← Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood Market – Ala Moana (Hawaii 2019): Amazing Garlic Shrimp and Seafood. Roy’s Waikiki: Classic Pacific Rim Restaurant. Posted by pennyandrusty. We’ve always thought about trying Roy’s Waikiki in the past but timings just never worked out before. Roy’s is one of the many restaurants founded by Japanese-born Roy Yamaguchi (who has a long and storied history with cuisine in Hawaii).
Had the $45 sunset menu. Great value for money. The main is really entree size however by the time you eat all 3 courses you will be full anyway! Also great kids menu, crayons for color in to keep kids occupied is great idea! My favorite was the chocolate cake that has hot sauce inside!
We dined at Roy's our first night in Honolulu. We asked for a table outside. There is some street noise, but people watching and the sea breeze make it pleasant. We had wine and enjoyed one of the price fixe menus. The appetizer was a beautifully prepared spicy raw fish. The salad was pedestrian, but adequate. The Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi-Mahi with Lobster Sauce was one of the best dishes either of us could remember! The fish was fresh and prepared perfectly. The sauce is rich, buttery and full of macadamia nuts. The final course, Roy's Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé is almost too decadent! Add a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, a great way to start vacation in Waikiki!
We arrived late on a holiday weekend evening, because we had been let down by another restaurant. We were found a table in the bar. We skipped starters and were given some complementary cheese bread....very nice.
Our garlic/mushroom filet steaks were 100%, with French fries and a small portion of vegetables. We had ordered some extra broccoli at $14. The sweets were delectable. Service was perfect.
The cost for this plus one of the cheaper bottles of Californian Red wine ($80) bought our bill to $225 plus tip.
Great dinner, surroundings and service, but top $
We had such great experience dining at Roy's Waikiki. It was really busy on a Friday night when we walked in and was advised there will be at least 30 min wait for a table. However, there was table by the kitchen which was available immediately so we were happy to take it! It turned out to be the best seats in the house, as you could watch all the actions in the kitchen preparing the scrumptious food. To start, there was complimentary edamame which was perfectly seasoned, then we had the Hawn Martini. Between the two of us, we shared the Double decker sashimi and 3 course dinner ( prawn, ribs, spring roll as entree, short ribs as main, macadamia nuts as dessert). All the food are so delicious and service is excellent! If you're at Waikiki, you must give this place a try! Highly recommended.
One of our favorite, if not the favorite, meals from vacation was at Roy's Waikiki. We made reservations for a Friday evening before we left Pittsburgh. It was a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel along the beach. Here's what we enjoyed:. This bowl of spicy edamame was waiting at our table. I didn't eat any (spicy) but SP thought they were fantastic. He ate two bowls of them.
Roy's was a delight. The sushi and crab cakes were fantastic. The short ribs were tremendous. Service was great. Nice room. Good value. Would definitely go again when in Honolulu next. D
We have many Roy's locations in California so I'm already a fan. I figured why not try a Roy's that's actually in Hawaii (hints the name: Roy's Hawaiian Fusion) so convinced a couple of co workers to dine with me here. I've always been impressed by the food and that there's a different chef partner at each location with a different menu.
As expected, all food was excellent. Not a single dish was disappointing. I ordered the tasting course which consisted of a choice of an appetizer, main course and dessert. I also ordered other appetizers and beers.
Great service and great atmosphere. Also great for big groups so if you haven't been to a Roy's, check it out!
Visit date 5/6/2014
Very nice place. We did the tasting menu, which was 3 courses for $50 or so. Everything was really nice and the service was great. Really enjoyed it!
This is a restaurant we always try to visit at least once when we are in Waikiki. There are a handful of these restaurants, each offering a little bit of a different menu. I haven't been to a single Roy's that the meal has been short of amazing. If you have a large party reservations are a good idea but the bar out front is a great place to snag a late dinner for two.
“We had selected the tasting menu it was so cheap. $40 or so. Fantastic value and amazing food. The tuna was so fresh. I hadn’t tried the main dish fish before, Shutome? It was beautiful and the sauce was yum. The dessert was a standout, warm and melt in your mouth amazingness!”
