We visit Gulf Shores many times a year and typically visit the Diner each time. My favorite is the rueben sandwich which is stacked high with corned beef and extremely tasty. Other dishes are equally as tasty. Prices are reasonable providing good value for a meal out. Deserts are tops with the coconut cake being the tops.
The locals recommended this place, best food since we have been down here skip the flashy food chains. I had the steak shrimp and mashed potato bowl, so good all. Fresh and we'll prepared. Service was also great considering we had a party of 13 people.
My husband and I ate breakfast/lunch at The Diner yesterday. We both had the crab/shrimp bisque which was incredible. I had the Michigan Salad very very good. The balsamic dressing was a bit bland. My husband had the Ethan omelette and loved it. He couldn't finish it it was so big. Great service and reasonably priced. We definitely go again.
This was some of the yummiest food we had in gulf shores, a real hidden gem. The fried fish is so good, the crab and shrimp risotto is decadent. For all the hug priced food in the area this place is a fresh breath of air as it is more than affordable.

FORT MORGAN SUPPER CLUB dined royally at THE DINER in Gulf Shores on July 19, 2016. It is conveniently located diagonally across from Tacky Jacks in Gulf Shores, has adequate off street parking, and no steps. Since they take reservations, the hostess seated us immediately. The banquet room was quiet and accomodated about 60 people. The other half of the restaurant is mainly comfortable booths for four. We were all pleasantly surprised at the variety and affordability of the selections. Photos with individual member comments are available for all items served on FORT MORGAN SUPPER CLUB Facebook page. Our server, Vince Brown ,was most knowledgable , efficient, and eager to please. Appetizers vary daily to
assure maximum freshness. We had Ahi Tuna Shasimi with wasabi sauce, crab cakes loaded with fresh crab, not fillers, and BBQ Shrimp with skin on mashed potatoes. Any or all of these could easily be a meal unto itself. The entrees
included black and bleu burgers $9, open face prime rib roast beef sandwich $10, chopped steak with onions and gravy $9, two large fried pork chops $10, shrimp
and grits $13, fried shrimp $12, mahi steak $18, 8 ounce filet mignon $20, 14 ounce ribeye $21, and many other very affordable sandwiches, pasta and fish dishes. Since I knew that the owner, Steve Nailor, had been head chef at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, I had to have the hand cut ANGUS ribeye which was better than even I imagined....but others said the filet wins the GRAND PRIZE. He puts a homemade rub on, then cooks over an open fire grille. The sandwiches come with a bag of chips, and you can trade up to fries or onion rings for a small upcharge. The entrees include a baked potato and another side, or salad in a large COLD bowl. The dressings are homemade and wonderful. Tonight's desserts were key lime pie, coconut cake, Chocolate sin, buttermilk pie, and creme brulee. WE HAD THEM ALL. They are all homemade on site and each member had a different favorite. I loved the coconut cake. You MUST look at the photos. A mile high, and infused with coconut and juice throughout. The best I have ever had. If you are looking for the fanciest white tablecloth restaurant in town, overlooking the ocean....this is not it. If you are looking for a clean restaurant with friendly staff who want you to come back often, great food and variety at affordable prices at lunch and dinner, you have arrived. Did I mention the grill and bar are open until midnight? All sixteen of us were duly impressed, and have a new favorite in our top five. I cannot wait to see someone eat the 16 ounce Steve's Famous burger.
Excellent burgers! Great quality meat and we absolutely loved the fresh sourdough buns! Hamburger steak and veggies were good too..highly recommend this diner!
I had heard good things about this place, but frankly I wasn't expecting much, The Diner isn't exactly the name of a fancy restaurant. But let me tell ya, this place was awesome. I had an absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked ribeye with mashed potatoes and green beans. The potatoes and green beans were fantastic also. Wife had BBQ shrimp that were super tasty. A touch on the rich side, but still very good. The only downside was the chicken Alfredo. It was a touch bland, but Alfredo isn't exactly bursting with flavor, but I'd probably pass on that. Server was fantastic and prompt. Will be back!!!
The food was delicious. I had the all American burger and it was juicy and really fantastic. The waiter, Timothy, went above and beyond to make sure it was a great experience.

