Fine Japanese restaurant. We liked their dishes very much, especially the Sushi Omakase and the hot pot with Wagyu beef. The service is polite and professional. The food is delicious. Prices are high, but worth the experience.

TLDR: Restaurant Suntory is basically three restos in one. We did the Teppanyaki and although pricy, very tasty if you're looking for an elevated experience. Basically think grown-up Benihana without the onion volcano. This was our last meal in Waikiki and I love the idea of restaurants within a restaurant. We opted for the extended tasting menus (sans lobster) and got a US filet and a wagyu filet to compare both. While the wagyu was certainly a bit more tender and super delicious, I wouldn't say it was far beyond the flavor of the US filet. If the US filet was at an 8, the wagyu brought it to maybe a 9. Definitely get the garlic fried rice and it is a fair bit of food so come hungry. The panko shrimp was exceptionally good. Crispy, garlicky, just the right amount of bounce on the shrimp. I would definitely come here again and I'd love to try the traditional restaurant and/or the sushi bar. Service team here was top notch as well.

Decent entry level Japanese fine dining spot. At Restaurant Suntory, the space is neatly divided into two sections - one focusing on the intricacies of Kaiseiki cuisine and the other on Teppanyaki. On this occasion, luck favored us with a last-minute reservation for the latter. We decided on the Royal Course featuring an array of seafood. Our meal commenced with an artistic tray of various Japanese appetizers – sashimi, salad, and more. Although satisfying, the quality was akin to what you might find in a competent mid-tier restaurant in Japan. Prior to Teppanyaki, we were also presented with a tomato-based clam chowder. Coming from Boston, I found the umami from the tomato as a rather unique, yet odd, departure from the traditional bacon-infused chowder, almost veering into creamy tomato soup territory. The main Teppanyaki course was a trilogy of seafood dishes, beginning with panko lobster tail, followed by a combo of scallops & shrimp, and finally, a pairing of tuna & salmon. The ahi tuna was a standout, cooked flawlessly to medium-rare, while the shrimp, tender and succulent, delivered a sublime texture. As the curtain closed on the Teppanyaki stage, a bowl of garlic fried rice made its appearance. It was a touch bland, which, paradoxically, elevated the aroma of garlic and green onions. The finale was a refreshing melon pudding, its pleasing melon scent and silky texture serving as a palate cleanser to wrap everything up. Teppanyaki at Suntory may not come with the traditional smoke and mirrors one might associate with this type of cuisine, but it offers an experience that's rich in flavor, showcasing quality ingredients and delivered with professional service. A solid choice for anyone seeking an authentic, unembellished Teppanyaki experience.

Went for lunch to try out their July’s Shunsai-zen special. Made reservations on Resy and emailed them to order the special beforehand. The first set came with tuna and squid sashimi, summer vegs with tosazu jelly, and Japanese style corn soup. This set was refreshing on the pallet since it was a hot and kind of humid day. The summer vegetables with tosazu jelly was really tasty. The second set was fried shrimp with tartar sauce, salad with miso cheese dressing, and ginger pork. Really likes the miso cheese dressing. The ginger pork was decent, didn’t tasted fatty. Wished the fried shrimp was tempura style, but it was good too. The last set came with udon with a hint of curry as the soup base, and fruits almond tofu dessert. The hint of curry in the udon soup was perfect because curry can be over powering. Soup was light. Really like the almond tofu dessert! It was perfect to finishing off the sets. The staff was friendly and took the time explaining the items in each set. They also have highball drinks using Suntory whiskies. They have validation for parking, but if you’re kama`āina or military then you can go down to Royal Hawaiian customer service center and get a 3-hour validation with your receipt!

We had the teppanyaki and we chose the royal course. The sashimi, the clam chowder, everything was delicious. We paid extra for the garlic fried rice and it was worth it. The beef was excellent. They have drinks made with Japanese whiskey and gin. They have a martini made with vodka and sake! The service was great. Our reservation was at 6:30 and they didn’t start the cooking until a little bit later, but that was ok with us.

Food is great. Experience should be better. As a restaurant that proudly prompts its $148/person course HIBIKI, you can easily spend $300+ if you have a party of two. At that point, everyone should have an expectation of a fine dining experience, right? But the experience is not just not there. * Food display is good, but not great. * Restaurant interior design is good, but not great. * Service is good and very welcoming, but not excellent. * Dining ware is good, but questionable combination and quality. (Don’t like the disposable chopstick) * Dining environment is noisy (in a little annoying way, mainly because each table is too close) Once again, food is great, no complain there.

Sukiyaki here was amazing, just like the taste of restaurants in Kyoto ! The Japanese wagyu beef one was better! Sake clams was fresh and juicy ! We arrived at the restaurant at around 19:00 and I called 30 minutes earlier for a reservation! Didn’t wait to be served. We must be there again !love it!

Our one fancy dinner during our 1 week vacation stay. I have to say, it did not disappoint! Do not be fooled with the small portions, after you finish the entire course you will be left satisfied. Everything was so dainty and intricately presented, I recommend you coming here for a special occasion. As the atmosphere and the service was impeccable. We opted for the traditional Japanese dinner over the tepaniaki side of this restaurant. We ordered the toki and irodori set course to share just the two of us. Our server mentioned that it is quiet popular for couples to do that. Be prepared to sit for a while, the dinner took us 2.5 hours to complete but for a more fine dining experience, I expected it. Make a reservation and advance as they do book up very quickly. It felt like we were in Japan!

I went to the restaurant after the renovation, the decorations inside looks great. The food they serve is premium and flavorful. However, I do think the servers need some more training. For example, if the server accidentally spilled or dropped something on the table, he/she should come back and clean it instead of just leave it as it is. Also, the server did not serve water, we had to request it. In Japanese culture, as a welcoming gesture, iced water should be served even when the guests did not request for it. I went there for dinner and spent about $180 per person. At this price point, I would expect a higher level of service. Just wanted to make it clear, my friends and I still had a great time, the server was also really nice and friendly. Above are just some things that I think the restaurant can improve on.

We got the Shunsai Zen monthly special, and as usual all the different dishes were delicious and well presented. The highlights for me were the tempura, duck and soba. We went for my girlfriend's birthday and they gave her a free tempura ice cream 👍🏼

Good experience of traditional Japanese cuisine. I had the Tori set which included a variety of seafoods. My favorites are the pot and the green tea pudding. Sashimi is very fresh. There are too much food. I couldn’t finish the box sushi which came as the second last course before dessert.

Quiet authentic japanese dining experience. I ordered chefs selection of sashimi, sushi and a bowl of clam miso soup. The sashimi was ultra fresh and just the right quantity for 2 of us. However, i must admit my wife ate very little and I finished 90% of both sushi and sashimi. No tummy aches or GI issues from this meal. I mention this because sometimes if i consume too much raw fish, i regret it 2 to 3 hrs later. I highly reccomend this place!

Went for lunch before the 2nd lockdown order in August twice in a week. The first time we ordered monthly special. Each dish was freshly prepared and tasted amazingly good. 5 star there. 2nd time was Teppanyaki. No performance involved like others, but all was good. I give 4 because of the garlic rice. It looked good while being cooked but it was pretty bland. It didn’t have any flavor of garlic or the egg maybe because of overpowering amount of salt. I am garlic rice critique... So I’d give 4.5. Good place to be to take care of Japanese food fix when the lockdown order is lifted.