Best overall dining experience on a recent trip to Honolulu. Every aspect was very good and the food delicious. We had Roy's Beach-walk Canoe Appetizer for two, the slow braised honey mustard short ribs, steamed Monchong, and the pineapple upside down cake. The service was well timed and professional and the food hot and tasty. The only slip up was bringing our entrees out when were weren't quite finished our appetizers but I have never complained about food coming out quickly! It beats the alternative of waiting forever for something to come out. A formal dining room in appearance but you can dress more casually. A little pricier but worth the price as a spurge meal. This place will definitely feature on any future visits to Waikiki.
The best dinner I have had in Hawaii , Great Patio seating , efficient and well informed staff, great drinks and delicious food , a special mention for the fish steaks and crab cakes .
been to Hawaii five times in all and each visit included at least one visit Roy's , always for dinner .
A highly recommended , must visit place .
Enjoy
Well Prepared Food & Great Service. Roy's is priced for an upscale experience, but does not really get there. It's still a great restaurant with really good food. The decor is fashionable with stone tile floors and rattan accents. The tables are white cloth with green and purple accents. It's pleasing. The flames out front help with the atmosphere. All the servers are polite and very knowledgeable about the menu. We were a party of five that tried several menu items. The Kiawe Smoked Szechuan Baby Back Pork Ribs, Spicy Shinsato Pork Potstickers, and free Edamame were great appetizers. Everyone's main course was very good. The Shinsato Pork Sausage & Boursin Stuffed Half Chicken was my favorite entree.
If you plan to visit Roy's, reservations are a must or plan for long waits. Also, the noise level is rather high. It really is too loud for an upscale restaurant.
Extremely family friendly! Dined on patio with our 12 month old and they brought him complementary plate of celery, carrots, apple slices and two cheese quesadilla pieces. They then topped it off with bringing him a scoop of vanilla ice cream for behaving so well. Very impressed to say the least!
Best meal we had in Honolulu.loved the pre fix pairings.
Amazing food in this gem of a place. Everything we ordered was very tasty and perfectly cooked. The beef rib is a standout. Special mention to our server Gaby. She knew the menu well and catered to our every request. Somewhat expensive but worth the money.
Food OK. We liked Roy's OK but not as much as other top restaurants in Honolulu. Everything tasted fine but, with the exception of the pork belly appetizer (see photo), nothing else really stood out for me. I did not find their braised ribs to be anything special. Service was fine.
Great sushi. Finally some decent food in Waikiki. Was presently surprised as I thought this might be yet another tourist trap. The sushi was fantastic and had some nice modern twists. The service was also very good. Would recommend.
Perfect Hawaiian Asian fushion Wow!. I ordered a crisy eggplant and quinoa dish from a secret veggie menu. It was delightful- eggplant was crispy and there was a Perfect balance of sweet and sour. This is honestly the best veggie dish i have ever tasted. Friends also ordered Roy’s Style Dim Sum Canoe for Two and an egg and fish main dish and had no complaints. I also tasted the Sugarland Farms Watermelon was very fresh and delicious. Loved the idea of puffed rice and cucumber on watermelon. The spicy vegan tuna sushi was also great according to vegan friends. Perfect fushion of Hawaian-Asian cruise. Would go back again just for the eggplant dish because I've never ever tasted anything like it.
It never disappoints. Great sushi and nice local salad.
Great seafood. Crab cakes were the best we've ever had. Lava cake also good. Atmosphere outside much better than inside. Service not as good as the food or for the price point.
Good for a treat. Fun location just off the beaten path of the beachfront. Hip, upscale - including prices, but the food was delicious.
Haven for a Vegan Looking for Fine Dining. Waikiki is full of great vegan options, but if you're looking for a fine dining experience, especially one you can share with your non-vegan friends, then Roy's is a perfect choice. The set Vegan four course meal is really fun, inventive and tasty. It starts with veggie sushi rolls (they are spicy) paired with a sweeter bubbly wine, then mushrooms in a dough with a side of sweet onion slaw (photo), then you get grilled Tofu on a quinoa/nut base finished off with strawberry shortcake and coconut ice cream.
The food comes out fast and it's a lot of food. I had a hard time eating it all. The servers of course wait until your done with each before the next comes out and are very attentive and professional. The wine pairings are well chosen and compliment the food well. The atmosphere is casual and yet fine dining at the same time. Relaxed staff and customers fresh of the beach with sunburns make for a unique place. I'd recommend a reservation. We had one and it made life easy.
