everyone is friendly, friends gather to share a meal, and the food is home-cooked and delicious. The burgers are made right on the flat top grill and are fantastic. Tipton's is a bedrock business of our historic downtown.

Tipton's cafe has been serving Greeneville/Greene county since 1966. They have the best breakfast and country cooking in the state of Tennessee. They are a family owned business and treat their customers like family as well. Since the city of Greeneville has decided to tear up our history on Depot st. Tipton's will have some hard days ahead. Tipton's will still be open during the cities construction. Parking will be difficult but please let's show added support for this family business and keep this great food establishment going. They offer carry out or dine-in.

Wow what a little gem! The menu is simple and southern delicious. A whole plate of sausage gravy and biscuits were given to us as a sample when we walked in and we were biscuit-hooked. So glad we went out to find this place after seeing all the great reviews. Highly recommended.

It's a 'tight' place to eat, but you won't find a better burger any where else in G'town!

The coffee is pretty good and the service is very friendly, but that does not make up for all of Tipton's Cafe's shortfalls. And there are many.

First, it's a quaint looking shotgun shack but if you value your bodily comfort, do not try to eat here. The counter seats are so close to the counter your knees will come away bruised. I'm only 5'4" and I was uncomfortable. My 6'2" husband was in pain. They have two tables in the aisle with 2 seats each, but in watching the people sitting at them, they seemed to have to duck anytime someone walked by.

We were there for breakfast and my eggs were weirdly both overcooked and undercooked. Each egg was raw on one side and hard cooked on the other. I had asked for over medium. My bacon was the same, raw in spots and blackened in spots.

My husband had the same issue with his eggs and bacon. He also ordered hash browns, which turned out to be a McDonald's style greasy patty. Ew.

They only have soda in cans, so no free refills if you're thirsty.

I think their claim to fame is they have very late night hours, and if you're really hungry and really drunk, you may not notice the bad food and painful seating arrangements.

Hand patted hamburgers ask fir a fried egg and bacon on it too! And the pancakes are big as your head and the prices are cheap!
A real locals hideout closed from 3pm-11pm

Bring cash, they don't take cards

I was looking at an antique store nearby and the smell of bacon lured me in. Food is great and people are friendly. A stool and a counter watching the food be cooked... old school some right.

This is a must for anyone wanting a taste of Americana. Take a seat on a stool at the counter and place your order for an old time cheeseburger and enjoy eating with your neighbors!
