My favorite place to Brunch on Sunday afternoons partly because they have the endless mimosas but also because I love the food and the service. My favorite for dinner is the bone in ribeye and the white chocolate macadamia nut bread pudding for dessert. Great food. Great service. I will definitely keep coming!
Love this place. Conviently located in Soho at the Aloft Hotel. Great chicken wings, Fresh seafood, best bone-in ribeye and award winning bread pudding.
This is our 2nd time staying in the Homewood area, and we can't speak enough about how well we were treated. Not only did we receive excellent service from Nick, the barkeep, but we got delicious food. The wings are some of the best I have ever had, and they're not fried but instead grilled. A much healthier, tastier option than fried wings. Definitely worth eating here every time.
I've been wanting to check this place out for a while...I'm a big fan of traditional steakhouse cuisine, but have experienced very few here in Bham (Angelo's in PCB, you'll always be the one I compare all others to!). The wife & I ordered delivery from Michael's last night via TakeoutBham which, I must say, is a welcome addition to Bham delivery options! We ordered a bone-in ribeye steak, a lobster tail, calamari, a house & Caesar salad & the "award winning" bread pudding for dessert. Overall, we enjoyed immensely! Is there really anything better than having a full-course surf & turf dinner delivered on a cold night to the comforts of your own home?? Nope. Not in my little foodie book! The bone-in ribeye steak was great, top shelf quality, full of flavor! A definite reminder that, to a true steak lover, there are a couple of select cuts that FAR exceed the coveted filet mignon...I'm looking at you, t-bones! Our calamari appetizer was delicious. The right amount of tender without the chewiness. Fries & onion rings, very good..good batter on the rings which, let's face it, that's what it's all about! Our salads were nice & fresh. We were both impressed with the "homemade tasting" Caesar dressing (I have not confirmed that it is in fact homemade, but it's good!!!). & I don't know what award their "award winning" bread pudding has won, but it definitely won a place in my heart & on my palate!! I'm not usually a "dessert orderer", but I have this weakness for bread pudding!!!! The ONLY reason I'm giving this place 3.5/5 stars is the fact that my lobster tail was waaaaay overcooked. I mean, it's LOBSTER...it was still enjoyably edible, but cooked so long that the expected, usual,
juicy, opaque-ish, tender lobster meat was cooked to the point where it was pretty stiff, pure white all the way through & lacked ANY of the natural, moist, saltiness that, to me, is the best part about shellfish/seafood. Even the shell it was served in showed evidence of being under a broiler a bit too long. Like I said, I did NOT toss it out! We enjoyed every bite...just expect a bit more lobster cooking finesse a) for the price b) from a place with "Steak & Seafood" in their business name. I would absolutely try this place again! Looking forward to actually dining at this restaurant in the future. Seems to me like a darn good steakhouse!...& the takeout service we ordered from was very helpful & prompt! Kudos, TakeoutBham! Thanks for a great dinner, Michael's! Next time, pull that lobster tail off 3 minutes earlier!
The restaurant itself had a very open, clean, modern feel to it. The food was EXCELLENT. And our server, Lance, was fantastic! Not only was he very knowledgeable about the menu, he made our experience fun! Lance made perfect recommendations on wine, appetizers (chips w/blue cheese and steak bites), dinner (filet, rib-eye, mahi), and dessert (we tried all 3 - cheesecake, chocolate cake, bread pudding - and they were all great)! Best meal I've had in ages! And the best time too! I will be back!
Had one of the best dining experiences at michaels tonight! Lance was our waiter and he was great, the service was awesome as was the food. Can't wait to come back next week.
Wonderful!!. I loved the romantic atmosphere! the food was delicious and they had the most delicious bread basket ive ever had, especially the giant cinnamon roll hidden in there!!!