If I came back to Waikiki I'd absolutely set one night aside for Roy's.
Wow! I mean WOW!!. Was the 45 minute wait worth it? Oh yeah, well worth it. Had an insanely fantastic dinner last night. Our service impeccable. My Guava Ginger Cocktail was like sipping happy sunshine. I had the Jumbo Prawns with Kahlua Pig and Habanero Sauce, I ate so slowly to enjoy every bite and texture, if it would have been acceptable I would have brought the plate up to my face to lick it clean. The Chocolate Soufflé was over the top, a nice crust with a hot gooey center, heavenly. The prices are high but you get absolutely every pennies worth.
Loved it. We have Roy's in Chandler (AZ), but had to go to the original. The food was fantastic. Seafood was fresh and prepared well. Fantastic service. Dessert nothing special. I have yet to have anything bad at any Roy's.
Unbeatable. Wait staff was exceptional; food was amazing. Try the ribs appetizer - a large portion of deliciousness. Be sure to order the chocolate souffle ahead of time - well worth it! I have eaten at Roys in Naples, Orlando, and now Honolulu and I am never disappointed! Delicious, beautiful food that is worth every penny.
Roy's does fish very well. Seared on the outside, medium rare, but the sauces are what's really special. I had the beachwalk trio this time. The ahi is also very good. My husband had the jerk chicken this time. Really delicious!
Enjoyable. We stopped here at lunch and had five appetizers between us. Just enough food and it was delicious!
The ono last night was incredible. My guests filet was perfect. The goat cheese bread pudding topped it all off!! Ken led the team servicing our table. They were spot on. Another great meal from the crew at Roys!!
Roy's Lewers Street. Great location, excellent seafood, reasonably priced and outdoor tables and umbrellas.
Unbelievable food and service. We were blown away by our experience at Roy's.
We arrived for our reservation and were shown to the lounge to wait a few minutes for our table to be ready. We were still seated before our scheduled reservation time and, when we arrived at the table, the hostess noticed I was wearing white pants and brought me a white napkin rather than the standard purple. Very thoughtful!
Our server brought over spicy edamame and, after a few minutes, he noticed I was a rookie and had been eating the shell. He was extremely tactful in his instruction and told me that he had done the exact same thing his first time. Even if it was a white lie, I appreciated it.,
My wife ordered the fusion (prix fixe), which was available with or without a wine tasting. As we each had a very potent cocktail, including Roy's signature martini of vanilla stoli and malibu with a chunk of pineapple that had been steeped in vodka, we passed on the wine, though the selection was impressive.
She had an appetizer sampler of chicken spring roll, blackened ahi, and szechuan short rib. For her entree, she had the honey mustard beef short ribs that was served with thin-sliced potatoes. I had an appetizer of the chicken spring rolls and a pesto shrimp special served with big island goat cheese ravioli and roasted eggplant. Everything was superb. The goat cheese was extremely potent and not to my liking, but for those that enjoy very bold cheeses, this would have been perfect.
For desert, my wife had a chocolate souffle served with vanilla gelato, I had the pineapple upside down cake served with a rum caramel sauce, also with the gelato. Both of these require 30 minutes to prepare, so our server reminded us to review the deserts right before our dinner arrived.
We were not disappointed by either. If you visit Roy's, order one of these warm delicacies.
Our water glasses were never empty. All of the staff were quite personable and we felt taken care of, but never harassed. We are very tempted to return to Roy's before the end of our vacation.
Must eat here at least once while in Waikiki.. What is there to say other than its Roy's in Waikiki. The sauce complimenting the cuisine here is fabulous.
Great Food, Great Service!. I took my wife here the last full night we were in Honolulu a couple of weeks ago, and I gotta say, this was the classiest meal I've had in quite some time. We ordered an appetizer that apparently took a little longer to get out than usual, so without even so much as uttering a word, the waitstaff brought us out another appetizer on the house while we waited for the one we ordered. For the mains, I had the Jidoori Chicken Breast and my wife had the Mac nut crusted Mahi Mahi, which apparently has made her a convert to Mahi. I would suggest reservations though, as we arrived for our reservation to a line of people more than willing to wait an hour and a half for a table on a Friday night.
