A welcome reprieve from hours of shopping. As with all Hawaiian restaurants at busy times you need to book well in advance. This was our kids first teppanyaki and they loved the theatre of it all. Steak dishes perfectly cooked. Lobster tail also worth a look. Thoroughly enjoyable family dinner.
Benihana style restaurant where they prepare the food right in front of you. Cooks were very friendly and entertaining. They were also very accommodating to my food allergies: gluten free, dairy free. If you are gluten free, you may want to bring your own gluten free soy sauce (tamarin or liquid aminos). The food was a little bland without the soy sauce.
Decent Teppanyaki!. To be fair, the only other time I have tried a restaurant like this was in a place you wouldn't necessarily go for teppanyaki, so I really can't compare this to other experiences, however when someone who lives in Tokyo sitting at the same grill as you says it's a good sign to see so many Japanese tourists in the establishment, I take that into consideration. The cook we had was quick with the tricks, made it entertaining, and not to mention, cooked my ribeye spot on. Places like this are a special occasion meal, but, I wouldn't hesitate going back there for another special occasion!
Never dissapointed here. But I guess it's depending on the chef if you have a fun time... I always get good funny kind!! Lucky me...
Awesome Food & Service. Very impress with the food and service. I counted 7 B-Day songs and the manager sang with the team on every table. Great price, no wonder there was a line out the door. MAHALO
Totally loved this place. Authentic food in generous portions, the hibachi performance was entertaining. Usually has a waitlist everyday so reservation would be recommended. Got the free portrait photo too😍.
This is the gold standard for teppan style cooking. Service is amazing. Chefs are always fun and extremely talented. The best quality of meats/seafood and veggies, but their sauce is really unmatched. Fried rice upgrade is a must!
The most value-price balanced restaurant in Hawaii. Spent $300 + 15% tips for two but compared to other costly restaurants, this was the most valuable and satisfying restaurant in the island (personal experience)
We had a wonderful time celebrating my mom’s birthday here as a family! Excellent service. Delicious food. This is our go to spot for celebrations. You won’t be disappointed.
Tanaka of Tokyo West was really convenient in the Ala Moana Shopping Center. My daughter and I celebrated her good grades in school and I did not expect the staff to sing her a song with a cake I ordered. The experience was something we would remember forever! Food was awesome as always and Chef Anderson was really funny in his show. There was so much food that we could not finish eating everything! We cannot wait to come back again soon!
The place was alright, it was definitely a tight fit to where the tables were a lot closer to each other, the atmosphere was good and the vibes in there were also good. Other than that I was also ok with my experience on the food. It could’ve been better but it was ok.
I have been going to Tanaka of Tokyo for almost two decades. We just love the consistent service, the staff and the food is so good! I just had the waygu steak and it just melts in your mouth. They have something for everyone. My son has seafood allergies and the chef made sure he cooked the sea food last. They want to make sure you have the best experience and they will cater to your family wants and needs. Tanaka of Tokyo is our go to restaurant for lunch, dinner and all our family celebrations. Tanaka of Tokyo is locally owned and operated by the Tanaka family. You can enjoy the atmosphere, service and food while supporting local. Another amazing birthday celebration at Tanaka of Tokyo! I dine here every time we travel to Oahu. The food and service never disappoints. This is the second time we had Seth as a cook, and the food was seasoned to perfection as usual. Daniel did not let our drinks get to the end. He did a superb job. Thank you all and we will see again soon.
The place is easy to find: the top floor of the Ala Moana. A staff member first took the order and noted any dietary restrictions, then the chef--who held a talk show while cooking--came. They served juicy vegetables such as mushrooms, bean sprouts, and onion, and of course, they cooked the entrée well and as requested. After the meal was finished, the manager came and asked for feedback. To sum up, great food, great virgin cocktails, excellent service!
We always come here for special occasions and were here last week to celebrate back to school. We had Lisa as our server and every time we have her she is fantastic.
This time we had Head Chef Joe. He was the best chef that we've had in all of our visits.
When we come we tend to always get the Daimyo- Petite Filet, Scallops and Lobster never disappoint.
The show was great!!! Food was cooked perfect and delicious. Service was superb. Our experiences here have always been consistent and very high quality.

They never disappoint us! They were able to accommodate my two daughters and I with very little notice today. Not to mention their chefs balance the art of presentation with taste so well, all the while making my daughters and I feel like we were VIP. Big mahalos!
There is no question that guest service is at the forefront of every employees mind when dining at this particular Tanaka of Tokyo. From the time we entered the restaurant we were greeted with exceptional customary Japanese hospitality. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS, packed with flavor, and prepared with such pride that it elevated the entire dining experience. My husband, daughter, and I enjoyed the seafood combination, which included a bountiful lobster tail, calamari, salmon, and scallops. Every single morsel was delectable. My son enjoyed the Utage, which included the deep sea gourmet lobster and the center-cut filet mignon. All entrees included tossed green salad, grilled shrimp, Teppanyaki vegetables, steamed or fried rice, pickled vegetables, miso soup, Japanese green tea and dessert. An abundance of exquisite nourishment topped with 5 star customer service makes this dining experience easily 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great experience and food! The chef was hilarious and knows how to put on a show. The service by everyone was great! They were friendly and welcoming from arrival all the way until we left. I enjoyed a steak and chicken plate and it was made to perfection.
From the moment we walked in it was awesome!! Luke our waiter and Rory our chef!! They were terrific! We sat with the most gracious and loving family!
Our 46 anniversary was complete!! And the food was EXCELLENT! As always!

They are simply the best Teppanyaki styled restaurant in Honolulu. We have dined there for over 25 years and with 3 generations of my family. It is a must place to go to and the ambience, food, quality, service is A+++