This was our first time here. The service was outstanding,,I had the Apple-bacon salad that was delectable, the lobster bisque was quite tasty as well. For my entree I had the steer butt that was nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked,my wife had the crab cakes that were very so-so,,overall a pleasant experience. As a side note it was very warm in there, not sure if the Ac Was not working properly. Will definitely try it again however
Omg!!! I misjudged the book by its cover! This place is awesome! I ordered the greek chicken,,, so fabulous!! They had jalapenos mixed in with the olives and tomatoes!!! The green beans are a must! Mixed with maple and walnuts! Mashers good too!! Time to head up north, how will i ever live without this place!!!!!???!!!!
Lobster bisque .. Apple salad.. Salmon.., steak.. Bread pudding.. ALL DELICIOUS!! Our server, Adam - top notch! We will definitely be back.
A steakhouse with a brunch like this? Surprisingly delicious!!
The steer butt is amazing and I love the lobster mac n cheese!
One of my favorite brunch spots!!!
Tim. I recently had the pleasure of going to Michael's in Homewood. I had the Bone in Filet and Chicken Piccata a few days later. Both dishes were terrific, matter of fact I wanted to high five the chef after the meal!
Best bang for the buck. I went for lunch today and it was awesome. Adam was my server and he recommended the Greek Chicken which was delicious. The service was the best and the price is not bad. I will be back soon
Always a wonderful experience. Food is fantastic as well as service and attention to detail.
Great lunch. I went for lunch today and had the ceasar salad with salmon it was great you could tell that the salmon was fresh and service was fast food was awesome
Amazing Experience. We had an amazing experience!! The food was to die for and and Richard the General Manager was the topping on the cake. He talked up his staff and was very confident in the Michaels brand. You can tell when some one has passion in there buisness. The best steak in town !!!! I will return
Great food and service. I recently went to dinner and it was incredible. The ribeye was one of best in town. Can't wait to try the Sunday brunch.
Best bar in Birmingham! The hamburger is amazing. Love the big ribeye. Bring a friend though because it is HUGE!! Ask for Bear. Had a great time. Will be back next time I'm in town.
Great lunch menu. Great lunch meat and three. Lots if bang for your buck.
Michael's. The food was good, the service was good, however the prices are not very reasonable. I ordered the wedge salad which alone was $15 and to add the sliced grilled chicken was $8; one drink was @$15.... Glad I wasn't paying! On other note The cinnamon roll was delicious!
Pleasantly surprised. I purchased a Living Social voucher for the Michael's on Galleria Drive. After reading some of the earlier reviews I was a bit apprehensive. Fortunately, we had a great experience. We started out with the crab claws and martinis; both were delicious! Two of our group had the shrimp and grits and pronounced them the best they had eaten; another gave his burger a great review and my filet was tender and delicious. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. All in all this was a great experience.
I had drinks and dinner at the bar last night, Wednesday July 11, it was perfect. Bartender was prompt, helpful, and walked me through the menu. His name was Pete. I come to Birmingham quarterly for work and always stay at the Aloft. I find myself in Michael's often, but the older lady bartender isn't pleasant unless your one of her friends or regulars. It's tough to get my needs met when she bent over the counter talking or showing her phone off. Glad to see a change and I will be back if I see this young man behind the bar.
Food is above average. I've eaten here twice. Both servers were great Marcus was the latest, and Pete the one before. Both guys made our dining experience wonderful. What the food lacks, the service of these 2 surely makes up for.
Had dinner here with my fiancee for the first recently. Fantastic experience. Our waiter, Pete, was very pleasant and knowledgable about the menu both food and wine. He recommended the calamari for an app and it was perfect. My wife and I like cabarnets and Pete perfectly described a selection that wasn't on the menu, after given a taste we ordered a bottle. I had the ribeye med rare and asparagus, my wife a queen cut filet and a loaded baked potato. Both perfect and hot. finished with a wonderful bread pudding and a great little chat with our server. We will be back, and we WILL call ahead to make sure Pete is working.