Can't go wrong here. I've never been let down by Roy. Thanks buddy!
So Good!. The service was fantastic if not the best we have ever had! The app "canoe for two" was an awesome start to the meal followed by filet minion. We had the chocolate souffle for desert and it just melted in your mouth. It all just melted in your mouth. Absolutely will be back!
Bit of an odd location but worth the drive. This is the orginal Roy's - and worth the trip - wait staff are very helpful and eager to please - food was beautifully prepared and nicely presented - prices are reasonable (for me) and menu had plenty of options for all type of tastes - I've been to other locations across the mainland and this one has what all the others don't - a beautiful view - enjoy!
Always good.. We eat at Roy's everywhere we get the chance. The food is consistently good and the chocolate souffle' is consistently to-die-for. s.
Great as always!. We had a 3 hr layover in Honolulu. Took a cab to Roy's, didn't have much time by the time we got there. The wait staff was SO accomodating to help us eat a GREAT meal and get a cab back in time. Thoroughly enjoyed our quick visit to this Roy's.
Simple Choice. There is always impeccable seafood preparation and service at Roy's which makes returning sooo easy.
Make no mistake, this team has got it together. Front of the house and back of the house are on their A game. Great food and great service make for a wonderful dining event.
Food was excellent! Service was superb. Ambiance was fantastic. Highly recommend eating here.
Great food and great service. Staff is friendly and very knowledgable.
Fantastic. Crab cake appetizer, goat cheese/macadamia nut salad and macadamia-crusted opah all excellent. Service likewise above average. Recommended.
Loved the local flare in a fine dining setting.
Different flare than your ordinary chain restauraunts. Reservations needed to eat outside. Price fixe menu with Atlantic Samon very good. The service is very slow and the booths are uncomfortable. The cocktails ate pricey. Again, would recommend price fixe menu w/o wine. If you need a drink the pricey cocktail still your nest bet.
Fantastic fusion food. Great service and equally great wine and food selection. Some of the best fine dining on Oahu.
The Best Ever!. Such a wonderful experience. We wanted to go to a nice restaurant, since it was our second to last day in Oahu. Roy's was able to take a last minute 9:30 reservation. We waited a bit outside and right away they knew we had a baby with us. They gave us crayons as we waited. When were were seated, Diva, the manager was all about making sure we were comfortable with the little one. She ordered mashed potatoes so he had food right away. Then the wait staff quickly brought him toys to play with. That helped us look through the menu. My husband and I ordered the Guava-licious. It was wonderful.....we ordered another round and by the end of the evening, we had a nice buzz. When we were sipping on our drinks, our baby wanted some. Diva was right on it. She ordered him a guava juice. The kids menu was great. My older son enjoyed the quesadillas with carrot and celery sticks. Thank you for the veggies. He also loved the shrimp sushi wraps and his dessert. Well worth the price.
Now for the adult food.....heaven! My husband ordered the pre-fixed menu with the rib option. I ordered the seafood sampler. Everything was beautifully presented and simply delicious. I felt like I was a judge eating food on that Iron Chef show. Really, it was the best meal we as a family ever had. The service, spear headed by the manager, Diva, the open environment, and food that left memories in our mouths, made for a perfect evening. Thank you Roy's. You are part of us yearning to go back to Hawaii.
Awesome. Great service and very good food. The spare rib appetizer is a must.
With most of the hotel food prices bring outragous Roys is the first stop! And the last stop.. Unriveled service food is 5 star and it's truly the best for high end good in wakiki..
Awesome Food & Service. I have to tell you the bartenders out side bar are an asset to Roy's. They cook there Opakapaka to perfection its a little higher in price but you will be happy after you taste the quality of there food. This is one of the few Roy's that is not owned by Outback Steak house and you can tell by the Service and food quality.

As a special treat I actually met with Felice at Roy’s in Waikiki on my first evening in town enjoying an amazing meal of Hawaiian style Misoyaki Glazed Butterfish served over carrots and a tasty black rice
According to Roy's, they create Asian dishes with European techniques. If you've been to Nobu, Roy's is along the same tracks.