I went to The Diner by default, I must admit that I was very pleasantly surprised. On a Friday evening the place wasn't really busy. I like how this restaurant advertised exactly what they provide. Food made with love that you can taste, but won't break the bank. I started with the soup of the day, which was a tasty bisque. My main course I chose the hot open beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and turnip greens. The beef was so tender your fork had no issue cutting with gravy that reminded me of my Grandma's (excellent) the mashed potatoes weren't overly processed, which I prefer. Flavor with every bite. The turnip greens were cooked perfect as well. I can't wait to dine here again! Nothing flashy, but the Chefs flavors and dedication to great dishes will make this place a weekly spot.
The best Reuben sandwich on the island, been here over 25 years and finally we have a local restaurant that knows how to make a real Rueben!! Excellent service , large portions and very reasonably priced. Looking forward to my next visit which will be very soon. Thanks guys, keep up the good work.
Went there for the first time on Sunday (recommendation from friends at the church) I had the eggs benedict and the wife had the blueberry stuffed French toast. The French toast was like eating dessert. My eggs were perfectly poached. Came back in for our last supper before leaving town on Tuesday. I had the 6oz filet and my wife had crab legs. Best darn steak I have had since I moved from Chicago
I was initially apprehensive about this place because of its location & name. After my initial visit, I've been back 3x n the past week. Food is way better than average, service is fantastic, and prices can't be beat. I think they are too low for what u get. I had a filet (cooked to perfection at med-rare), asparagus (not over cooked), and mashed potatoes (flavorful seasoned). $16. Came back on Sunday for brunch. Huge omlet & hash brows. $7. I will b visiting here often and highly recommend it.
TIRED OF "RECREATIONAL" VACATION EATING?. We always enjoyed Chef Steve's preperations, when he and Ashlee were so nice to serve his specialties at the American Legion ,and so glad he is offering his great food to all by opening his own resturaunt. You will be our first stop when we return in the winter. To everyone visiting the Shores ...you will enjoy the food.

Easily a new favorite spot. Nothing on the menu over $13. Beer is priced like Cheers. Staff is friendly. A nice piece of Americana right in the middle of Gulf Shores. Awesome late night spot as well with fun games and a cozy bar on the south side of the restaurant.
Great Everything. Our office went out for a celebration lunch and meeting yesterday and we were all very impressed. The food was delicious, the prices were very reasonable and the service was great. We met the owners, great folks. I have a new favorite.
I highly recommend the Ruben Sandwich and the Lobster Bisque.

My husband and I got The breakfast of Denver Omelets and they were delicious! He ordered toast with his and it came with sliced potatoes. I ordered a biscuit, it was huge and very good, but didn't realize I would be charged 75 more cents. That wasn't a problem with me but it might be to someone else. Neither one of us finished our potatoes, they seemed like they had been overcooked by reheating. The sweet tea was good too. We had to wait 10 minutes or so to be seated. I'm not sure what the time was but it was around 10 am on a Sunday. While we were eating, more people came in, being seated after a small wait. Four people were waiting on the chairs provided for that when another couple and a single man (I don't know if more were with him) came in and were waiting when the waiter came by the front where they were standing and told them breakfast was only going to be served for about 10 more minutes and he didn't know if he could get to them. Both the couple and the man left. I don't think my rating would have been half as high had I been one of them. We will certainly try eating there again in a future visit to Gulf Shores. The diner is located in a strip mall and was very interestingly decorated. You ordered off the large chalk board on the wall.
The food was really good and our waitress was really nice. It is very small with limited seating inside though! Also, all of the menu is located on the wall, which makes it a bit awkward when you're staring in someone's direction and it looks like you are staring at them but really trying to see the menu behind their head. I ventured out and got the crab and shrimp omelet and it was very very good. Seemed to be a very busy place as well, lined up down the sidewalk by the time we left.

Amazing local diner. It's very small but has the best local feel. You seat yourself and the menu is written on the wall. We went for breakfast, and it was absolutely delicious. We had the country fried steak and the Blue Plate. The bacon was cooked well and the biscuits are massive. AND everything was reasonably priced.
Literally one of the best restaurants I've been to in the past few years.
We discovered this hidden gem on our last day in Gulf Shores. This is where the locals eat, skip the hype of all the tourist spots. Wish we knew about this place sooner! Their breakfast was amazing. The staff was friendly and they knew almost all the locals that came in, was a great vibe and a nice change of pace from all the busy spots on the beach. We ordered their shrimp & grits, peach cobbler French toast, and shrimp & crab omelet. I’m ready to go back to Gulf Shores just to order all these items again!
Visited for breakfast while on vacation. Beyond the absolute charm of The Ugly Diner, the food was delicious. It was my favorite meal while visiting Gulf Shores. Prices were reasonable and the food was even better. Definitely worth checking out! There is limited seating and high demand, so I recommend getting there early. (We visited on a Sunday, so we might have showed up with a heavier crowd.)
Hate leaving this... THIS place is FANTASTIC and now more people will know.

This was by far one of the best breakfast places I have been to. Eggs cooked to perfection, amazing potatoes, great pancakes and everything made really fast. The service was great. I will definately go back again.