Date night. Michael's is one of our date night spots. Birmingham has a very small number of restaurants that are actually good, even though some of those priced higher have a following, they are more of a social sceen than about good food. The salads, steak and bread, are all very good. Hate it when they decide to streamline meals for the holidays, or when you get an inconsistent chef... Some ARE better than others, and sauces and soups tend to be different depending on who is cooking. But to be fair, at least the food is fresh, and they will gladly fix anything that you are dissatisfied with. Love the calm, cozy atmosphere, and contemporary vibe.
Great Experience. I received the best service and my steak was perfectly cooked. I also liked the ambiance, casual but trendy. A great place to have a drink after work as well.
Stuffed. This is a great place in Birmingham. The dim atmosphere with the skyline of the city up above is tranquil and provides a great time for all that dine there. The steaks are mouth watering delicious and the cinammon bread they give you is a slice of heaven. I like to visit the location by the Birmingham Galleria. The wait staff there is one of a kind. Go and see this outstanding restaurant and make your own memories.
The steaks melt in your mouth. The service was wonderful. The staff made sure that everything was to our liking. I will definitely visit again.
Wonderful time!. The service and the food were awesome!

Fantastic lunch prices, half price bottles of wine on Thursday nights, amazing service. Servers and managers are very knowledgeable about food and wine menus. Highly recommended!
I really liked it we recently moved to Homewood area and it's the best place we've found. The menu has something for everyone. Steaks are as good as Flemming's , Shula's or Ruths Chris with a nice but relaxed atmosphere. Matt has taken care of us twice and we will ask for him from now on, he is friendly & helpful and does everything he can to make you have the best time possible. The bread pudding is our favorite dessert and the house specialty.
It is new...but give it a chance. I have been there and the service was ok...well almost ok but it was opened for just a few days.
It's a Birmingham culinary institution. This IS your grandfather's steakhouse...with a twist of new in the right places
Lovely calamari, French onion soup, famous steer butt steak. Great location in Soho area of Homewood. We were there for the open and service and food were great!
Great steak with a few other issues.... I went to Michael's tonight, actually by accident as the restaurant next door was full, and I was really not in the mood to wait. It was my first time at Michael's since they were on the top floor of the Sheraton downtown (years ago). First, it was loud. I don't mean, "Excuse me?" loud, but "WHAT?!?!" loud. There were several large tables nearby and they were evidently partying. The piano player was nice, but was a bit distracting. We could barely hear the waiter, nor he us.
The waiter, by the way, was nice enough, but not the best I've ever had. Ordered tea, no lemon...got tea with lemon. Brought one sweet roll for 2 people, and a loaf of bread, but no bread plates. The bread was fantastic, by the way, and the sweet roll was actually probably the best I've ever eaten (although I had to fight for my half).
I ordered the Mike's Filet, cooked medium. The steak arrived perfectly cooked and had a great smoky taste because of the hardwood they use. It was probably one of the best filets I've had, and I order them everywhere. The baked potato was also great, cooked well but not mushy.
Overall, the food was fantastic, and I'll definitely go back. Maybe the waiter will be a little better next time. Heck, if he'd just brought 2 sweet rolls, I'd forget his other indiscretions.
I would recommend the place. Great food, and locally owned - not easy to find in Birmingham.
I took some clients here and had a good time. Certainly not the best steakhouse I have been to but I wouldn't hesitate to go back or recommend it. Nice atmosphere, tonight was pretty slow. The service was adequate, but not stellar. We had the artichoke crab dip appetizer with fried bowtie pasta. The fried pasta was probably the star of this dish. I think crab appeared on the name only. I had the delmonico oscar style. Nice steak, cooked to med-rare with plenty of crab and asparagus. 4 adults with 2 appetizers, drinks and steaks was a pretty reasonable $250.00.
One of the last restaurants that I went to for Birmingham Restaurant Week was Michael's Restaurant . Michael's is a well-known steakhouse in Birmingham that caters to the customer who enjoys the taste of high-quality food and impeccable customer service.