Not sure why American's are into this whole Asian Fusion cuisine, but when it's done right, it's delicious. For a chain, this restaurant is really fantastic. Especially for seafood lovers comme-moi. I think if I took more time looking at the menu I might
After visiting Mama's Fish House in Maui three years ago, we didn't think anything could come close. Let me tell you, Roy's comes pretty close! I've never been to a restaurant where there has been such incredible attention to my dietary concerns! Our server was worried that I would be in need of medical aid if I ate something I couldn't (dairy). With that, the butter sauces came on the side and there was nary a smidgen of cheese on anything. They started us off with edamame - nom nom nom- which disappeared in a matter of seconds. Then, it was champagne paired with the ahi tuna, baby back rib and chicken spring roll appetizer, which was delicious (and this was pre-Kauai roosters, so I was still eating chicken ). Thank goodness I'm not allergic to nuts!! Hello, macadamia encrusted opah! Get in my belly! Served with simple but oh-so de
Roy's Waikiki is an amazing restaurant!
This was our first visit to Roy's Waikiki; we've been visiting Waikiki for over 30 years. Our so encouraged us to visit Roy's Waikiki with him on this trip.
Oh my, I can't even imagine a better dining experience. The restaurant is staffed with professional and friendly staff attending to our every need. The menu is robust; there is truly something for everyone. Expect to spend about 2 hours for dinner.
The service was great; our entrées were prepared and served to perfection. Our beverages were top shelf!
Do yourself a favor and give Roy's Waikiki a try; you will not be disappointed!

I’m visiting Hawaii with my family and this wasn’t a typical place we would pick to eat but definitely a great experience. The food was absolutely amazing not only in taste but presentation as well. The portions size was not skimpy at all. The service not only is friendly and attentive but also knowledgeable about the menu, you can tell they have pride in what they do. I ordered the tiger shrimp with crab ravioli and I finished the whole plate it was so flavorful and moist, not to mention the biggest shrimp I’ve ever eaten in my life and the garlic parmesan sauce is the perfect combination. Others at my table ordered the ribs and finished the whole dish as well as the sampler all were very pleased. And for those who enjoy fish the snapper comes WHOLE head and tail attached and cooked to perfection. I definitely would recommend and plan on coming back for another meal.
I will start saying that I’m not a big fan of fancy food, so you shouldn’t consider this review if you like a good “quality” meal. That being said, I’ve ordered the short rib, which was pricy but tasty…what I don’t like is that I cannot choose the sides, and as much as there was a good portion of food, the sides weren’t enough. One thing that I’ve loved was the fact that my water glass was NEVER empty, there was someone filling out every 5 minutes. One thing I didn’t liked it at all, was the bathroom, very dirty for a nice restaurant. In the other hand my husband ordered the sushi and he absolutely loved it, he said was one of the bests he ever had I’m sure if was for him he would give 5 stars…but it’s my review, so for stars for me!!!
This place was superb. The portions are generous and the unique flavors and savory combinations were so thrilling to eat that it felt like a true culinary journey. My husband and I came here two nights in a row because we loved it so much. Not only was the food spectacular, the entire staff was also warm and inviting. Special shout out to our waiter Maike, who treated us like family both nights. Thank you!
My family had a wonderful time. Definitely made our last night in Hawaii more memorable. I’m so glad I took my parents here. We did the prifix 3 course meal and the portions were perfect, we were so stuffed by the end. And the wine parings were well done. Presentations and taste were both great. Wasn’t crazy about the appetizers but the main and the wine pairings made up for it. The waiters were fantastic they were super courteous but very pleasant and friendly. Would love to come back when I get a chance to visit Hawaii again, thank you for making our night 🤙
Beautiful restaurant right at the corner of Seaside. Great place to celebrate a special occasion. They use nothing but fresh ingredients. The Butterfish was amazing along with the rest of the dishes. Service was top notch and the ambiance is second to none.
Top notch restaurant! If you want an upscale dining experience in Waikiki, this is the place for you. The amazing food is topped still by the impeccable service. We had multiple people caring for our table at all times to ensure glasses were always topped off, dirty dishes were cleared and if you left the table for any reason, you'd come back to your napkin folded on the table! Incredible, we'll be back
I've had great fish at a lot of fancy restaurants, but I've never had fish like this. The hibachi salmon and the macadamia nut crusted Hawaiian fish were absolutely unreal. Forever changed the way I think about fish as a meal.
