What a Fantastic experience!!! I am so glad I found this place! Leo gave is excellent service, intuitively recommending dishes that we loved and made us a special drink based on our cravings. Hats off to the chef! I am mexican and have very high standards for latin cousin. Everything we had was top notch, creative, scrumptious, interesting and the presentation simply gorgeous. The handmade tortillas are perfect! If you're in the area you MUST try this place

One of the best overall food experiences I've ever had. You must go here. If it's slow make sure to ask Mateo for a tour of the kitchen. He butchers his own meat and grows a ton of his produce. Mateo is an environmental activist and focuses sustainability while making some of the tastiest food you can find. I can't recommend this place enough.

Truly exceptional dishes from Mexico. Craft cocktails and distinct entrees shine at Mateo's! We always enjoy our time there but last week was great! Despite the wide variety on the menu, I ordered vegetarian chef's choice and it did not disappoint. I was thinking about the dish days later wanting to go back... Mateo in partnership with Preston farms/winery also makes some of the best hot sauce in Sonoma county... It's bold, hot and fresh... Though the restaurant location may be finding a new home soon, we'll be anxiously waiting for another fantastic meal by Mateo and his talented staff...

First visit to Mateo's. Delicious lunch. We shared the Empanizado de Pezcado, a breaded fish dish and Bistec Yucateco, slow-braised beef, both were excellent! Served with handmade tortillas. So lucky to live in Healdsburg with this kind of fine dining a few blocks from home.

I came for an early dinner. 1. Oysters, fresh and the vinegrette with shallots was perfect. 2. The blue potatoe tortilla with the pulled pork topped with picked onions, pureed beans very yummy. 3. The baby shrimp ceviche - nice but I expected more flavor. 4. Margarita, the house version was loaded with both flavor and punch. 5. Guocamole, a bit too thin. Not enough oomf. Sat in the patio and they moved my table closer to the heat lamp. Service attentive. Worth 20% tip! Price is up there but very worth the time spent.

Drinks are top notch but the food was ok. I would go back, but only for drinks. We went late in the afternoon and they were serving only small plates and a burger. My wife ordered tacinos which were ok, but they were cold. My burger was good but, the patty had a weird consistency, probably from the souis vi. Because of this, you could only order medium rare. I just think they should stick to a normal Burger. Dont fancy up a burger...

Excellent food drinks and service! The salmon ceviche and salmon cones were out of this world. Mateo is a great host and perfectionist who loves to satisfy his guests.

Of all the wonderful eateries in Healdsburg, this may be the very best food in town. Authentic, original and always delicious, Mateos is a true gem. It’s understated atmosphere isn’t busy or stuffy. You probably won’t have to wait for a table due to being just off the plaza, but you’ll want to stay for hours as everything that comes out of the kitchen is truly sublime. Have some tequila, try the chicken and get a kitchen tour. You will not be disappointed.

We had the Chefs five course menu with wine pairings. The staff and chef Mateo could not have been nicer or more accommodating! Chef Mateo came to our table and described how each dish is prepared and was very excited to have full creative freedom to make us anything he wanted. After dinner he gave us a personal tour of the kitchen and show us the pig he was going to roast for the next days party. Overall a wonderful experience with fabulous food. Would definitely return!!!!

The food was superb. I had an excellent and generous pork-belly appetizer, while my wife’s gazpacho was exceptional. She also loved the tender pork main dish which popped with the pickled onions, and my slow-cooked rock cod in tomato/chili, layered with black beans and with blue corn tortillas was a pleasant surprise. The tequilas, made with agave juice, were distinctively authentic, and I I thought the tab, though not cheap, was quite reasonable.

Great experience! The food is above and beyond traditional Mexican cuisine. I had the cerviche of the day which was shrimp, on crispy homemade corn tortillas! Really good. My girlfriend had the Mexican scrambled eggs, with fresh Chili's and veggies, delicious. The chef came out to talk to us and told him how much we enjoyed his cooking. Best time in Healdsburg definitely stop by Mateo's

As we shelter in place we are working our way through local restaurants for take out curbside to support them during this pandemic. I can't say enough about how friendly the staff was. The food is definitely a 5star in our minds. Portion size was very very generous, tasty, with lots of free sides. Pricing was upper mid range but well worth it, we had enough food left over for 2 more days. We honestly can't say enough about this restaurant. Will we return after the SIP order has been lifted? Absolutely. An experience you don't want to miss.

I typically don't write reviews, but I've had four margaritas and I feel I probably should. This isn't your typical Mexican restaurant it's different and absolutely fantastic. My wife had the filet mignon which was out of this world. I had, of all things the pot pie filled with beef stew, ment for two. Which I finished solo. It was better than any pot pie/french pastry I've ever had. They have a flare on the traditional Mexican dishes and then pair it with the most delicious cocktails you've ever had. Recommend

This is the real deal. Mateo is here every night trying to make the dream of real, sustainable, organic, local, food possible. He pays his staff well and is one of the most passionate people you can meet about real food. If you want a truly unique, passionate, and genuine food experience, this is the place to go. If you want eating out to be supporting the people that are fighting the good fight against climate change and unethical food consumption, this is the place to go. If you want a fantastic night out, this place offers a terrific atmosphere both inside and out. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

We had the Chefs 5 course menu with wine pairings and it was phenomenal. Chef Mateo comes out and explains his creation and where the ingredients came from. The table next also had his 5 course chef menu and he made completely different creations for them. Cant wait to come back and bring guests.

This place is not your typical Mexican restaurant. The recipes are creative, finely crafted, and heavily influenced by what's seasonally fresh and available. The chef pays great attention to flavor and texture, with an emphasis on locally sourced seafood and meat. It's fine dining, so expect something unique, but expensive and with small serving sizes.

We stumbled upon Mateo’s on thanksgiving day, just because they were open and we were passing through town, not knowing it would be the best Mexican meal of my life! Even better, only one item on the menu was off limits for my wife with multiple food allergies. Turned out to be a highlight of our one-week trip through Yosemite, San Francisco, and the redwoods.