Lots of fancy restaurants, the food scales up, but the service stays average. Not so, here. The service was every bit as incredible as the food. It was formal and yet welcoming. Highly professional, but also warm. Very impressive!
Atmosphere was upscale, but there were still plenty of muted Hawaiian shirts and tan cargo shorts.
Highly recommend going here!
A very famous restaurant with a lot of people. It said on the Internet that reservations are required, but in fact it should be possible without reservations because we decided to come to this restaurant at night. I originally wanted to sit outdoors and feel the gentle breeze blowing by, but there were too many people, so I had to go indoors. I was a little disappointed at first, but I was attracted by the open kitchen as soon as I entered, it was really cool up! The service attitude of the staff is particularly good, very enthusiastic, and will actively recommend dishes.
As soon as we sat down at the beginning, we were given free food, including vegetables, pancakes, and edamame. The edamame smells like sesame oil. I personally think it is very good, but there is no salty or sweet taste. . I only ate pancakes on the plate of vegetables, and there was something similar to cheese in it? I feel very fragrant and chewy.
We ordered a Hawaii Kai Crab Cakes as a starter, which is a crab cake with real crab meat inside, served with real ingredients, served with those sauces, and fried crispy on the outside, with a sweet and crispy taste. There is also a Kanpachi Crudo, which is sashimi and the like. My father ate it and said that the sweet and sour brought out the umami taste of the fish and removed the fishy smell of the fish itself.
The four of us ordered two main courses, one is Misoyaki Butterfish, the fish is topped with miso sauce, its salty fragrance brings out the umami of deep-sea fish, and there is no fishy smell. There is black rice below, which is very filling. There is also a Slow Braised Honey Mustard Glazed Beef Short Rib, which tastes good and the sauce is well adjusted. It has a sour taste and is very greasy, but it may be that the meat has been stewed for too long, and there is a faint smell. On the contrary, I think it was just ok, but it may also be the reason why I am too picky.
For dessert, we ordered a Pineapple Upside-Down Cake, which has a crunchy cake bottom and fire-roasted pineapple on the top, which is sweet and sour. The whole cake tastes very sweet. The vanilla ice cream next to it is really delicious Taste the aroma of vanilla, which is different from the taste bought outside. The combination of the two is really eye-catching and shocking! I wanted to try the most famous Roy's Signature Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé here, but the waiter didn't pay attention to it when I placed the order. It's a pity that I found out after asking, but the waiter also sincerely said that he didn't notice. But I also think that maybe I didn’t said it clearly at the time🥲
In general, I think it is worth a try, no matter from the environment to the service attitude to the taste, they are all first-class
Overall not bad, but definitely on the pricier side with a few hiccups in food prep.
One thing to note, depending on the dish you ordered, you had a pretty different experience. The dishes I ordered, I was really impressed by the flavours:
Appetizer: Misoyaki Butterfish (Appie version, not entree)
Entree: Cilantro Chimichurri local catch on crab risotto
The sauces in particular were super good - with very unique flavour combinations. However, I think the butterfish was a bit underdone compared to what I prefer - usually with butterfish I like it to flake apart but not be dry - what i got felt closer to sashimi which was a bit odd for the prep type. Meanwhile the local catch was a bit overdone, but not so much I was turned off by the meal - i was pretty satisfied by the flavours. Unfortunately I don’t remember what the local catch was that day.
I also ordered the Roy’s signature martini; which heads up, was way too strong for me. Plus the pineapple is literally pure vodka in pineapple form (there’s literally no pineapple taste left in it after they’ve soaked it for so long). The drink was too much for me, but the wait staff was nice enough to exchange it for an espresso martini without extra charge - so kudos for that. So overall i had a good experience.
However, my friends on the other hand who ordered the pre-fix menu were not super impressed; I tried a bite of each dish and the meals were pretty basic in flavours and in most cases a bit overcooked (short rib and the local catch fish). Similarly with the three fish sampler, the salmon was definitely overdone despite ordering it on the rarer side.
